It probably says 8.6 because 90% of his usage is in the lower cheap tiers. If he added on rigs it would all be in the 1001+ tier which looks like .095 + the delivery fee of .03xx. I cant see the pic anymore for some reason

I can't see his pic from his post but you fixed it. But damn! That's a cheap rate for the 1st 1000kwh.
But on topic, he should still be using $0.128/kwh because if he start mining, his consumption will always reach Tier 3 for everything in excess of 1000kwh. So he will be paying $0.0924/kwh for energy use and $0.0357/kwh for power delivery which is $0.128/kwh roughly in total.

They use PCIE Risers like thishttps://www.amazon.com/6-Pack-PCI-E-...8d4a60e310528b

So the cards sits up away from the motherboard attached to the riser board, then its connected to the mobo through the USB connected to a 1x pcie. You then have your regular power running the the GPU aswell as powering the riser board with a molex direct from PSU. All the risers come with molex/sata adaptors but ive heard people say those adaptors are **** and thats too much power to run through the sata connectors especially when a PSU cable usually has 4 in 1 cable.

60 mh/s might be a little high for that combo. I think a 1080ti is only around 35? and im sure a 780 isnt too high. The reason everyone is buying up 470/480s is because you can get them around 30 and they use a hell of a lot less power than something like a 1080ti. Nvidia cards are better for other coins though I would maybe do some research on DGB, I heard of people claiming like $10/day on one 1080ti with that coin but I havent looked into it.

There's not a lot of records for Nvidia cards but from this site, the highest for Zotac 1080 (non TI) is 31 MH/s.

http://www.mininghwcomparison.com/li...p?brand=nvidia

Also you have to put 0.128 as the rate not the 12.8.

So I tried putting your values assuming you'll consume 700kw monthly on your rig which I think you wont.
It's giving $98/mo net profit.

Well it's for gaming only, so I don't see a more expensive 6 core doing me much good when most of the industry is still on 1-2 cores hence the reason I am not going with ryzen. Tbh it's more a new platform I want my i5 4670k is not that bad, but my poor msi gaming board and 8gb of 1866mhz is showing it's age.

Average OC of the 6700k vs the 7700k, what am I looking at.

I'm thinking the lower end Thread Rippers may be around the same price for significantly more cores. That said, the "per core" performance of the 7700k is pretty solid so if you don't feel like waiting, have at it.

That isn't much. If I get into mining I am building a separate rig. I would even build a custom rack so the components will be out in the open and not in an enclosure/case.

A lot of games now especially dx12 games are actually using up to 6 cores already. Then the advantage in gaming stops from there.
Sweet spot is 4-6 cores at this point. But there are Ryzens 6 cores that are cheaper than Intel's 4 cores. That's the reason why we always try to recommend checking AMD Ryzen too.

R5 1600 is only $219 in Amazon while 7700k is $330. 6700K is also still about $320.

Ya my build is M5/Pro carbon, G4400, 8GB DDR4, 60GB SSD, 1200W PSU, a power swtich and then obviously however many GPUs + PCIE risers you need. I just use the keyboard/mouse off my main computer when I want to mess with something but I have teamviewer installed on the system too so I can peep on it with my phone if I feel like seeing the GPU temps and what not. I will eventually probably throw it in my garage but for now its on a table next to my gaming PC and its pretty dam toasty in that room with it running next to me. I might think of leaving it inside during the winter its a pretty solid heater

I built one of these it was pretty cheap/easy to do.

So I'm sure its been running since the time you started right? So what if something happen and you need to run the command in the command prompt again? You just Team Viewer to run it and initialize from your main rig too?

So back to the rig setup, does your board recognize all your 6 cards as just 1 card because of the riser board? I assume it doesnt consume all the PCI lanes right? Because that CPU should not have enough PCI lanes for 6 cards.

I can use teamviewer to do whatever I want on the computer as long as the cards didnt crash and lock it up from being overclocked to much or something. You change a few settings in bios but it recognizes all the cards when i go to device manager.

I didnt have to flash my bios I just started at the part where he changes a few settings. I dont even know what most of them mean I just followed directions and figured it out.

Yeah thats my intention too in the long run once the 470s are back in stock. But for now I'll use my rig to test since my GPU is getting decent hashrate anyway. Kinda like equivalent to 2x480 or 2x290.

Nice link! If only those GPUs are back in stock. I guess I have to start fabricating the custom rack to start.

Just a heads up but ETH is eventually switching to POS (proof of stake) which means no more mining. No one knows for sure when they are going to switch over but they say it could be by the end of this year. There will always be other coins though so Im just trying to get as much as I can now and switch to something else when the time comes. Im not too worried because at this current rate I should hopefully have my money back in only a few months and then its just profit from there aswell as having all these components to sell if I wanted. Thats one of the reason Im putting together a 1070 rig right now because they are about even on ETH with the 470/480 but better with other coins that maybe Id mine in the future.

