I knew Benchmark was a BT product but never knew it was made with the same mash bill as BT. I might have to check this out, thanks for the heads up

Like I said, I enjoy whiskey cokes, this stuff is good enough to drink neat but I don't feel bad mixing it.
Man that's so hard to believe, Im not saying you're wrong though. Stagg tastes like a giant, spicy fireball whereas Buffalo Trace is almost too sweet. They seem worlds apart for being the same make up, it's wild to think the aging brings out so many different characteristics.

+1 on the Benchmark Old #8 as a surprisingly decent bourbon based on the ridiculous price. I was using Ancient Age in that department for some time and then availability here for some reason tanked. Had a hard time finding it. Tried the Bechmark on a flyer and it was pretty good, especially as a mixer and it makes very good Old Fashioneds (again--for the price).

When I'm wanting something nicer, I go with a Bulleit or Larceny or next level up I like Breckenridge or Angel's Envy. I'm kind of a cheapskate at my core when it comes to liquor. I enjoy a more expensive, higher-quality experience from time to time but I don't tend to step much higher than those. Starts getting pricey if your frequency goes up.

Do you guys have Elijah Craig Barrel Proof on your shelves near you?

This one escapes me, I have never, EVER seen it in store anywhere in Central Ohio. Seen Blantons, Stagg/Jr, all the High West, JD Sinatra edition, higher end Wild Turkeys - never the EC BP.
Glenfidich 18
Torn between this and the 15 that MrBourbon suggested. Been reading online and a handful of people saying they prefer the 15. Hmm.
Throw in a cheapie $10 wild card bourbon, this Ancient Age is incredible and super cheap. I bet you'll be surprised how it stacks up against spirits 3-4x the price! Only $10.10 here in Ohio for a 750ml!

It's on the sweet side, so I bet most people enjoy it.

[img]https://i.imgur.com/IEfogxZ.jpg[img]
Deep sadness because of the three places I went today, nobody had this. You'd think I'd be able to find it in Indiana being so close to OhioI'll definitely be keeping an eye out for it though and will likely stock up if I find it. Not opposed to the sweet side either
So does it have to be bourbon? If so, I'd add a cheapie - Sloop likes Ancient Age but it's too sweet for me. My "House Bottle" is Benchmark Old #8. It's made by Buffalo Trace distillery using the same mash bill as Buffalo Trace but not aged as long or as well. It's great for mixing at good enough to drink straight, and down here it runs me $17 for 1.75. INSANE value. I drink the good stuff neat but usually mix Benchmark with coke - it's hot here in Florida so that's my go-to.

Otherwise, add an Irish (I like Bushmills but Jameson's the classic) and a scotch or two - probably a Speyside like Glenfiddich and a peaty one like Laphroaig (pronounced La Frog but with an i, froig) or Bruchladdich the Laddie (pronounced Brew Laddie).

For his gift - Glenfiddich 15 and never look back. The 18 is "smooth", the 15 "complex". Both amazing of course - Glenfiddich is my favorite Speyside, and when we toured Scotland all the guys named Glenfiddich the best distillery of the tour.
Appreciate the input, feelsgoodman getting bourbon suggestions from MrBourbon haha. I'll see if I can track down a 1.75 of Benchmark for some mixing and potentially shots. I realized I do have a LOT of bourbon right now so I may actually go grab some Bombay Sapphire (just realized I have no gin in the house) and an Irish whiskey for some variety.

Locking in the Glenfiddich 15 on your strong recommendation.

Could not find Bulleit Barrel Strength, so grabbed these two. Never had Larceny but have heard good things. And I don't know anything about Sexton, will fully admit I bought it for the bottle. We'll see if its worthy, always interested in checking out a new Irish.

Never had Larceny?!

Son I am disappoint.

Larceny is tasty juice, great wheater. A bit of heat up front but after 1 ice cube it really opens up nicely.

For the money I think Wild Turkey 101 is one of the best value bourbons. $19.99 in CA and with coupons I have paid $15.99 for a 750 ml. Easy to find too.

Weller is great but hard to find.

Also just picked up a bottle of this, found it for $19.99 which seemed solid.

Finally found a bottle of Benchmark and definitely a great recommendation. Enjoying with some diet Coke as we speak. Thanks men

^^ on mobile so can't multiquote...

Will definitely be keeping larceny around. Buffalo Trace and Bulleit are still my faves but Buffalo is up to nearly $40 now wtf. Pappy hype is inflating the whole BT line it seems.

Weller is (was?) the best kept secret in bourbon. Been sold out the last 3 times I went.... Hope it doesn't become impossible to find.

Peace: das it fam. Benchmark is a screaming deal. Good enough to sip straight but it's an excellent mixing whiskey. For the price I think there's none better.

Found the OGD 114 yesterday. And the store also carries Bulleit Barrel Strength but I couldn't justify buying a fourth bottle this weekend, I'm already over my fun money budget.

Bros I have a serious problem with my top shelf. It's full! wut do?

found a bottle of this stuff, limited edition, expensive ($110), but based out of the booker's tradition (my favorite)

with the price of it, it's a one pour at a time thing to make it last, but I can say it's delicious

Blade & Bow - heard good things, and it's Solera aged which is how my favorite Scotch (Glenfiddich 15) is aged.
High West - a friend in Texas swears by them. It's easy to get down here, just haven't taken the plunge yet.
Barrel Aged Bulleit - Bulleit is a favorite and the Barrel Aged should improve on it even more. Can't justify $70 on it while my shelf is overflowing.

Is weller the new secret cheapie but goodie? The 'tenders at the local "bourbon room" were raving about it. The old fashioned i had with it was pretty tasty. A little more complex than normal.

And is the Barrel Aged Bulleit good? Saw it at the local shop and was intrigued.

No idea on the Bulleit, it was getting love upthread.

Weller is fukken awful, not worth the money.

Spoiler!
Absolutely terrific wheated bourbon, way better than Makers and half the price. Like $25, 90 proof too.

It's the same mashbill as Pappy Van Winkle, though not aged as long or as well. There's also a Weller 12 year and one above that, too. Haven't tried the top of the line but the 12 is great. The 12 is basically Pappy 12 but aged in less desireable spots in the warehouse, and it's like $30 a bottle. It's a flat out steal if you can find it.

Ill make sure and pour it out when i get it.

Need to start into scotch as well. Just not into tasting pure peat moss. Grew up helping my dad in the yard....

Sitting at a local bar having lunch now, finally getting to try this Elijah Craig barrel proof.

Cot damn it's absolutely delicious.

They have the Elijah Craig 18 year too, but I'll probably pass today. Very tempting....

taking the Bib & Tucker to the tasting tonight for something different

apparently he is planning an Old Forester night later, so I'll save the Statesman for then. He's got a couple nice bottles that I know of, the Birthday bourbon and the 1920
