scrum is very normal and popular.

the standing is to stop it from dragging on. its a quick update to help your team and such. I was at a company for almost 2 years that did scrum, we hired in a manager that would sit and scrum went from its 5 minutes to 20+ some days. the standing has a big effect on time spent in a meeting

I meant till that new kid in the office is a different generation.

I didn't mean we would be gone.

simple timeline..

Also....

I had the ceos 18 year old daughter that was assigned to me as in intern.

i am still laughing about that one. She really tried hard but i permenently contaminated he brain with my sailorly ways.

One of my proudest accomplishments to be honest.

Why they picked my i have no idea but that poor kid certainly will never be the sweet innocent thing she was when she showed up.

It isn't a management thing; it's a sync up for the entire team - good to know what people are working on in two sentences, or what they're blocked on. It's also productive to open up conversations between individuals after the stand-up.We do it even if the manager isn't there- amazing concept for you guys!!

It takes less time to say something, than to read a email chain.

Just like it would have taken me less than 5 minutes to explain SCRUM methodology to you. Rather than wait 3 hours for our back and forth to actually flourish.

It also promote team building. It helps the engineers to get out of their FA shells and communicate with others.

My team would also let different people lead the SCRUM, so they can get a feel of leadership roles. See if they shine in that area for advancement.

It gets people out of a meeting room and just meet in a cube or the break room.

My teams have always talked to each other, we don't need a scrum to do it. My manager might have called a team meeting every two weeks or so but we already knew what each of us were doing and if someone was stuck they'd try to figure it out first then ask someone else in the group. But for half of my 10 years developing I was part of a special development team that worked closely with the CEO of a financial institution and the last 5 years working with a team of 4 as the only .NET developer. A lot of us have been in each other's weddings also because we're not just coworkers.

you boss sounds like a wank, and so does the team of kiss asses.

I remember working at a place where they required daily "huddles" where we would stand around while the manager talked about **** that could have been sent in an email. The worst bit was when they made us put our hands in together like a sporting team and yell "GOOO TEAM!" before we went back to our desks. Which these Kiss asses(like OP) lapped up, to try to get a promotion.

I refused to do it and quit, after the second meeting. (I actually played sports so i found this totally demeaning to any sports team that uses this for motivation and togetherness) we are software engineers, not Manchester United ffs.

rather be unemployed tbh then have to go through that

That's fine. If your team is small.

Don't worry guys, we'll stop doing the standup if it becomes ineffective or unproductive. I promise!!

Okay that GOOO TEAM part does sound gay, but the scrum meetings themselves are quite useful, no?

You have the quick 5-10 minute stand up to avoid the long meetings during the bulk of the work day.

Its like a regular meeting just a quicker one around someones desk not a big deal, I think tht's OPs point

This. What happened to pick your battles. He's at fukcing work and his superior asked him to do something. He gets paid to comply. Given the fact that he gave the biggest fight over something as simple as "stand up" why the fukc would they hire him or keep him employed. Why trust him with any responsibility since he seems to have it in his head that he can be openly insubordinate like that? He thinks he fukcing knows it all and can pick and choose what he wants to do? He's there to do what he's fukcing told.

Hope his bitch ass gets fired.

Why the fukc would he get the job over someone who puts in more effort at work? Assuming it was down to him and a few other candidates he's not doing himself any favors by not showing initiative at work. He didn't want to do the extra work and that's fine. Bro, you would get on your knees and beg me for a job. My base salary alone is over double yours.

If I saw your smug little face on LinkedIn I'd immediately classify you as an arrogant little ****tard though and reject your application.

It's not just for your team, it is for everybody who is outside the circle. Sounds like you and your buddies know what they are doing but nobody else outside your group knows nor do you know what they are doing. Instead of taking five minutes to jerk off around the coffee machine you have a standup and the entire company (or division or group or whatever) knows what is going on. Maybe for your setup it doesn't matter so much. But business software is boring and doesn't change very much. I'm the technical director/manager for a game studio. The 10 minutes it takes to go through a standup I know what all of my people are working on and if they are blocked by anything. It would take me longer then 10 minutes to talk to all of them individually. And since making games is a creative endeavor there are artists, QA, and production people inside (and outside) the circle. Knowing what they are doing makes doing our job much easier. Especially if tech is blocked on art or design it can be brought up to be dealt with after the standup.

This is what a shtty manager sounds like. All they can think about is "what are you gonna do for me?" instead of "who will benefit the team more in this position?".

Employees do not owe you extra work. They owe you the work they agreed to do for the money your bosses agreed to pay them. Stop trying to pawn off your work to them, then act like a kunt when they don't want to do your goddamned job for less money.

then give him the legit reason why he didnt get hired - "You didnt show initiative to do more work when you were asked and therefore we are looking for someone who shows more motivation and goes beyond what is required of them"

instead of "you lacked the skills to be able to do this, which you could have learnt in 2 months if took on that extra responsibility we asked you to do"

yeah retard if it takes 2 months to get that skill, its obviously not a difficult job and the guy would have picked it up easy

What pisses me off the most about this is you'd have older candidates who would fukin KILL for the opportunity that brat had and put 120% into it. Yet its the no-respect younger generation of entitled twats first in line.
We have enslaved the rest of the animal creation, and have treated our distant cousins in fur and feathers so badly that beyond doubt, if they were able to formulate a religion, they would depict the Devil in human form.

For those who agree with the intern/milennial/purple haired guy/etc....

Is this honestly the reason why? (srs)

I really think so, as most people's favorite subject is themselves, or it's at least higher on their list of things that they like.....

That kid is alpha as fuk and will achieve more than OP ever will.

Why would he listen to your arbitrary rules that dont affect the companys productivity AT ALL. If your chef wasnt so insecure and trying to assert dominance (which he failed with) and instead focus on his job, he could increase his companys efficiency. The bosses always want yes-sayers like OP, because they can easily be exploited and never talk back.

Strong passive aggression. Would sue for hostile work environment.
