The gym isn't a place to socialize. Nothing wrong with small talk between sets and stuff, but you can fuk off if you're gonna talk to me non-stop for 10 minutes about how your grandma fell down the stairs or how someone dented your car. I'm here to do my work and get out.

If you want to make friends in the gym, talk to people before/after their workout, not when they're trying to get chit done.

This is the thing. People will randomly talk to others there because they are lonely. Then there are the ones that have gone their forever and talk all the time. But most people don't talk at all. Which is good because i want to get my workout done. Just saying a lot of people that go there are probably really cool and chill. I never talk there though because i know people are trying to get their workout in (and so am i)

Jakes on you. Seems like the bigger i get the nicer people are, weird phenomenon right?

I dont give a fk about what people do with their bodies, i just want to look good for myself. Look good, feel good.

If you lift and achieve a respectable physique you will garner respect (and envy) from others because although its an extremely easy hobby in THEORY its a difficult task to follow consistently (hence why obesity rates have hit a new peak at 40%).

Thus, you dont need to look down on any one. People will look UP to YOU and treat you on how you carry yourself, whether its because of what you've attained physically, financially or through fame/status.

agreed

i do look down on really fat people though, a dadbod or a belly isn't something I'd say is at all pathetic, but I've been fat-ish before and I ate like absolute sh-t and a lot too. To get really fat you need to indulge in so much crap for so long it's ridiculous and that IS pathetic.

what I do phuckin hate is insecure *******s that get all weird around people that are in better shape, whether it be passive aggressiveness or dumb ass jokes or nicknames. phuck off bro.

in the end, we lift to raise our sexual value. I lift so I feel good about myself and that one day, someone will compare me to the DYEL BFs of her friends and be happy af I lift.

It isn't like working out is admirable or impressive. If anything it's pathetic. Everyone just has their own biased narcissistic values.

I was thinking of this the other day. Just think how weak the average guy is. It's very feminine to not lift in this day and age. If you don't lift you should at least be a mechanic or something.

I know plenty of women who lift weights. I actually know many more women who lift weights than do real exercise like running or sports (regularly).

Don't get me wrong. I work out and care about my appearance. But weightlifting is not hard and it's not a manly activity.

I'm a better person now that I've started lifting and getting healthy. And not just physically better.

So if lifting can make me a better person when compared to me, why can't it make me better when compared to someone else?

Hey man it's just lifting. It's not some super secret cult that you have to have a certain personality to be a part of. It also doesn't take dedicating "your entire life" to get a 1% physique. Obesity is almost half the population in a place like the USA, and almost everyone else is skinnyfat or just skinny. To get a 1% body in today's world takes like a year of decent programming and diet. People confuse youtube/the misc/their gym with real life, in the real world virtually everyone I see lacks any kind of muscularity.

Yeah this stuff is terrible. It's honestly one of the biggest reasons why I never mention lifting to people that aren't lifters themselves. The social media culture of "being a warrior that attacks the weights!" or those stupid memes that are like "Friday night at my favorite bar" and it's a squat rack are just so damn stupid. It's like people are trying their hardest to say you can't be a "real" lifter/fitness enthusiast without being a self-absorbed cultist with no social life.

This. I never put others down who don’t lift, but there’s a strong relation between body and mental health. Those who don’t exercise are mentally weak in a certain sense

It absolutely makes you a better person compared to yourself.. and that's all it should be, your lifting shouldn't be compared to others. It teaches you discipline. My point is what if someone eats a healthy diet, but just for example their favorite hobby is piano. Even though they're healthy and eat a good diet, there are some douches that look down on them because they're skinny and don't lift. But you don't see them chitting on people cause they're sick at piano and other people aren't. Not being jacked doesn't mean you're unhealthy. No matter how experienced you are in lifting your progress should only be compared to your past progress, and you should understand it's just your hobby and there's other ways you can be healthy
Originally Posted By Doomster23

I agree, that's not the point of the thread though, there's endless ways to be physically active without getting jacked.. basically any outdoor activity. The point of the thread is lifters who chit on non lifters

So do you look at marathon runners as "lazy af" because they're not jacked but still super active and obviously have a good diet? That's the point of the thread (marathon runners just as an example)

Look at the big picture as I replied to other people in this same reply. I'm talking about people who chit on people who aren't jacked/lifters. There's endless ways to be active and healthy without being in the gym. I'm not talking about obese ass people who sit on the couch all day

My only pet peeve is when I seen dudes who are skinny but have that chubby body. Arms just straight and flabby, no definition, it's like an insult to being fit. I'm a lot more non-caring now, but I used to lose all respect for a guy instantly when I seen a body like that, like you're a man with the perfect opportunity to look strong, hit the weights.

I think looking down on others is a bit of an overstatement, but I can't deny that I have way more respect for people that lift, or do any form of strenuous sport and accomplished some sort of high (amateur/hobby) level in it.

Reaching a certain physique/strength requires a tremendous amount of work and dedication, from going the gym, to checking your diet, to prioritising it over other things. I do believe that takes a certain mindset and discipline that a lot of people don't have.

It might be easy to judge others and think "all they need to do is go to the gym 3x per week and watch what they eat". Seems like little effort to someone who loves doing that, but for normcells that doesn't seem like little effort. It's like someone playing guitar looking down on people and saying "lol loser, if you'd just spend 4h every week playing guitar you would be a great player". Compared to how much time I spend on going to the gym, checking my diet etc, 4h per week is nothing, but no way in hell I would make the time for it. All comes down to what your priorities in life are.

I do have to say that prioritising health is a big no-brainer, but unfortunately not many people see it that way.

People are just like this... no matter what the topic, especially on the Internet.
