If humans could learn to understand and build things, I see no reason why a computer couldn't eventually do the same. We have some baseline instinctual behavior and then the rest is learned. It is possible that intelligence itself is something that can be entirely generated from an algorithm. Considering that we all came from single cells with a single instruction set, which built up into our complicated brains in a predefined way, it seems reasonable to believe that through some extraordinarily complex mechanism, intelligence really is just an algorithm. We might one day discover an analogous algorithm for computers.

You keep saying that you love science and maths and stuff.
Read a book on machine learning and you will see for yourself.

I mean we are close in the sense that in the next hundred years or so we will likely make substantial progress -- if we are still around.

It's good to see that with all the hardships in the world right now that religious people are still as out of touch with reality as ever.

This is because even the basic ideas of these things did not exist back then. The bible doesn't answer questions about the ethics of intellectual or digital property. There are a lot of things the bible is not equipped to answer. At best, it is incomplete. At worst, it is incorrect (as I argue with how it conflicts with special relativity). All of this means we have outgrown it. It is time to look to richer frameworks to build our notions of ethics and law and to describe our models of the universe. The bible was a rough first draft of an everchanging endeavor.
I agree with that.

I spent the past 3 years trying to find a 'place' within Christianity. As much I hoped wouldn't be the case, a lot of Christians I met did take the bible literally, rather than as a mythical and mystical text - or they followed an official vanguard (e.g. The Vatican).

I took it to be a collection of; myths, historical fiction, records of religious beliefs, principles, parables, etc. If taken literally as guidance, it is very limited regarding how to organize society and answer ethical questions IMO (though I do believe that it can lead to insights, that secular philosophies often do not. IME many Secular Humanists are incredibly gung ho or apathetic about the affect of a Technocracy, Transhumanism, and AI. IME it's mainly spiritual or religious people who are most alarmed by Tech trends).

IMO part of the genius of Jesus was to repeatedly talk about meta-ethics/principles from which to create ethical or political systems.

Anyone who has done any research into Ethical philosophy and Moral psychology will know that value-judgments or objectives are at the root of any ethical or political system, not logic. Logic just ensures consistency to the value-judgements or objective.

I've also noticed that most Secular Humanists are Consequentialists or deontologists (e.g. Libertarians) when it comes to ethics. IME it's mainly religious or 'spiritual but not religious' people who follow the approach of Virtue Ethics (which is the approach I follow) - an emphasis on intention and character applied within a context, rather than on absolute rules and consequences determining what is good.

You don't have to believe in God to be a righteous person.

Moral non-believers are actually more righteous than moral believers. The moral non-believers don't do good acts for reward or "paradise", they do the right thing simply because it's the right thing. Moral believers expect to be rewarded, if there is no reward, maybe they become demons instead?

Climate change is not "established science", climate change is political.

Man-made climate change is largely false and I have already proven it.

That is a gross generalization.

For example; Evangelical Christians are 'Moral Believers', and they don't believe that acts lead to heaven or reward, they believe that heaven soley comes through believing in Christian Theology (Sole Fide). They believe that 'Faith without Acts' is dead, meaning that if a person believes and loves Jesus, they will be filled with the Holy Spirit and feel compelled to be charitable in their thoughts, words and deeds.

There are Sufis who teach that to do good acts for reward or heaven is a low level of spirituality, and that acts done through the pure love of God and humanity is the highest level. Same in other religious traditions to my knowledge like Sikhism and Bhakti traditions in Hinduism.

The kind of 'moral believer' you are speaking about is operating on the 'carrot and stick' level of spirituality, but that is by no means all 'moral believers'. I promise that things become more nuanced the more you interact with people within various traditions IRL, and have conversations with them (if you don't already do that).

There is no way to tell them apart. We often talk loosely about different numbers of electrons, but this is just a heuristic observed at the scales we exist. More fundamentally, the number of electrons in a region of space itself isn't even fixed. We now have an interpretation where there is just "the electron field", and a certain propensity for stuff to be there when you look. Point being that fundamentally, you really cannot tell any two electrons apart. They are truly indistinguishable. How you know things are different absolutely matters to you operationally being able to call them different.

If you have some notion of intelligence or consciousness or w/e, and a robot simulates it to sufficient level that no human can tell it apart from any other human, for all practical purposes, we may consider it to be equivalent. As such, we probably ought to give it the same rights, etc. But that's a separate ethical question. My main point is the bible doesn't tell us how to deal with any of this.
If humans can develop planets and create human clones, the clone workers we put on a new developmental planet would accept whatever religion we gave them or come up with one on their own. Maybe we never actually interact with our creations and allow them to live and die without ever having knowledge of us, their creators.

