Mayweather has brittle hands, no? Put it this way, if you're getting paid $300 million to give an exhibition of your skills and you get paid precisely $0 extra for a KO, are you going to risk fracturing your hands or are you going to stick to winning without breaking anything?

There would have been a big stakeholder meeting months before the fight where everyone laid out what they wanted:
-Floyd just wanted to get paid
-Conor wanted a shot, the publicity and to also get paid
-The UFC didn't want Conor embarrassed but accepted he would lose
-Boxing wanted Floyd to win
-The MGM grand wanted a good fight that would leave fans pumped up and ready to gamble afterwards
-Showtime wanted it long enough so people didn't feel miffed having bought PPV

All of those outcomes were achieved with a Round 10 TKO. The whole thing was about as real as Wrestlemania. Floyd could have ended it whenever he wanted.

it was pretty crazy how floyd took several clean hits to the head and wasnt even wobbled.

really makes you think that mma fighters just have weaker chins?

in b4 it would have been a KO in mma gloves.
The training is nothing, the will is everything. The will to act.

Will not argue with this (especially because I too have been saying Floyd could have ended it whenever he wanted in several threads). Some of it seems likely. Would not be surprised.

This is all I could think the whole way through. We all know mayweather was gonna win. We all know he likes to tire out his opponents in the first few rounds. We all know that he probs could of taken connor down in the first few rounds anyway just due to the mismatch at the very least taken him down in the 6th. But if he did that connor would lose rep in UFC.

The fight was about everything you listed. The whole thing was a money making sham.

Yeah sorry, not suggesting you didn't think Mayweather was in control. Was more addressing the notion that there is more than one way to fix a fight. In this case, the outcome wasn't a variable, but basically everything else was and it was set to extract maximum dollars and satisfaction.

stfu you nut hugger. Connor shouldn't get the participation medal praise because he talked so much trash before the fight, saying he's the king of boxing, saying that he would break mayweathers tiny skull when infact his performance was nothing short of an embarrassment. He doesn't know how to box period. He was arm punching the whole fight and doesn't know how to throw a punch correctly for shiit. Mayweather had zero respect for mcgregors punching power which is why he was basically chased McGregor the whole fight and pretty much disregarded his defense. He is just lucky he was fighting a 40 year old retired fighter. Have this fight 4 years ago and McGregor would have left the fight brain damaged.

The irony was that Connor was protected taking on Mayweather who hadnt boxed in 2 years, brittle hands and hadnt knocked out anyone in 9 years, a defensive fighter and not a guy who comes forward and is much smaller.
Had he fought a seek and destroy champion like Errol Spence who is a knockout artist, in his prime and much bigger than Floyd than it wouldnt have lasted 5 rounds. Or if Connor fought someone his own size like Canelo or GGG, it would have ended early, perhaps in 2 rounds against GGG.

Connor doesnt have the gas tank nor can he take it to the body, he slaps and quite honestly for a guy his size cant punch at top level.
He did great against Mayweather but its not a true reflection on how he would do against the younger champions today in the sport, so I think he ought to go back to MMA and reign there.

It just looked like Conor wasn't loading up on his punches at all, like he didn't know how to transfer his weight into a punch lol

In MMA, vs Aldo, vs Eddie, vs Nate (in the second fight when he dropped him multiple times) he always used their own momentum against them. His timing was ****ing crazy. But against Floyd, he had no chance to do that at all, Floyd was just never there. His mythical left hand that he swore would get it done in 4 was completely neutralized lol.

I also ****ing cringe at Skip, the guy is such a ****ing weasel lmao

The biggest thing that pissed me off leading up to the fight was when Conor was criticizing GGG and Canelo. I was like dude are you ****ing insane lol

It's always been weird to me that ppl think fights are like the movies.

-I accidentally spill guys drink
-guy says "you bitch! Meet me out back in 5 minutes!!!!"
-we meet up, take shirts off, everyone from the bar piles outside and gathers around with their car head lights pointed in
-we fight for 2-3 rounds

Lol. They start so spontaneously and end so quickly. Mix that with the fact that alcohol is involved. I've said it once I'll say it again:

If you and your buddy are backed into a corner by 3-4 guys and you need to get out, would you rather your MMA buddy be with you who can take ppl to the ground or a boxer? I'm taking a boxer every. Single. Time.

Boxing is a niche sport, it's cringe when people pretend that it translates into real fighting.

If the off chance a boxer JUST SO HAPPENS to run into a trained mma fighter in a bar, they touch gloves and go at it - the mma fighter has an advantage. It never works out like that.

Bar fights are over very very quickly and consist of strikes. Seconds later someone is either knocked out or its broken up. They aren't going to the ground ending in a arm bar or triangle choke lmao. 99.99% of the time you run into someone they, like you, will not have any organized mma or boxing training. They are just regular Joe shmoes. Since I have ~20 years of boxing training, I KNOW I have a massive advantage over just about anyone I come in contact with statistically. If the off chance I run into a mma fighter, I'm hitting him before he gets the chance to take me down. Push me? I'm striking. Walk towards me with fist balled? I'm striking. This isn't "ok meet me out back" take your shirts off and fight lol. It's strike strike get the hell out of there.

