Doubt that was the only reason. Glock would have put safeties on theirs for a contract that big.

Some days I regret not getting a FFP. It just depends on how much you think you'll be using the different magnification settings. If you get a low enough powered scope that you think you'll always have it at max power when you're shooting far enough to hold over, then I would think a SFP would be just fine.

You can build a Glock cheaper than a P320. That is a fact. They have far less variance across their product offerings so tooling changes, assembly capacity, supplier lead times, are all pretty consistent and offer an economy of scale that would be difficult to maintain when you add in our entire classic line, our single action guns, and our rifle production.

This isn't me trying to claim the P320 is a better gun, that's an individual preference thing, but it is more expensive to build. Glock is notorious for bottom dollar contracts. I have heard some pretty low numbers thrown around.

That said, if they looked at adding a manual safety and found it would add significant cost to their current production, that might have driven their bid up. So I could be totally wrong. Just throwing my opinion out there.

I've seen dems and people in general arguing against the whole thing. Regardless, I think the whole system needs to be reviewed under this new administration. Especially these economic migrants, not refugees.

The Army already has a pretty large contract with Glock for several different models, but with no external safeties. I think the main factor was the safety. The Army has spent way more money in recent years on other weapon systems than this one, I don't think that was the deciding factor.

Just because it can be made cheaper, doesn't mean Glock was willing to go cheaper for the contract.

Entirely true, but I have heard some ridiculously low numbers (sub $200) for big enough contracts. At the end of the day they're both great guns. Could have gone either way. I was genuinely surprised we got it after Glock picked up so many other recent contracts.

Looking at the new Viper PST models it seems they're only going to have a FFP option. But I'm completely new to shooting any kind of distance so I'm on the fence on if I should go ahead and spend the extra money now to get a FFP vs buying a SFP then possibly wanting to upgrade later.

The fact that I filed our taxes this morning and know what I'm getting back doesn't help any.

the problem is that people are lumping them all into one category of "immigrants" - the ones that jumped the border or are otherwise herely ILLEGALLY vs the ones that were vetted and waited years to come

edit: I should say one of the problems

First time cleaning and lubing the canik, haven't used it but there is a lot of carbon? It's supposedly new, does all this look normal?

much easier time cocking the gun now, but the slide release is still a bish, I always feel like my finger will get caught between the slide because of how much thumb I need to use to cover the dang slide release and push on it.

I'm telling you, it all boiled down to the external safety.

Whether Glock could have added one or not is irrelevant because they didn't submit one with an external safety while Sig did.

The P320 won because of the external safety. I'd be willing to bet on that.
I just think it's dumb how everyone is up in arms about this, when every president in the last 30 years has banned immigration to some degree similar. I also facepalm at some people who try to tell me the constitution applies to EVERYONE.

Wasn't an external safety one of the main requirements to be considered? Regardless, I don't like them on my guns but it's definitely a good idea for the Army. Can't imagine the amount of NDs that would happen if there was no safety on the new pistol which you know everyone will be playing and waving around with as soon as they come in.

New 870s - junk?

I bought a 590 that ended up having issues with light strikes. Ditching that POS and need a new shotgun.

Mossberg 500 still master race while remington has been sorting out their qc issues for the last decade. Their receivers are still ok though

Might wanna check caniks protocol of handguns that come fresh off the assembly line. They might shoot a whole mag through them. Maybe not and you just bought a used handgun. It will be hard to prove you didn't shoot it yourself to whoever the seller was

Is there any wear on the feed ramp or on the inside part of the slide?

870's are still great. A few cheap upgrades and they are all I personally need in a shotgun.