Couldn't stomach paying £400-£500 to get slightly less single core performance than my 4+ year old i5. If ryzen had better core to core performance and could OC to 4.4ghz+ to keep up with intel I would be ALL over it. Though it is tempting to get the best ryzen motherboard and the 1600x and then wait for the next revision in a year and pop that in.

So from that link posted above. Running seven 470s will roughly get 195 mh/s. So in order to get 1000 mh/s I would need 35 video cards?

Sounds about right a 470/480 is good for 26-32 mh/s depending on overclock settings and the brand of memory. I have 4 that are samsung memory that I am getting 30.5 out of currently and then ones with hynix that I cant get over 29. The 470 is also hynix and I can only get about 27 out of that one before it crashes. I somehow got almost 32 out of the samsung ones on my gaming rig testing them out 1 by 1 but for some reason they are running a hair slower in my mining rig Im not sure why.

I think a 7 gpu rig is more complicated to setup but im not really sure. It seems like everyone is doing 6 GPU's so I just rolled with that.

Does the CPU bottle neck your gfx card when you run lower settings and just max out FPS? I usually play OW at only 1080p and if I run lower setting with uncapped my 1080 only sees around 200 or so. I played some games with the 470 for my mining rig and it was just as high. I swear the FPS might of been even higher than my 1080. I should of tried one out on LoL too to compare aswell. I have an i5 6600k

Basically they're a measure of available bandwidth. GPU's (video cards) require a minimum of x8 lanes, and to run at full speed x16 (though x8 is still pretty much full speed, as they don't fully utilize a full x16 slot yet). Sound cards usually use a single lane. NVME drives (new generation SSD's) use x4 lanes.

So, if you wanted to run dual GPU's for example in SLI or Crossfire, you'd need a minimum of 16 lanes (to run the cards in x8/x8), but then you'd be out and have no more for a sound card or NVME drive (or whatever other devices you may be trying to use internally in your system that require PCI Express lanes). More lanes = more device configuration possibilities. My CPU for example is an i7 5930k with 40 lanes. I can run both of my GPU's at x16, and still have 8 lanes leftover. 4 goes to my NVME drive, and 1 goes to my sound card.

Question for those with build experience..

Is it possible to build any sort of gaming rid for under $400 without any peripherals (monitor, kbm, etc)?

I have a buddy who wants to get started, but refuses to pay more than what a gaming system would cost, although he accepts that like a tv is separate, a monitor kbm and all that are separate too. So just a base build to run some really simple games (DotA, Diablo 3, War/Starcraft, etc) is all I really need. He isn't looking to max out Witcher 3 or anything like that. Also doesn't need an SSD or anything fancy. Just a real basic build for <$400 and without the OS (I'll get one off reddit). PC doesn't have to last long or be future proof in any way, as he said he'll drop more on a legit gaming rid if he enjoys it.

Possible? Yeah. It'd be very basic though.

That's quite a hard budget.
By throwing in more disks you're going to make it harder for the kid to understand what's happening if he is installing something. Of source the SSD could be changed out with a cheaper one, but I don't think that's where you should save, but given that he's used to an iPad, 128gb hdd might be enough.
You get lots of 128gb SSDs around 52-60 usd.
Cut the SSD down to a 128GB one (of another cheaper brand) and you are @400 bucks.

Fully aware of that, but some people are stubborn as hell. I told him he's basically wasting $400 since nothing he buys will be worth transferring to a new CPU, but whatever.

That looks pretty good, and this would be enough to run the most basic of games like simple mobas etc?

Yeh.
That's the best gaming hardware you get for $400.

The loot system is stupid as fukc. The rare drop items are almost impossible to get, yet somehow certain people get like 10 an hour (pretty sure hacking is going on). For example, the Ogre Ring is almost impossible to get even 1, yet there are people with +4 or even +5 Ogre Rings. To get that, you have to combine 2 rings for each +. So, to get a +5 ring, you'd need a minimum of 5 rings, but the % chance to succeed gets crappier with each upgrade, and it's crappy to begin with. It should not even be possible (or so close to impossible as to be indiscernible) to get a +5 Ogre Ring, yet I've seen plenty of them on the market (or +3's and 4's, which are still stupid). These items are basically god items which give you huge AP bonuses, and the price for one on the market? About 2.5 Billion silver (an equally insurmountable task to acquire as the ring itself). The same goes for a lot of other items. Even the Witches' earrings, which aren't nearly as rare as the Ogre ring still takes hours and hours of farming to get even 1. I farmed for about 20 hours and got 1. I had to buy the other one for ~8 million silver because looting them was basically impossible. Yet, I see the same people (you get a notification on the top of the screen when someone in your area loots a rare item) getting like 10 an hour.

Because certain players are clearly cheating via this looting of extremely rare **** and combining it into even more rare ****, that gives them insane stats. It totally unbalances PVP, and makes some players basically impossible to kill (if someone's DP is significantly higher than your AP, you can't hurt them). 2 friends of mine, and myself all quit the game because of this nonsense.