You have a lot to learn kiddo. Hopefully you don't get into a fight any time soon
I think the point is that the guy WITH the mma training in the bar fight will have the advantage, just like you said..

Making it - more practical? Yes of course the boxer will have the advantage over the joe schmo but isnt the argument that mma > boxing > joe?

Not even arguing your post I think maybe I'm just missing the point. In all honesty I think these arguments are hilarious and pointless af but I'm more so interested in some of the logic behind posts i read.

noone is throwing leg kicks, submissions and all that other bullchit in a street fight lol. its all about striking. period. by the time an mma fighter took me down the fight would be broken up. he would also have to run through punches to get to that point.

if your main goal going into a sponaneous street fight is "i gotta shoot his legs and take him down!" you will lose.

I completely disagree with this statement, assuming the fighter is trained.

Practically, I can see your point butultimatelythe mma fighter has a better chance to win and I don't see how that can be argued. Not to take away from the realistic scenario you presented though.

But I get more where you're coming from now, thanks.

that's not true

the average person doesn't think about his legs being vulnerable, or knows anything about footwork. assuming you are fighting someone who's never fought before. i've been in that position where my opponent was aiming for the legs, and you bet your ass he ****ed me up, before then i had never fought anyone who went for the legs. didn't have a clue how important leg work was. and i had been in many street fights before then (used to get jumped or ambushed a lot by bullies). he tackled me, i even got him on the side of his head, but the second he dropped me to the ground it was over. he was much heavier than me.

Your own mistakes do not dictate every case. You're talking about footwork which is one of the most important facets of boxing.

You guys swear that once a boxer lays down they begin paralysis lmao. Whenever you guys are getting into an argument you can rely on wrestling and all that other chit. I'm knocking you out and enjoying the rest of my night.

You guys swear that once a boxer lays down they begin paralysis lmao. Whenever you guys are getting into an argument you can rely on wrestling and all that other chit. I'm knocking you out and enjoying the rest of my night.
So with no takedown defense you're knocking out a guy who has immediately taken his head out of the equation.. relinquishing your power on the ground and is now using tools you don't have while throwing punches and elbows?

I just don't see how you warrant this argument. Boxing is practical in a streetfight, I agree. But a trained MMA fighter is beating the boxer every time. With that said, who cares - why does that even bother boxers? Boxing is a fukkin sport.

It's just as annoying to me when MMA fighters say that it's less practical or real bc of that. It's like yea well shooting a ball in a fukkin net doesnt do much for you in the real world either does it?

BUT like I said I'm focused on the logic of argument, not what is "superior". That's going to subjective regardless.

MMA fighters are bum glasschinned failed wrestlers/BJJ with garbage standup that get KOed by random pedestrians on the street LOL. And on bully beatdown. Look up wes episode.

Mcgregor the failed z-level local boxer from ireland is supposed to be the deadliest knockout artist striker with his hands and literally hadmarshmellow pillowfistssaturday vs a smaller 40 yr old defensive boxer with 20 lbs, height, reach, and 11 yrs on him. Got walked down, ran and clinched for his life and still got KO'ed by someone who doesnt KO anyone LOL.

Ex Baseball players, NFL rejects, old retired fat boxers, WWE wrestlers have all KO'ed UFC champions. Fact. LOL.

wtf is this? bahahahahahaha

"B-b-but in a street fight!"- MMA suburb casual 2017

Let me know when a 70 yr old KO kicks/submits a robber with a giant knife lik ex boxers already have. Oh wait u arent kicking/grappling sh*t at 70 years old. Especially not someone with a knife.

Let me know when you KO 4+ opponents on the street with kicks and grappling like ex boxers already have. Oh wait you can't kick or grapple multiple people at once.

So tell me again how is it boxing thats limited in real life street situations LOL?

Last time I checked boxers have already been raised "streetfighting" in the toughest "streets" in the world. The streets of russia, mexico, africa, haiti, brooklyn, philly, PR, eastern europe. Places the average suburb MMA casual would sh*t his pants having to walk through.

Granted I would say wrestling is the next most useful secondary option. The main supplementary side arm of your self defense.

give prime tyson 6 months of takedown defense and he would KO whatever fat bum is currently the heavyweight champ LOL

I typed out a whole response to this but it doesn't even matter Bc you have no idea how fights work lol.

Go watch Holly Holm (a boxer) absolutely destroy Ronda rousey in the octogon. Two athletes in their prime. And a boxer won by punching her face into hamburger meat and then ended it with a kick. Then in Ronda Rousey VERY NEXT FIGHT another pure striker absolutely fukking wrekt her and forced her into retirement.

Striking > the other stuff. Keep your spectulation and guesses. I provided real life examples lmao