They'll believe in some form of paradise after death, some righteous judgement of the wicked and some meeting with the Creator. Their creator is no God though, he is just a human, suffering through existence and ignorant to his own fate after death.

Kinda funny actually

I wonder how many religious used this text in support of their murderous paranoia towards “witches” during the centuries. Martin Luther in particular seemed to be very harsh on the “witches”- see his writings.

There is a popular notion that OT = bad in parts, NT = The pinnacle of morality. (in fact Jesus, the practicing Galilean Jew that he was*, supports the teachings and law of the OT in multiple places, so the previous statement is somewhat contradictory in the first place)

There are plenty of criticisms of the NT though, especially from a modern view of ethics (this is not surprising....ethics change with time and the “zeitgeist”, and it’s been 2000 years).

Some criticisms are about what Jesus didn’t say much (or anything) about: the issue of slavery for instance. If Jesus came out strongly and said anything along the lines of “Thou shalt not get into heaven if thou ownest another human being”, I would imagine slavery wouldn’t have been so common in some Christian nations throughout history.

There are questionable views regarding the inferiority of women in the NT.

Jesus seems in several places to be very critical of wealth and earthly things. While perhaps not a bad stance, this could also be problematic in terms of building up successful societies and economies- hard to have a flourishing society if everyone is in poverty and/or there are no possessions.

The whole idea of “my idea is right”- now go conquer the world in the name of conversion and missionary work, at the expense of individual cultures, is questionable.

The harsh views on sexuality (we are talking harsh- see the sermon on the mount), is a bit much since humans (due to the natural way we evolved over millions of years) are sexual creatures by nature.

The Golden Rule, which is preceded by non-Christian versions like the silver rule, etc, while perhaps a generally good moral rule, also has its problems. No one thinks a homeless beggar should give a rich businessman walking by $5, just because the homeless guy would want the businessman to give him money. Or that a judge should sentence a murderer to zero prison time just because the judge himself would probably want that if he were in that circumstance. Or just simply that other people may not want the same things as you do.

The idea of hell is a very questionable doctrine, and Jesus seemed to believe in it. The whole concept of everlasting punishment or torture for not believing in someone- there is no morality in any of this (complicate this further by considering that free will is very questionable, and likely does not exist)

Jesus himself seems prone to anger in many parts of the gospels, and there are also head scratchers throughout such as the parable of the Banquet (which the main takeaway seems to be: be vindictive).

*: In this instance, and the rest below, just talking about how Jesus is presented in the text. This is completely separate from the historical question of whether any of this happened....of which there is sparse or no evidence.

True.

Jesus dealt with meta-ethics. Slavery would not be consistent with the meta-ethics of Jesus (Universal Benevolence).
The whole idea of “my idea is right”- now go conquer the world in the name of conversion and missionary work, at the expense of individual cultures, is questionable.
Jesus never told anyone to conquer.

You're basing that understanding on Translation.

Jesus spoke about Hades and Gehenna (the Valley Of Hinnom).

The Valley of Hinnom was a real place, said to be accurse.

Hades =/= the everlasting torment which you are speaking about.

In most english translations Hades and Gehenna are both translated as hell, and hell to most western Christians = eternal torment.

In Orthodox Christianity Hell has 3 different versions (as far as I can tell); death and ceasing to exist, temporary place of agony, and a permanent place of agony.

Also the question of whether hell is punishment carried out by God vs Simply a place where people who have turned away from Godliness (E.g. Good character) congregate is also questions.

Theology is far more nuanced than you seem to think it is.
The Golden Rule, which is preceded by non-Christian versions like the silver rule, etc, while perhaps a generally good moral rule, also has its problems. No one thinks a homeless beggar should give a rich businessman walking by $5, just because the homeless guy would want the businessman to give him money. Or just simply that other people may not want the same things as you do..
Want vs Need. The Golden Rule as most people understand it is about giving people what they (spiritually and psychologically) need, not what necessarily what they want.

That's one way of looking at the golden rule, which seems to doing whatever people desire or whatever a person's soley self-interest wants. What Jesus is more likely calling people to is empathy and compassion.

A practical way of applying the Golden Rule is to have a model of human needs, and attempting to meet their needs, not simply giving them what they want. Simply placating to whatever whim a person has at the time, not treating well, it can enable destructive habits and/or bad character.

