Good luck Deadlifting, squatting, benching + a few other exercises all while lifting heavy in a single session.

Generally full body workouts are best for a few months, a year tops, generally half a year, afterwards lower frequency, higher volume like bro splits are recommended
If i did a full body session at anywhere near max output i'd probably end up in hospital and im being dead serious

Your opinion is fine and good. Learning strength training isn't for everyone. Some people would rather have the ripped "lean" look. That doesn't require learning the squat, deadlift and bench press as a noob.

But don't complain when the big brahs make fun of you for squatting like a puss with your half reps and sh!t form lmao.. If you squat at all.

A guy on teen misc made his own version of SS which basically was a higher frequency SS with curls, I found that to be a superior program when I was still on those linear gains.

GOMAD is definitely retarded though, not gonna argue with that.

If you literally know zero about weight training, SS will at least teach you how to program effectively and set goals. I'd rather have high school kids doing SS than the bs I remember doing in the weight room.
This. The point of it isn't to turn into Arnold in 6 months. It's to teach people who know nothing (or little) and have no strength.

Starting strength, imo, is good because it forces noobs to adapt to high intensity workouts and aggressive progressive overload. And they can properly learn how to perform the 3 lifts, which are usually the most technical and 'dangerous' staple lifts in most routines.

If you do it right, noobs won't be on ss for long. Youll start stalling on lifts.

The only two routines I'd recommend a noob is a variation of SS and lyle mcdonalds upper lower. Nothing else is optimal imo.
i got to 350 squat on starting strength

after srsly like 14 weeks of lifting. stronglifts / starting strength is legiit srs just gotta work super hard
to the best!

bench 308

I have a stronger argument than the guy who was doing full body workouts for 3 years who has no gains and says his way is superior.

Basic logic really.

lololol I got to 455 squat on SS. Plenty of people have. My best 5x5 was at 295lbs for bench. SS has a place for a bit, but it is horrible for aesthetics. But you know what's great for aesthetics? Benching 3x8 with 245+ instead of being stuck at 185 because you kept doing bro splits. That being said, it does put you in full trex mode. The lack of accessory work is rediculous, but they restrict that to get you out of the gym in an hour. No newb wants to spend the 80mins+ it takes to hit your shoulders/chest/legs from all angles while incorporating 3 min rests between sets for heavy compounds.

There's a time to switch intensities and it's usually to get through plateaus. If you can't see that then I doubt you've lifted for over a year.

I dont ever remember seeing it recommended for people who want aesthetics even though I think noobs should run it first for a few weeks.

Its not made for that, its there to learn the basic big lifts and build a solid base of strength until you run off into your PPL/Bro splits. You'll have a harder time with more complex routines if you are weak as chit.

Oh and Rip is a strength coach. I wouldnt take his dieting advice to heart.

Yup. But I'd say more like a 250lb squat and 175lb bench. So size 38 straight leg jeans and a size Medium tee body. Sickening.

I think that most new lifters would get closer to where they want to be aesthetically with less squats, more bench and shoulder exercises and abs and arm accessories, Aka not Starting Strength.

Literal LOL at those SS pics...

In all seriousness, I ran SS for a while to get back into powerlifting after I basically destroyed my shoulder lifting way too heavy. It was very effective in helping with form. Ran Rip's Texas Method after that, then plateaued, then scrapped all that after I blew my knee out and now just do bro splits and a lot of stair climber to make up for the lack of squatting.

SS is boring as ****, but squatting four plates for sets definitely makes you feel like you're accomplishing something in the gym. As far as aesthetic goes, I'm natty so I'm gonna look like chit no matter what I do, might as well just be strong.

Terrible.

Lack of volume, lack of frequency (minus squats which is the only body part that sees any gains) lack of accessory movements.

Absolutely harm.
A young bull and an old bull were standing atop a hill looking at a bunch of heifers in a field below.

The young bull says "Let's run down this hill and fuk one of those heifers."

The old bull replies "No. Let's walk down there, and fuk them all."

Maybe I'm a potato.... but I've gotten pretty strong.. 1400lbs total.

I've never run starting strength etc..

ISN'T LINEAR PROGRESSION LINEAR PROGRESSION!????

There's no magic fuking line where stronger doesn't equal bigger muscles, sure there's more CNS recruitment and such, but unless you're squatting and deadlifting 550+ on the regular, that's not something to worry about.

It doesn't just magically "turn off' building for strength after 5/8/10 reps lol.

fuking lol

Listen, if you don't want marshawn lynch proportions, just cut back on the squats and dead and do more cardio/tire flips/rowing etc..

Plenty of strong dudes look like ****, or don't even look like they lift really. A 3 day a week full body routine kills SS when it comes to being aesthetic, and would probably lead to better overall strength gains (provided adequate nutrition) as well.

I've been working out for 6 years now and I'm now 21. Lol my dumbass at 14 actually followed the program for a year and a half. I did get stronger I suppose but I also looked like chit. I followed GOMAD diet and I became obese. Over the years I found you gotta learn how to create your own programming that fits your needs.

I swear these mainstream workout programs were designed to make people look like chit. The experts won't give you their real knowledge because they want to keep the competition down. Also you have to have an adequate understanding of how diets and "supplements" can aid your programing.

He's claimed that you can gain nearly three pounds of muscle per week by doing his cookie cutter program with some milk to wash it down.

http://startingstrength.com/article/the_novice_effect

Only genetic freaks like Kevin Levrone on a ton of drugs can make rapid gains like that, yet he claims it very casually like it's nothing special.
