I experimented about 10 times increasing my fat intake to 50-60g. Every single time I feel worse than before immediately, very weird.
I eat steamed & ground down wheat flakes in a shake if I do not have enough time to eat food using chewing.
I want to cut down on protein intake though, I feel better at 100-150g daily rather than 200g. Social situations put me in the position of eating chit I do not always want though. I also take in too much skim milk, need to lower it for sure. I am much calmer mentally aswell on a lower protein intake.
How much calories do you take in daily? If I go below 4000 kcal daily I am hungry a lot and I start losing weight very slowly, while I am already very lean.

It's kinda like protein is for building muscle and repairing muscle and not directly used for energy...
But then again, it seems that the majority of the misc is fine with being the size of a highschooler (sub 225lbs) so protein intake really won't matter that much then.

Mike Mentzer did a nutrition book back in the day and pointed out some things
Now I'm going way back here trying to remember but iirc the thing I found interesting in the book is that muscle is mostly water (~70%), only 20% protein and for most people its prob only 20 pounds
So all that muscle your building throughout your lifting career is mostly water. And most of those 100s of pounds of protein are going in the toilet.
One thing I wasn't sure about tho;
Is that when you train theres micro damage to muscle, so are you in deficit? And some of the protein you consume repairs that then anything added on top of that is 'gains'?
Any biochemistry brahs that can crunch the numbers for us and tell us how much protein is being used for repair of trained muscles?

I too am becoming convinced that very high protein intake on a bulk is unnecessary. But when cutting, especially on an aggressive deficit, I would keep protein fairly high. Lyle McDonald talks about this frequently.
Interesting reads:
http://www.bodyrecomposition.com/fat...eting-qa.html/
http://www.bodyrecomposition.com/nut...you-need.html/
So I agree with the OP except that I wouldn't go as low as 50 grams though.
Since May this year I've been on my first bulk ever after losing a ton of weight (see signature). All this time it's been high protein and it's going great, but I'll change it up soon and replace a big chunk of it with carbs.

in OP
dropped to 50g protein at the endof a previous cut for about 6 weeks....noticed nothing differed...IF i did lose any muscle it wasnt anymore than other cuts Ive dont and I gain it back like a week into my gaining phase.
I aim for ~80g protein but dont stress if Im under or over anymore

Fck brah, carbs are the devil for me bc they bloat me the fck up. Haven't taken in more than 200g carbs/day consistently in almost a year and I've had abs since last christmas srs. Have gone up to 100-120g fat per day while bulking and carb cycling with protein somewhat high and gotten great results.

What do you expect to see?
If you havent at all day and eat carbs you'll feel good instantly, however muscle building is a slow process that takes years
That doesnt mean eat 300g of protein

I think protein intake has more of a long term effect on the muscles as opposed to how carbs affect the body. The average person can gain what, 10-12lb of muscle per year? How many lb of fat can you gain per year? A lot more then that....
Bottom line is in order to have full grasp on a low protein diet on your body and how it affects muscle gain/recovery you'd probably need to meticulously track everything for about a year.
So try the low protein for at least 6 months and see where your at from there.

Or do they refer to protein-exclusive foods like meat etc.? I do not understand how people eat only 50g protein a day? Doesn't just eating grains put you over 50g already at like 3000 kcal?
(Just looking to clarify the above to avoid confusion.)
(Just looking to clarify the above to avoid confusion.)
My preferred protein intake is around 150-185g for the day. Mainly because I enjoy eating meat (no homo) more so then carbs or even fats. I've tried low carb and low fat. I tend to perform and feel best with a balanced diet. 60G of fat is fine. 150-200G of carbs is fine.
Processed foods tend to have really chitty macro's in general. Low protein. High carb. High fat. This is the main thing that kept fukking me over and a lot of other Americans as well.

I eat decent amount of fruits, but vegetables only mostly the high calorie ones (tubers/roots).
Every fat had bad effect on me, but to my suprise the supposedly "worst" fat healthwise, (poly unsaturated from fried rapeseed/sunflower oil (aka: the "fast food frying"), lead to the least decrease in my energy levels. I cannot explain exactly why this is. I talked to a Chinese scientist about it (who also eats like this) and his hypothesis was that PUFA's (despite possibly being unhealthy) affect glucose metabolism less see his reply below:
"I have claimed that MUFA and PUFA do not produce as much of this carbohydrate disrupting effect (based on their ability to allow forward flow mitochondrial ECT, and continued function of insulin).
eg: Saturated fat can destroy insulin signalling in even doses of 15 grams, whereas the clinicians I mentioned earlier were using PUFA doses of sometimes 40 grams".
Regarding how much fiber I get a day, I am not sure exactly. But 100g+ easily. I snack a lot on dried figs and eat tons of grains.

Basically OP, what you're starting to realize is that almost the entire supplement industry is a scam. If not complete lies and myths, they always make greatly exaggerated claims.
The prime example of this in the lifting supplementts industry is that you need protein for muscle recovery (which you do), but the supp companies always exaggerate what your intake supposedly needs to be by 2-3x more than what it actually needs to be at. Plus, they always try to act like there's something magical about their brand of protein powder, when the reality is that it's inferior to whole foods if anything and is all about convenience at best.
Sometimes I wonder if a decade from now they'll come out with evidence that the protein powders supp companies peddle have all been sawdust or some garbage all along. Even in the best case scenario, it isn't necessary, and you don't need to put a ton of thought into your protein intake regardless.

I havnt noticed any effects tbh .. But I think I eat probably around 100g minimum protein at least.
I do think sleep has a big effect ... I feel noticeably slower and more lethagic if I dont get enough sleep. Recovery also seems to be tied into carbs ... I feel a lot better if I get higher carbs in, but with low carbs, the next day i feel like chit lol.
My diet and nutrition sucks tho .... Wish I could just pay someone to cook all my meals, make sure i'm eating right because i have the lifting part down, but my eating stinks lol.

There was a thread about this last week I think.
I shared my view that protein is way overrated. I think carbs > fats > protein for overall health and gains.
Not eating carbs makes you lethargic, moody and forces you to think about buying pre and post workout supps.

When I eat healthy fats, I stay full for longer and have less inflammation.

So if carbs and fats have a positive effect on my life and protein is doing so little in comparison, why am I wasting so many of my calories on it?
New macros are 60g fat, 400g carbs, 50g protein. We're always told high protein because of all of this research, but has anyone tried anything like this?

What I do agree with is the fact that they average gym goer serious about weight lifting probably ingests way too much. The supp industry is fuking horsechit for the most part.
