doctors who pursue money and orient their practice as such do become somewhat rich. The others (who don't - the majority) arent really rich. But they're still in the top 1-3% of society based on income.

Why would a radiologist have major overhead though? But what you do bill is definitely quite difference. 25% is a competitive overhead rate for family med for example. Easier to hit 400k+ in billings in Canada hence Canadian family docs make a lot more than american ones. Same for things like opthalmology but the overhead can be 40-50%....

I'd bet money that the majority of people who grew up with those circumstances do not grow up to be rich, and happy people, even if they 'work hard'. IMO it's easy to look at the few positive examples and think that means that 'anyone can do it'.

I'm also inclined to think those guys (who had grew up an orphan, severely abused, with no encouragement towards education, etc) were born with a disposition to be unusually ambitious. I don't believe that humans are born tabula rasa, but I do think that our upbringing/environment shapes us more than most people acknowledge.

I think we are more in agreement on most things than disagreement. I think where we fundamentally disagree is the possibility of being able to make it.
Possibility is there, everyone has their own obstacles in life, the name of the game is dealing with those obstacles.
At the end of the day you can choose to fight or you can choose to rot, I am just trying to make more people feel empowered to fight....the outcome is almost always better no matter how far you reach.

Its kind of like lifting. Only a select few will ever become an IFBB pro, because quite frankly your genetic influence plays a big role in your success.
But going to the gym and putting in the effort will give you a better physique than you would have had even with not so good genetics.

When I have these conversations with younger people, I always ask them "whats the down side of trying hard at something"
Its always interesting to hear their answers.