E.g. The Golden Rule applied to a crack addict asking you for money to get high, would be not to give them the money (and say a prayer for them).

This world is falling away, & it is undoubtedly because we have turned our back on God. Abortion on demand, pew doughs push for acceptance, (and getting it) tranny time story hour to children, Middle East alliances, the rebuilding of the Temple, Peace Plan accepted Revelations is happening before our very eyes & people still refuse to look.

Global laws against ****philia really only came about in the 20th century. Global aversion to ****philia seem to only have began in the 20th century. (As did a global aversion to Child labour).

Look at Shirley Temple, or a 12 year old Brook Shields fully nude in her debut film. That chit would not fly in modern cinema, it simply would not be allowed to have a 12 year old girl nude on screen. I can't see a reversion to that any time soon, despite conservative alarmism.

I'm just saying, things have gotten significantly better regarding child protection and anti-****philia. I don't think we are going to go back.

Those 2 examples in no way makes me think we are going to return to a time when a 12 year old girl can be nude on cinema screen.

Have you not seen the public and MSM outrage about Epstein and Maxwell?

Did you not see the public outrage about Jimmy Saville?

IMO that definitely does not sound like a public that is going to accept ****philia.

Maybe you don't realize how bad things were even at the beginning of the 20th century, honestly please take the time to watch this, and tell me if you think this would be allowed in cinemas...

Please be honest, do you think the scenes in the above video would be allowed to be shown today?

Like I said, it's no longer on a distant screen, it's right in your back yard. It's being pushed and accepted. Like an OP said.."Pe-do doesnt become decriminalized overnight, its a decades long baby step process where one day 12 year old boys are allowed to decide to chemically castrate themselves and 10 year old girls are allowed the same my body/my rights argument, until that eventual generation grows up seeing this as the norm and those disagreeing with it as the issue."

You think pe do is on the decline?
What world are you living in..

Edit..I don't want to watch that video, if there are some inappropriate scenes in it..wtf are you posting that chit for?

Like I said, age of consent laws enmasse only was introduced globally in the 20th century.
It's being pushed and accepted.
Epstein and Maxwell, the UK muslim grooming gangs scandals, Jimmy Saville's **** legacy, response from the public says otherwise. They have a long way to go for the public to return to pre-20th century views on kids.

One where statistics show that overall the world is overall a less violent place than the previous centuries.

A world where we now have laws and social taboos against ****philia, where they didn't exist before (e.g. Jimmy Saville got away openly with bragging about ****philia in his biography in the 1970s).

The public have turned on ****philia.

I don't think you watched the video, did you? Again, do you think that would be allowed in cinemas? Even if they were do you think adults would be able to go to those showings, without being shamed or assaulted?

No, we are just going to outright legalize it.

How did this thread end up in some pro-life debate?

Also, for the record, I don't believe in god, I said it in the very first line.

Neither am I saying christianity is virtuous. Its not. I'm saying it created western dominance over the past 400-600 years. How TF is genociding devil-worshipping natives in the name of christ something good?

Also, on that note, christianity is an extremely cleverly designed religion. jesus is some blond haired, blue eyed (i know he's a arab, but bear with me) messiah that loves everyone. He's so loving, and easy to love, that its so easy to think of him as you heavenly father, and kill the infidels in his name. Very easily marketable.

Contrast to any religion, say Taoism. Have you seen Chinese gods? They're in all sorts of weird colours, with long sharp tongues and bulging eyes. Looks scary as fuk, definitely satanic. Look at the mesoamerican ones, not even fukking human, and they demand the hearts of men, pyramids smeared top to bottom in blood.

Yet, christianity has the highest kill count. I don't think its the religion per se, more like its easily marketable, easy to use as casus belli to kill filthy devil worshippers, easy to spread to the local populace and achieve cultural dominance.

Society, dominance and power is all I'm talking about, nothing about which religion is moral, or pro/anti=life, or if it is true or not.

I'm sorry to have to break this to you but Christianity comes from the same place our modern cult problems come from.

When I say our modern problems I'm not talking about homelessness, I'm talking about mystery cults, transgenderism, ritual chid sacrifice, blood drinking and mass orgies which included children.

ROMANS

I'm going to try to make this post condensed but this goes very deep, I'm going to tell you who Jesus prayed to and why you should care

Ouranus is the "Father in Heaven".
Gaia is "Mother Earth".
Their marriage represents the union between Heaven and Earth, "As Above, So Below"

Ouranus hated his Children. He hid them away, returning them deep into the Earth(Gaia's womb).
Gaia resented her Husband, she made a weapon, she asked for help; one answered, two plotted.
Kronos is the youngest of the Titans. Kronos envied his Father's power.

