Bonus points for writing a roster of characters that the viewer doesnt want to strangle 20 minutes into the movie. And who are not complete fukups/retards. Because you need them to be retards - despite being the very best the science field has to offer - to actually move the movie forward.
I couldn't believe how stupid the scientists were...
Pulling off their helmets because it says there is oxygen in the cavern. You would think scientists would be aware of the danger of exposing themselves to diseases on an alien planet.

- two geologists or whatever map the whole ship, then weed lmao and then the idiots manage to get lost
- nobody really gives a chit because the captain is busy diking down Charlize Theron
- archeologist guy (Holloway?) has a raging anti-robot boner because why not, goes on a 4 year mission, is actually present at the most significant dig site in the history of mankind, gets fed up that he hasn't found anything in 2 hours so proceeds to get mopey and hammered in the bar room
- you can tell that the scriptwriter really expected the audience to get shocked by the reveals that Weyland - aka human scrotum whose make-up was apparently done by Ridley's cousin - was tagging along in his secret room and that Vickers is his daughter
- but absolutely nobody cares because Weyland dies after maybe 5 minutes of screentime and the Vickers reveal is completely pointless
And so on.
It's really a lot of show and pretentiousness but almost no substance. No idea where people are getting this "2deep4you" notion from.

hardcore alien fans didn't like it cuz no alien. movie snobs didn't like it because there were some dumb tropes like running in a straight line and some cookie cutter characters.
but i loved the chit out of it enough to forgive the minor tropes. the whole world building, mythos, spectacular set pieces, engineers, and origin of species plot had me. then covenant went and just shat all over it and turned into an aliens movie.

I liked prometheus and i also liked alien convenant. I think i even preffered covenant because they showed bits of the egineer civilization and that was very interesting, yes it had plot holes and what not but the set and character design was as always top notch

it has to be one of the worst build-up and reveal of any sequel in recent memory.

I mean...people are fallible, and the crew has been hyped up to think they are meeting their creators. Not a bio weapon. So for some of them it is all about majesty and the divine until the events start unfolding.Give it a bump when you do. I’d like to see what you thought after 2nd viewings. I might do the same. It’s been a while since I’ve seen them and would prob like them more a 2nd time through.
I'll re-watch Covenant soon too but must admit that I thoroughly enjoyed Prometheus.

While I quite enjoyed for it's a good movie, watched half a dozen times actually, it lacks originality and a strong unpredictable climax.
"Alien 3" and "Alien Resurrection" were more unpredictable and have the endings which were truly needed to give a closure to the world with Ripley in its center.
But I love it and its sequel, "Alien: Covenant."
Any sequels if it's available in the future I'll definitely watch them.

Having never liked the original Alien movies (I watched it when I was 8 and preferred Predator), Prometheus is actually what got me into Aliens. I didnt even know it was an alien movie until like half way through. COvenant was just as good.
So I went back and watched the originals this week. Honestly the latest movies are better with the Alien (1) being the 3rd best 2 being 4th and so on.
The latest two just had far more depth than the original 4 in terms of story telling vs just being about scary action.

Alien 1 and 2 are incredible, ranking as some of my all time favorite movies.
Alien 3 (Assembly Cut) suffers from its extremely troubled development, with the final result being a Frankenstein's monster of multiple scripts and ideas that just don't gel well enough amidst so many seemingly basic flaws. The first two movies work so well because they both feature likable, relatable casts who we can attach ourselves to, which is a complete contrast to Alien 3's prison colony full of - and Iquote- "thieves, rapists, murderers, child-molesters."
Even if we approach this as them being the idealfodderfor the Alien (also a hard downgrade to swallow after Alien's entire hive), the kills are nothing all to special, in great part because of the Alien itself being composited into the scenes with such jarring visual artifacts. Additionally, thepotentialfor at least exchanging numerous xenomorphs for onecrazylooking one because of it infecting an Ox (Assembly Cut) or, hell, even just a dog like in the theatrical cut. How unlikable everyone is except Ripley
Resurrection gets a lot of hate, but if you take it more like a lighter action movie take on the franchise while trying to figure out what the hell to do after Alien 3's ending, it's at least entertaining. After watching the four main movies back to back, at least even the most unlikable characters are at least in the same galaxy of being able to relate to over Alien 3's prisoners.
Prometheus has its many flaws, but arguably the difficult aspect conceptually would be trying to answer questions to a creature whose mystique is its very nature of being a representation of the unknown. Ignoring logical inconsistency, my favorite part was hands down thetrilobite, just for how completely out there and "what the f*ck" it was from a design standpoint. I'm also quite fond of the "Deacon" alien-burster at the end, but even if I set aside all criticisms towards the movie, the worst part of Prometheus is how it all feels like wasted potential because...
Alien Covenant f*ckedeverythingup. Where I loved Alien 1 and 2, and could at least get some enjoyment out of 3 and Res, Ihatedthis movie. The engineers and titularAlienparts all come off as contractually obligated inclusions for Ridley Scott to jerk off two robots. And the lead actress is kind of... off? I vastly preferred Noomi Rapace, oh, and we also went from Idris Elba to f*cking Eastbound and Down, not-subtle-reference to Alien's Dallas.
The most positive thing I can say about Prometheus is, "It's not Alien Covenant," because I found Alien Covenantsof*cking bad that everything in the franchise beforehand benefits for simplynotbeing Alien Covenant.
Any of the remotely interesting character development in Prometheus, Covenant killed off screen.
Any questionable or stupid decisions characters made in Prometheus, Covenant went full retard.
Whatever open ended questions Prometheus left open, Covenant screwed up.
Gay flute robots.
I could set aside flaws in Prometheus for what was to come, but Covenant was almost aggressively trying to retroactively dilute the entire franchise.

I love the direction it started taking the franchise. Then Alien: Covenant came out and absolutely destroyed everything Prometheus tried to do. I mean, I'm not a movie critic and I enjoyed Alien 3 and Resurrection despite not being great....but wow, Covenant was horrible. We spent a couple years waiting for the follow up to see the origins of the "Engineers" and then David rekts them in a 45 second clip.
