I wish that was the only problem i have."Introversion" and "extroversion" does not exist. Willingness to socialize is expressed on a continuum, with most people falling under the definition of "ampivert". Introversion is the new "look at me, look at how special I am, give me attention" phrase. Many self proclaimed introverts suffer from issues associated with social anxiety. You aren't introverted, you are socially anxious, and there is help available.
A majority of you who are "lonely" or sad because you are single are unhappy with your lives. A relationship, an S/O, or a spouse, should not make you happy. You've watched too many chick flicks. Getting into a relationship, or staying in a relationship, because the other person makes you happy is asking for codependency problems.
A normal, healthy relationship is one in which both people are independent and happy without each other. When together, they enhance each other's lives through compatibility.
Please, become happy before you enter in a relationship with someone else. It's not fair on them, and it's not their responsibility to make you happy. It's your responsibility to make yourself happy. Live for yourself.

If someone wants to overcome loneliness (as I plan to) I think it's better to develop social hobbies and a social circle, rather than looking for a romantic relationship.
I also think it's better to frame creating positive connections as meeting a need, rather than 'looking for someone to make you happy'. The need is independent of the person.
Tony Robbins here presents a practical model of human needs. (Practical meaning that's easy to identify your which needs of yours aren't being met)
1 Certainty/Predictability.
2 Uncertainty/Variety.
3 Significance.
4 Love/Connection.
5 Growth.
6 Positive contribution.

Ya there are a few people who I used to be really close to and I don't really talk to them anymore. Sometimes you think about those people and wonder what happened. I'll probably reach out at some point.

They need to mimic a substance like nicotine, because it makes you social no matter who you are. It would solve everyone's problems.

i am introverted and have social anxiety they are not mutually exclusive. in saying that my anxiety does hinder the part of me that does want me social connections however as an introvert I still need me time to 'recharge'

It takes two to tango. IF you are lonely then find someone. If you are in an abusive relationship than leave. You alone are in control here. Only you can make yourself go outside and meet people. Only you can change your habits and become constructive. Do what is best for you, even if it kills you, but do not forget about others.
