I've ended up making all of my significant life changes to become more healthy after getting married and having a kid, lol. So it isn't like having a family is a death sentence to weight loss or gains.

For the people saying fatties shouldn't lose weight too fast... How fast is too fast? Like.. 40lbs in 9 months? Because that's what I'm on pace for November... Want to make sure I'm not going to fck myself up.

You're not going to. Follow practical, simple advice. 40lbs in 9 months is perfectly fine. That's slow if anything

Can confirm. Was an out of shape, fat dad after kids. While the kids are a stressor, the main culprit was food.
You don't have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great.

I think my argument and other's arguments are now on different tangents.

My argument was that genetics plays a role in body composition. This was in the fact how men and women carry their weight. I used family as an example, as well as women who are carrying children. How people store fat will vary.

I think the argument going on this and the last page was in regards to eating lots of calories gets you fat. I'm not disagreeing with that, 8,000 calories is 8,000 calories. You will get fat from that.

As per the D1 athlete example, I also don't disagree with you there since those athletes have to push their bodies to an extraordinary level. They will always burn what they consume (also not arguing this).

My last line reading my reply was worded incorrectly; that's all.

However...I don't know where you're going with your last sentence.

Its not laziness its stress.. And some are more prone to stress eating then others.

Get off your high horses, its called real life, put down the weights for a brief moment and put yourself in someone elses shoes.. I'm a yoyo stress dieter to the extreme.. Father passed away 3 years ago, hard gained 50 lbs.. Lost it all a few months later.. Had a daughter, gained 30 .. Lost it all..

And as shocking as it is to some of your thick headed turds none of it was due to my laziness, as i was still in the gym couple times a week..

You can't always put staying in shape as your top priority. That's real life for you. You can eat less without going to the gym, but that's not going to make you look good; you'll just be skinny fat. Also, 9-5 really isn't a "demanding job." When people talk about demanding jobs, they're talking about 10-12 hours a day and weekend work.

Sorry Boyos but this isn't an aging/metabolism problem but a poor diet and laziness problem.

Ok. You're right that poor eating habits are the cause for weight gain. On the other hand, it's usually not that hard to reverse 40 pounds or so of weight gain, so it's not the end of the world.

But you could have all that and not deteriorate in health/looks.

Getting fat cause you have a wife and kids now does not sound like a happy situation.

Fat cells are hormonally active and release peptide hormones that act on the brain to modulate behavior. The most famous one is leptin, which is a satiety signal, but new research is documenting the existence of one called copin. High levels of copin have been shown to suppress activity in the prefrontal cortex, inhibiting logical thinking, such as "oh schit, maybe being a fat slob is bad for my health" in an effort to preserve emotional health.

Also, I was about to say he's a poor role model for his children, but then I remembered he's a Redditor, so the kids are screwed regardless.

There is NO reason for a man to gain weight because HIS WIFE has kids.

None at all.

At least women have an excuse, even though my wife is back to her pre-pregnancy weight 2 years after the birth. Women get a couple years or two to recover, men should be back in shape around the 4-6 month mark (understandable to gain a little in the first three months due to lack of sleep).
When all that says 'it is good' has been debunked, what says 'I want' remains.

Adding onto your point, women also have no excuse to KEEP the weight from pregnancy other than laziness or lack of motivation.

Seems rather pathetic, especially coming from users on a bodybuilding forum.

i agree. it's a pain in the ass to eat healthy and stay within your macros. you have to practically cook two meals; one fore the kids and the other for yourself. it gets worse when your kids are picky eaters

I can understand where people are coming from when they want to prioritize other things later on in life like work, family, etc especially as they lose energy as they age, BUT, your body is literally how you interact with the world. It's directly related to how you experience life. Usually when people put physical health lower on the totem pole they are simply not thinking clearly in the big picture.

Imagine spending all this time working to save up money for you kid's college fund, but your kid has a sh!tty childhood because when he's 5-13 you couldn't play with them or bring them anywhere because you were a fat fuk.

Or imagine being 40+ and you're walking slow as a snail, have back problems, can't even play basketball or go for a jog because your knees are shot, etc.

Then being 80 and it takes you 30 min to walk across the street... if you're lucky. You might be getting spoon fed in a wheelchair.
Death is impossible for us to fathom: it is so immense, so frightening, that we will do almost anything to avoid thinking about it. Society is organized to make death invisible, to keep it several steps removed. That distance may seem necessary for our comfort, but it comes with a terrible price: the illusion of limitless time, and a consequent lack of seriousness about daily life. We are running away from the one reality that faces us all.
