Just ordered a Ford F-150 Platinum
Just placed the order for this blacked out F-150. Got it fully loaded, and with the v8 engine.

I thought I was going to get a Raptor, but wasn't willing to spend over sticker for a Raptor. And my dealer said it'd be 2024 before they got another allocation so decided this was the better option.

Hopefully it doesn't take 6 months to get it. Will update with pics once it comes in.

After 50 rentals, I've developed a specific opinion
This year I have been in a ton of rentals and have developed an opinion on something I never really have had any thoughts to before. Dark headliner > light headliner. I'll never buy another car with a light headliner, it just looks so poverty to me now. Dark headliner feels much classier and seems to better define a nice cabin as your enclosed space.

M5C, E63S, CTS-V3 or keep what I have
I have the manual ATS-V sedan in sig which I love. Great car. Its got 60k miles on it, is plenty quick (numbers in sig, more mods than listed). I just got an offer for $41k for it. I'd be looking to get into something automatic, larger (kid on the way and back seat will be fine in the ATS-V for a car seat but any one over 4'5" going to have issues back there), ideally all wheel drive, and of course some more comfort & tech. It would also have the potential to be on par with where my V is currently (low 6's 60-130 id estimate).

My 3 used options are:
1. F90 M5C (quick w/ stage 2, motor trans tune, e mix, but thats about it before you in bent rod territory). I test drove a stock car, was underwhelmed somewhat.
2. E63S AMG (would try to get a wagon, IK nothing about the strength of AMG motors). Going to a dealership tomorrow that has E63 sedan and wagon, and a stock CTS-V tomorrow.
3. CTS-V3 (would have to have a cam and mods to even consider)

Im heavily leaning on keeping the V, because its such a special car but my list of reasons why it should go are:
1. Kind of high miles (not really for age, but its really at the top of the engines limits for power and not sure how it will hold up. I have a whole setup of upgraded rod and main bearings plus other hardware to strengthen the bottom end. Will go in if I keep the car.
2. My wife cant drive it, and refuses to learn manual. Would be nice to have a car we could both drive that isnt a snorefest (she drives a crosstrek)
3. Back seat is just terrible

Just looking for some outside input.

Do you consider gas mileage?
I never used to now it's a fairly substantial consideration when purchasing my daily driven vehicles. Not sure if gas prices are getting to me or I am just getting old, probably both.

Lexus Defender/Gwagon incoming.
The verticality of the A-Pillar and the flared fender tells the whole story. Can't fuking wait. Have a 2023 GX but definitely gonna trade in for this. I'll give up the underpowered V8 for the TTV6 just to get this new aesthetic.

Is buying used luxury cars from CarMax with Maxcare still a good move?
I was trying to be responsible and buy a new hybrid Camry, but the CarMax near me has a 2018 Audi S6 for sale. I'm absolutely not buying a new one, and these still have the twin turbo V8. I briefly worked at CarMax, and their Maxcare was a great value for higher end vehicles. Has anyone else changed the game or come out with a similar extended warranty?

How does auto misc feel about wheres981?
For the unaware, wheres981 is a youtuber who uploads illegal "street racing" or more particularly what is called "cutting up"

His youtube is full of videos, I have no idea how he hasn't been identified yet. He runs with some other cars sometimes as well, these guys don't fuk around. No license plates on the cars, radios and scanners and chit. They will never stop for police.

Bird chit etching on roof
Title.
Never noticed it until the weather got very hot, and it's pretty bad. It has definitely eaten some ways through (maybe all the way) through the clearcoat.
Things I've tried so far:

Hairdryer (did nothing)
Blue Rupes heavy cutting pad with Megs UC and a DA polisher - did nothing
2500 grit wet and dry - did nothing

At this point I'm not sure what to do. I don't have a paint depth gauge so idk how much clear I can afford to shave off in the hopes that it removes the etching. There's 3 or 4 pretty big splatter marks on the roof, so maybe a full roof respray unless anyone has any other suggestions?

Going to formula drift in a couple of weeks.
Pretty excited to check this out. Drifting is prob my favorite kinda of racing motorsport. When I play on my racing sim it's pretty much mostly what I do.

Finally coming to the nearest racetrack to me, englishtown NJ.

The mission of Ghaziabad Precision Products is to offer high-performing, sustainable solutions. It operates three production sites in North India, all of which are self-sufficient, run by highly qualified personnel, and produce high-quality, industry-standard technical components.

GPP manufactures 12 million pushrods annually in three plants specializing in solid forged, solid welded, projection welded, and press fit types. The company's product line has grown to include rocker arms, shafts, assemblies, and push rods. It continuously investigates new business possibilities, and potential engine valve train solutions for Euro V and VI compliance, and provides professional guidance on international regulations to advance and upgrade technology. GPP thinks it is crucial to provide top-notch goods at a reasonable price to stay competitive in a dynamic international market.

The GPP is moving toward a bright future and becoming one of the world's preferred suppliers of valve train components with well-defined short-term plans and long-term growth strategies. It aims to provide clients with products and services that are error-free and delivered on time. The four cornerstones of GPP are quality, price, delivery, and services.

Moving to Vegas, might hybridmaxx with a Camry or Accord
Scored a great job in Las Vegas, and now that I won't need a truck anymore, I've been considering just getting a new Accord or Camry in hybrid form. Hybrid options aren't that much for an option, and pay off bigly for city mpg. I rented a Camry to drive down to Vegas, and I was really comfortable in it. Even going 80-85mph with the AC on, I was still getting 37-40mpg, even without the hybrid. When I move down in July, I'm going to test drive an accord to get a feel for that. I'd pretty much only be interested in the base models, I don't want the higher end versions. I'd get a used version of them, but I'll be most likely renting an apartment and I won't have the space to do maintenance or repairs.

