sitting at a table while your wife talks about how she's been in her sister's shadow her whole life and just wants her mom to see her true inherent value

vs

sitting at the rack with your squad getting yucky while some 9/10 spreads her pussy and spins on a pole

which do you think is really going to be healthier mentally?

being single isn't the same as being lonely

LMAO yes, if you wanted to be less morbid of course

Those contribute to longevity and the opposite is probably true as well, so they basically work hand-in-hand.

Should also be noted that people need those things (socialization, affection, etc.) in varying degrees, so for some they need X amount, others need Y amount.

You also need to figure out what your goals ultimately are in life, and proper balance of all those aforementioned factors + working towards those goals things for you as in idividual.

That's why having faith, being self aware, and open minded are also critical to ones' growth cause self awareness allows you to figure out things that are wrong, and being open minded allows you to take in information conducive to improving those problems, faith/stubbornness/tenacity help you put that knowledge into action, until one day you're the person you intended to be

Shouldn't be a surprise to anyone considering that we're highly social animals, even when compared to other apes. There's an evolutionary biologist who once pointed out that despite how social chimps are, if you packed a bunch of unrelated chimps in an enclosed space like a plane, they'd end up tearing each other apart. We evolved to live in groups.

The problem has been greatly exacerbated by the breakdown of the family, especially in the West. First it was the breakdown of the extended family. Human beings have been living with their extended families for almost the entirety of their existence, and this has changed only very recently. And even more recently in the last few decades, there has been the breakdown of even the nuclear family. And what do you have to replace it? Television, Netflix, porn, superhero movies, Tinder, video games. All things that can be bought and consumed. All just distractions.

It is messing me up mentally. I don't even know who i am anymore because i don't talk to people. I used to have a personality, but i've completely lost my social skills and have bad anxiety now. My self esteem has taken a major hit too. It's crazy what isolating does to a person.

There are two ways to avoid loneliness:
  • Contribute and matter. That's what you'll get a sense of belonging from. Because even if you're introverted, when you do decide to socialize, other people will still reciprocate because they'll value you. That's actually a great way to build your confidence and your independence. If you build those emotional muscles, you won't need constant validation and the group's approval to feel good about yourself and your decisions. But the key is to eventually come out from the cold. No one can be independent forever.
  • Be vulnerable. Vulnerable people show their flaws. People who don't try to be perfect are more relatable. People who are more relatable are more likable. That equation leads to deeper connections. Those are the most rewarding relationships. The kind that can touch your soul and make you feel whole for many years, just by having experienced true friendship and true love, which is extremely rare in our superficial world.

I'm not suggesting that you have to be some sort of social butterfly... but if you're a shut-in for years on end it's very likely that there's something wrong.
I'm most comfortable being alone, I can be social at times but it is draining - people just need different levels of social interaction IMO. Some people are just built that way bro, it's nothing to be ashamed of. I had that mentality for years that there was something 'wrong' with me because I didn't want to be social 24/7 and talk about inane ****.

I would prefer to read a book and learn something, as opposed to partake in trivial bull**** just so I don't feel lonely. If that means I have psychological issues, so be it.

Yeah, there's nothing wrong with it, but you would still have a better time and generally be better off if you found other people who shared your interests. If your only choice of people to socialize with are basic biitches, upgrade lol

Yes I feel like the longer I'm alone the harder it is to climb out of it. Feels like I'll be alone forever at this point.
Damn, you're like the female version of me. My ex left because i wouldn't want to hang out with her friends, but i would come home exhausted after work. Now i feel lonely because i lost all my friends (my fault, didnt keep in touch) now gf.

Perhaps were misunderstanding one another because I have no problem with what you just said there ^^^^.... probably because I'm very similar in that regard.

That being said, I still have some friends that I talk to on a regular basis and I'll get some enjoyment out of bullchitting with people at work.

I'm not a big party person either and have always been an avid reader... but that doesn't mean that I want to spend the rest of my life alone. Ideally I'll find a woman who's more of a homebody type too and we can chill and travel together. That's more of what I was talking about. Not everyone has to be throwing parties at their place every weekend and entertaining.... but if you have no desire to even share experiences or have a serious connection with even ONE other person... that's a problem imo.

Yeah suicide is a major problem for men and though I don't know what the latest research in this field says I would wager that social isolation, feeling of rejection etc. play a huge role in it for a lot of men. I feel like women don't experience those issues as much or as significantly and they have better avenues for dealing with it than men if they do. Being lonely or isolated as a young male can be a seriously harsh sentence.

    Video games? Lol.

It is because unless you haveabove averagelooks, an unbelievable personality, a 6-figure salary or are famous you cannot have companionship from women. You have to have at least one of those four things. Otherwise, you are ****ed.

Sure you might get some fat chick to like you but that is almost worse than being alone.

It sounds like you're introverted. You may be interested in the bookQuiet: the power of introverts in a world that won't stop talking. In that the authour makes the interesting point that introverts tend to go for fewer but more intimate relationships, while extroverts go for more but shallower relationships. But they all need someone, it's just a matter of how much and when.

Intimacy can be had without regular proximity, of course.

We are definitely speaking at cross purposes bro. Being connected with the people and the world around you is one of the most important things to do in life. I was probably taking it to the extreme with my example just to make a point - I am similar to you it sounds like, I prefer a small number of high quality relationships over 100s of acquaintances.

I just hate the herd mentality that 99% of people seem to have - following people blindly just to fit in is encouraged, while taking time for introspection and being alone is highly discouraged by society (that's the way I see it anyway).

Maybe it is hardwired into us to be social for social's sake, because there is safety in numbers. But, there is a lot to be said for being alone and getting comfortable in your own company.

The main reason I got my dog. I was lonely and depressed everyday. Now I wake up every morning with a smile.

You sure as hell aren't gonna improve any of those if you never leave your cheeto-stained DXracer

I feel the same way. Though, as odd as it may sound, I've been happiest when I was surrounding by antisocial friends. The type who felt the exact same way I did. And a couple who felt the exact opposite.
