+1 on the Benchmark Old #8 as a surprisingly decent bourbon based on the ridiculous price. I was using Ancient Age in that department for some time and then availability here for some reason tanked. Had a hard time finding it. Tried the Bechmark on a flyer and it was pretty good, especially as a mixer and it makes very good Old Fashioneds (again--for the price).

When I'm wanting something nicer, I go with a Bulleit or Larceny or next level up I like Breckenridge or Angel's Envy. I'm kind of a cheapskate at my core when it comes to liquor. I enjoy a more expensive, higher-quality experience from time to time but I don't tend to step much higher than those. Starts getting pricey if your frequency goes up.

Do you guys have Elijah Craig Barrel Proof on your shelves near you?

This one escapes me, I have never, EVER seen it in store anywhere in Central Ohio. Seen Blantons, Stagg/Jr, all the High West, JD Sinatra edition, higher end Wild Turkeys - never the EC BP.

Otherwise, add an Irish (I like Bushmills but Jameson's the classic) and a scotch or two - probably a Speyside like Glenfiddich and a peaty one like Laphroaig (pronounced La Frog but with an i, froig) or Bruchladdich the Laddie (pronounced Brew Laddie).

For his gift - Glenfiddich 15 and never look back. The 18 is "smooth", the 15 "complex". I realized I do have a LOT of bourbon right now so I may actually go grab some Bombay Sapphire (just realized I have no gin in the house) and an Irish whiskey for some variety.

Could not find Bulleit Barrel Strength, so grabbed these two. Never had Larceny but have heard good things. And I don't know anything about Sexton, will fully admit I bought it for the bottle. We'll see if its worthy, always interested in checking out a new Irish.

Larceny is tasty juice, great wheater. A bit of heat up front but after 1 ice cube it really opens up nicely.

For the money I think Wild Turkey 101 is one of the best value bourbons. $19.99 in CA and with coupons I have paid $15.99 for a 750 ml. Easy to find too.

Weller is great but hard to find.

Will definitely be keeping larceny around. Buffalo Trace and Bulleit are still my faves but Buffalo is up to nearly $40 now wtf. Pappy hype is inflating the whole BT line it seems.

Weller is (was?) the best kept secret in bourbon. Been sold out the last 3 times I went.... Hope it doesn't become impossible to find.

Peace: das it fam. Benchmark is a screaming deal. Good enough to sip straight but it's an excellent mixing whiskey. For the price I think there's none better.

Found the OGD 114 yesterday. And the store also carries Bulleit Barrel Strength but I couldn't justify buying a fourth bottle this weekend, I'm already over my fun money budget.

found a bottle of this stuff, limited edition, expensive ($110), but based out of the booker's tradition (my favorite)

Blade & Bow - heard good things, and it's Solera aged which is how my favorite Scotch (Glenfiddich 15) is aged.
High West - a friend in Texas swears by them. It's easy to get down here, just haven't taken the plunge yet.
Barrel Aged Bulleit - Bulleit is a favorite and the Barrel Aged should improve on it even more. Can't justify $70 on it while my shelf is overflowing.

Absolutely terrific wheated bourbon, way better than Makers and half the price. Like $25, 90 proof too.

It's the same mashbill as Pappy Van Winkle, though not aged as long or as well. There's also a Weller 12 year and one above that, too. Haven't tried the top of the line but the 12 is great. The 12 is basically Pappy 12 but aged in less desireable spots in the warehouse, and it's like $30 a bottle. It's a flat out steal if you can find it.

Ill make sure and pour it out when i get it.


Need to start into scotch as well. Just not into tasting pure peat moss. Grew up helping my dad in the yard....
