Thumbhole stocks on a semi auto are illegal in NY. Thats why the above is not connected - in order to keep it compliant

edit: A pistol grip on a semi auto is illegal as well

I know it's beating a dead horse on dumb gun laws; so simply cutting an open channel on the back makes it legal? I understand the pistol grip is a no-go, but utilizing a traditional hunting grip with a thumbhole is a no-go as well is ...UGH!

Most "safes" are just RSC, (residential storage containers), Liberty, Browning, Cannon....all pretty much 11 or 10 ga steel at best. That recent referendum that you probably didn't vote on made bullet button ARs illegal in CA. Basically you have to get a featureless AR, which means that you'd need a different lower.

Not really. You can get a "featureless" lower that prevents you from putting your thumb around the pistol grip. It's pretty disgusting.
