You clearly don't understand depression.

its not being sad when things go wrong, its being sad when everything is going right. And even the smallest things can seem like the biggest when you have depression.

No offense but that's kind of an insult to people who are depressed because they have cancer, lost a child, or someone to suicide. I think people like you need to get over yourselves, sorry to be rude but life ain't that bad.

Edit: What has helped me overcome my "depression" is kind of looking down on people who are depressed and just telling myself that only the strongest ones are the ones that are going to make it. Works like a charm.

Some people just have ****ed up brains. For those who don't believe in brain chemistry, just do some drugs. The brain is just a soup of chemical and electrical signals. Sometimes it goes wrong.

You're an idiot.

However, I've never been one to wave my problems in people's faces. But people who go through traumatic experiences and gain depression through them are the same. They're just a product of their enviornment. By your logic, you feel bad for child molesters who molest because they were when they were children, or people who abuse their partners or children because that's how they were raised. Maybe they should just get over it right? Maybe when someone's mother dies, they should just suck it up right? It's only depression, quotation marks don't change the definition.

You sound like a man that doesn't have a single idea of what he's talking about. Let me guess, you self-diagnosed yourself with depression because you felt a bit sad at a point in your life.

God, I hate when the ignorant people are always the most loud ones in the bunch.

The word depressed does get thrown around a lot, but you have to understand that sometimes, everything could be going well in life, and the person still feels miserable every day or borderline suicidal everyday.

Why is there no talk of it? Because "coming out" (no homo) has a lot of unfortunate consequences:
- You can't get certain jobs (If you've been diagnosed with depression at some point or another mental health disorder you can't be a cop..even just depression is enough)
- People will look at you different once you have the label of having a mental disorder, suddenly you could crack at any moment or are potentially dangerous EVEN to people that have known you before your diagnosis will likely act different. It's ridiculous but it happens.
- Before Obamacare you could actually be denied insurance coverage on the basis of depression (it happened to me), so its better to hide it.
- For males you're looked at as being "weak" or "different" and will get shunned or bullied by peers. Men aren't allowed to show feelings at least that's how it was when I was growing up; I don't think society is as "anti-emotion" for men as they were when I was younger. I remember being depressed and being told to "man up" "quit being a pussy" which is literally the equivalent of telling a quadriplegic (paralyzed from neck down) to quit being a pussy and walk.

People don't understand mental illnesses and quite frankly aren't interested in learning about it unless it happens to them and that's when they have a different view of it.

People need to understand that people suffering from mental illnesses (depression and anxiety specifically) aren't in their state of mind because they want to they just do not have the tools to deal with it like others do. Some are raised good and are taught on how to deal with anxiety and depression others don't get this.
i suffered with depression for 2 years a couple years back when i was in school because just pure amount of homework and studying made me have such a lack of social life for a long time. its really sad to hear and say this brah. srs. i agree here. but also, i think unfortunately, a lot of that stuff can be true tho. yes i understand that most dont care about mental disorder, and also that there are many stereotypes of people with mental health, but at the same time, the consequences CAN be true. like if u want to be a cop and u had psychopathic or depression tendencies, whats to say u wouldnt go out and kill someone cuz of a breakdown. they cant be too sure u would never do that. sad world we live in that alienates people with mental problems, but it can be more fact than opinion sometimes and most employers or society dont want to risk what could happen if something goes terribly wrong.

most people dont understand how torturous it can be with a certain mental illness that just stabs at you (metaphorically, in your brain). they dont want to touch these people. sad to say, but sometimes tho, the connotations can be true and cause problems especially for employers (some with mental illness may be like savants in one activity that no one understands and complete potatoes in a "regular" activity), so the employers dont want to handle these people.
DO IT! JUST DO IT! Don't let ur dreams b dreams. Yesterday u sed 2morrow, so JUST DO IT! Make ur dreams come tru! Sum people dream of success while ur gonna wake up & work HARD @ it! NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE! U should get 2 the point where any1 else wood quit, and ur not gonna stop there. NO! What r u waiting 4? YES U CAN! If ur tired of starting over, STOP GIVING UP!

I didn't mean to come off as an insensitive prick but you're missing the point. I can understand why some people are depressed but not others. It makes sense that some people are depressed vs people like you who seem to have everything going for them. A lot of it can be
due to just being mentally weak. Either way I hope you feel better srs.

By mentally weak do you mean an uncontrollable change of chemistry in the brain? You sound like you haven't the slightest clue on mental illness. Depression and other mental illness's are physical changes in how the brain operates, why do you think anti depressants work so well for so many people.
It's like telling someone with schizophrenia to stop having hallucinations. They can't control it, they can't help it and having people tell them to suck it up does absolutely nothing to better their situation.

I really don't think many people are depressed. Sad maybe, but most peoples brains haven't been fuked up enough to have real depression.
And let me tell you it sucks. Every day.

Real depression comes from bad heartbreak, trauma or terrible circumstances in life aka being a legit 2/10 or having a medical disorder imo. Some people do legit have depression because of their brain chemistry is fukked up too. But the former is the worst for people imo

Depression is never talked about because it's the minority and it will always be a very small percentage of people who have legit cases of it

There's a difference between schizophrenia and being depressed because you feel alone.

They're expendable not worthless. The majority of leaders and "successful" people in this world are men.

There is help out there if you are willing to look for it. Problem is a lot of people feel they have no one to turn to or they do not know where to start , so it becomes all too hard.

GPs can refer you to mental health clinicians who will bulk bill, there are even psychiatrist that will bulk bill you just have to do your research.

Internet being widely available to majority of people we have so many resources at our finger tips, support groups, forum, meet ups and chat with professional people.

If someone from your family is suffering than take the initiative and set up appointments for them, even take out health insurance for them. In Australia it is only 3 month wait to be seen in private facility for psych / alcohol & drugs.

People turn a blind eye because all too hard to deal with.

Depression is never talked about because it's the minority and it will always be a very small percentage of people who have legit cases of it
Not all depression=major depressive disorder. I hate when *******s like you try to decide who does and does not have depression or try to say well you aren't really depressed by comparing that person to someone who may be worse off. Should we start saying that most people don't really have social anxiety.... are the only people who really have social anxiety the ones who can't even leave their house because it is so crippling?
