Plus, people form little echo chambers online and in person. It's why my lefty friends were utterly stunned when Trump won and Hanson got in. "But nobody Iknow..." And these guys will be just as stunned if he loses. "But nobody Iknow..." Or they'll insist it was a conspiracy or something.
bb.com just happens to be an echo chamber occupied by well-off young guys living with their parents. "Nobody never gave me nothin'!" So it swings right, like that other guy who got given lots by his parents but claimed to be self-made. These ones probably have "flat feet", too.
*shrug*
They're not all like this. It's a different country, for sure, but you're not seeing the best of it here on bb.com.

i've said the same thing for a while now - there are smart americans and dumb americans, same as anywhere else. just that america has loud idiots.

Don't they pledge allegiance to the flag each day at school? That seems extremely indoctrinating to me, in Europe teachers and people in general mock our country (Belgium) and often speak very lowly of it.
But there exists something like banal nationalism. Muricans might now even notice how much nationalistic elements are present in their society as they are so used to it.

Nationalism and patriotism spring up when people experience a lack of identity. This is why America has such strong patriotism: ever since its inception it has been a cultural mix, compounded by the fact that many of those who migrated were disillusioned or felt rejected at their country of origin. These people tried really hard to identify as Americans to give themselves a place in the world that felt like their own.
The same forces are at work in Europe now due to the migrant influx. Nationals are valuing their roots more because they feel their cultural identity is under threat. Therefore nationalism is on the rise.
Belgium has weak nationalism because Belgian culture is rich and deep and citizens easily identify with it.

I don't think it's actually like this in real life. Yes, most people have a sense of pride in a very developed, fortunate country that's safe and gives us plenty of opportunity, but it's probably not at all what you'd see in movies or some stereotypes. Sure, those types of people exist but most of the time when you see those over-patriotic Americans, it's because it's a sarcastic joke.
In real life, 95% or greater of the people here are just completely normal. They work, try to create families, are mature and normal. You have to remember, the crazy minority always gets the views and attention. Same applies here.
There's nothing abnormal or different about the DNA of those in the US, that would be pretty impossible if you understand genetics. There's nothing taught in school other than "be thankful for our great country" etc.
Mostly, it's just the idiots who believe stereotypes that believe this 'overly patriotic' stuff about the US.
Last point, the US is attacked more socially if that makes sense, so it causes more people to be forced to defend their country (US) therefore coming across more patriotic but usually it's just defensive. For whatever reason I can't understand, there is a GIANT movement of self hating people in the US, it's like a mini-culture to hate your race and your country trying to seem cool and make yourself feel superior, however that works. Half the anti-US hate actually comes from Americans... Honesty it's just our media. Our economic structure has made media all for profit, and media found out years ago (because of how developed we are) that making you angry is the best source of attention, and attention = money. So, our media is out of control and causes most the problems we have. Intentionally. They're getting rich.
/serious breakdown of our issues, back to the normal misc.

Indoctrination. What other country in the world has it's children put their hands over their hearts in front of their national flag and sing the national anthem?
Ain't never happened to me in England, which is probably why everyone I know thinks it's a chithole.
The best chithole tho.

Belgium is the result of 300 years of being a main battleground in Europe and being flung from one empire to the next. USA is what settles in the bottom of the jar when you put random amounts of all different European cultures in a blender, with some African spices for flavor. Is one better than the other? I don't know. But at least you can try to acknowledge how each came to be, and why one is far more patriotic than the other. Why the citizens of one see a high standard of living as something which is rooted in national identity, and citizens of the other think prosperity has nothing to do with the flag you fly.

When you're born in America the play they national anthem and swaddle you in a red, white, and blue diaper then doctor reads the Declaration of Independence.
Edit: Hnnng at some of these videos. The National Anthem really is an excellent song.
Edit 2: In all seriousness, it's fun to poke at America because of our patriotism and all the weird people who make up our country; however, everyone knows that America will come to their aid if the **** really hits the fan.

Because 'they' brainwash the population into thinking their country is the greatest in world and that it stands for freedom and democracy, when in fact USA is the most corrupt and evil nation on the planet, swiftly followed by china.

Since 4 years old. Hand covering heart, standing facing the flag, spoken in classroom unison everyday of your school age life from 4 years old to basically 14.
"I pledge allegiance, to the flag, of the United States of America.
and to the Republic, for which it stands.
One nation. Under God. Indivisible(lulz). With liberty and justice for all"
CAWWWWWWWWWWWWW don't that sht just make you wanna go rain down some freedom on some unsuspecting third-world country?