Anyone have either of these cars? How have they been for long term ownership? Reliability?

Getting married and buying a house - keep which cars?
Hey folks, trying to figure out what to do with my cars. Getting married in June, building an expensive house in another town. Could keep all of them, but looking for some cost savings without losing utility. I will be working from home mostly when we move.

Current vehicles:

Hers: 2019 Mazda CX5 - 8k owed (worth 20k or so)($350/mo payment for another 2 years)

Mine:
2008 Porsche Cayenne turbo - paid off (worth 20k or so) - had for 6 years, only 100k miles, have done ALL the preventative maintenance and more, set to run a lot longer
2018 BMW M550i - owe 25k, worth about 35k - favorite car I've ever had ($750/mo payment for another 2 years)
(2) BMW E39 5-series restoration projects nearly done, no loan, worth about 5k each

I love the utility of the cayenne. Being able to haul ass and tow anything is beautiful to me. And it's in great shape. But she hates the loud exhaust and the age shows on the interior due to a lack of features that newer cars have. Gas mileage is awful tho.

She likes her car and isn't looking to change. Obvious answer is sell all mine except the Cayenne. Just gonna really miss the highway characteristics of the M550i, and we'll be a 4+ hour drive from family so will be on the road a decent bit.

Other direction I'm thinking is sell all mine and get a 2023 GMC Canyon Denali to keep the utility but add good highway characteristics and interior features.

Thoughts?

Buy newer & mod less OR Buy older and mod more?
***Update as of 10.15.21...I sold the Subaru and bought a real project....found something for the 402 BB that I'm building.

*Update as of 5/17/21.

I bought something. See post 29........it's not what I was expecting, but I love it so far.

Looking for a weekend ripper......Occasional Autocross & Road Course duty, but mainly early weekend mornings ripping around unpopulated industrial areas. I really enjoy working on cars and now I have the space to do so, but I may not have the amount of time that I would ideally like to be able to do the work. This car will not serve dual purpose and (in my mind) will be as "racecar" as I can get it....gutted interior/suspension/rollcage/No AC/no cats/etc

The main question (mainly brought about by my recent sizable raise) is......

Do I drop $5500 on an (example) 2003 Mustang GT and spend another $8k in mods to get it where I want, taking weekends to do mods and really make it mine.... Having something pretty raw, that I don't feel bad about gutting and maybe wall-tapping in a year or so
or
Do I drop $13k on a (example) 2013 Mustang GT, $2500 on suspension/tires and maybe another $1500 on engine/exhaust mods, gut it, racing seat/harness and be good to go with mid 400's HP and no REAL work to be done and be ripping in a month?

I just don't know. Help me out bros.......

Ordered a Challenger boyos
Just placed an order for a 2023 Challenger "Body-in-white" in Plum Crazy Purple. The plan is to build a 8 second drag car. It should be sweet. From what I was told through Direct Connection, less than 25 of these have been ordered so they will be pretty much vaporware in the future.

DIY repair of a chipped windshield?
Has anyone found a product that will actually fix chips in a windshield? I got one yesterday. Its not splintering, hell, its not even a star, its just a small chip but I want to get it filled before the heat of the summer rolls in

I've looked on youtube at a dozen or so repair kits and they're ALL garbage.

I'm actually willing to go to Safelite or some other local place, but i'm not sure what pricepoint I should expect and I don't want to get ripped off. I'm assuming its going to beat least$150 or is that too much?

It has 170k miles alot of them have been city miles. its my beater car so I don't care too much about it.

can not replacing them lead to a bigger issue? the car drives like it's on water goes up and down sometimes the front lip hits the pavement if roads are bumpy.

oither than that great car.

Trickle charger question for reps
I bought a trickle charger because I haven't been driving my subaru. It's been sitting for about a month now, the battery is dead.

It's totally dead, can't even unlock the car door or do anything, no power at all.

My question:

Should I jump my subaru and get the battery back to normal before leaving it on the trickle charger. Or can I just throw the trickle charger on and it will be powered back up and ready to start in a day or two? Does a trickle charger work like that, powering up a dead battery, or just maintaining charge on already charted battery?

What do you guys think about these cars? Been looking for a commuter for my 90 mile a day commute. Seem to have good warranties. We have one at my work I can get a deal on. Gonna go test drive it on lunch.

Mechanic bros - cv shaft broken. fault?
Have a car, 18k miles on it. just past warranty (6 years)

Transmission went and got it replaced. After about 100 miles, the cv shaft broke.
First reply from guy who did transmission was the cv shaft is a consumable and probably unrelated. Wants $400 to look at it. (dealing with dealership/manufacturer so prices are bloated. e.g. tranmission $12k, cooling system $10k, mechanic $200/h)

So question to mechanic/people. I know that the cv shaft is connected to transmission, but is it highly likely the mechanic didnt put the cv shaft back into transmission properly and why it broke so soon after transmission or is it possibly unrelated?

Audi RS3, any good?
So I’ve been interested in this car ever since I heard one, seriously one of the best sounding cars I’ve heard, that 5cyl hnnggg!!! It seems it’s got a really stout motor, many people getting tons of HP w/ little mods and a tune.

None are on dealer lots, I’m guessing demand is high. This would be my first Audi, what does this misc think about these cars? Anyone know the wait on ordering one?

RIP W12 engine
End of an era...

Bentley has become synonymous with its powerful W12 engine but will end production of the mill in April 2024 by which time more than 105,000 units will have been produced during the engine’s life span.