While Heaven is being intimate with Earth, Kronos grabs Ouranus by the balls and castrates him with the weapon made by Gaia, a stone scythe.
The blood that landed upon Earth created Giants, Furies and Nymphs. The "white foam" from Heaven's balls landed on his brother, the Sea(Pontus) and created Aphrodite.
Kronos would take his Fathers place as the Supreme Authority. Kronos' reign as "Father in Heaven" would become known as the "Golden Age" or "Golden Rule"

Rhea is the Wife of Kronos and known as "Mother of the Gods"
Kronos was told he would meet the same fate as his Father at the hands of his Children. Kronos decided to eat his Children at birth. Rhea grows resentful after he consumes the 5th Child.
Rhea and Gaia plot against Kronos to save her 6th Child, the 6th Child is Zeus, the 6th Child would be the one to overthrow Kronos.
When Zeus was born Rhea switched him with a stone wrapped in swaddling clothes which Kronos ate. Zeus was then put in the custody of Earth.
When Zeus reached maturity he confronted his father. Zeus gave Kronos an emetic which caused him to vomit Demeter, Hera, Hades, Poseiden and Hestia.
Zeus killed Kampe in Tartarus then released the Kyklopes and Hekatonkheires. They made Zeus thunderbolts, Poseidon the trident and Hades a helmet.
Thunderbolts for the Sky God, a fishing spear for the Sea God and a helmet for the God of Hell. They overthrew Kronos in a great war known as the "Titanomachy".
It is said Kronos went on to rule Elysium which was also known as "Fortunate Isles". Fortunate Isles is "Paradise". See the movie "The Island" for a cinematic rep.
Kronos is the Ruler of Paradise.

That is Saturn, he is the Roman equivalent of Kronos and he comes with the same back story, except it was his 3rd son that overthrew him. That is Saturn eating his children, he had a cult following.
This story of castrating the Father, the Father eating the children and the Son overthrowing the father does not originate with the Greeks and Romans, it comes from Mesopotamia.
Cube of Saturn - Saturnalia - Human sacrifice - The numbers I mention are important(3rd Son, 6th Son, ect) but I wont get into that now.

Saturnalia was a large festival in Rome to honor the God, Saturn.
The festival features gambling, drinking, dancing, music and an exchange of gag gifts.
Unfortunately the festival also included transgenderism, ritual child sacrifice, blood drinking, magick and mass orgies which included children.

Jupiter or "Jove" is Zeus' Roman equivalent. Jove is also known as "Luppiter"

Seal of Solomon

King Solomon built temples to Chomosh.

Chomosh is also known as Ashtar-Chemosh and Chemosh-Melek. These figures were associated with Ashtarte(Inanna/Aphrodite) and Moloch(Baal - Adon). Moloch is associated with child sacrifice and Yahweh carries the title Melek, some say YWH and MLK are one in the same. Adoni means "Lord". Adonis was Aphrodite's lover, Zeus ordered Adonis to spend 1/3rd of the year in the Underworld.

Christmas comes from the festival known as Saturnalia, during this festival gifts were given, children were sacrificed and women and man reversed roles and clothing. Transgenderism is not new.

Feast of the Holy Innocents is actually the Massacre of the Innocents. If you don't know about this yet you will find it highly interesting.

Oh yeah, Jesus prayed to a Greek God who did not originate in Greece.
I: Self, Lord and Master.

"I rub my hands when my palms itch."

"I call you Son not because you Shine but because you Mine."

Idk about all that.

I think it would have been the "God" made out of El and Yahweh...

https://www.theosophical.org/news/da...he-great-angel

Barker disagrees, saying that the Deuteronomic history was written by innovators who radically altered the Jewish religion and rewrote history to reflect their views. Moreover, the Josianic "reform" of 621 was itself a radical restructuring of the faith. Up to that time, she suggests, the Israelites had worshipped a trinity of gods: El, the high, absolute God; Yahweh, the national god of Israel ; and Asherah, Yahweh's consort. Contrary to what the current version of the Bible says, worship of this trinity was not an aberration, but the nation's standard religion up to that time. The Deuteronomic reform purged the goddess Asherah and conflated El with Yahweh, so that the national god of Israel was now equated with the high God. Monotheism as we know it was born.
