I'm not annoyed that they want sex. I'm annoyed that it would be anywhere close to 90% of what they want, like the entire rest of what comprises a person's personality and character is just worthless.

I tell guys upfront if there is ever a chance of that or not. I have cut guys loose before because I could tell they didn't really want to be friends. If I say no sex/romance and they hang around, I have every right to expect that they actually want to be my friend.

if you are good looking you must get dicks thrown at you daily so you know guys are horny.

Once again, I am sure that they have. I don't care about that, that's normal, men want to stick their dinks in everything that moves. Of course I get dink thrown at me, I live in a major city--I just ignore it because it grosses me out.

I like my friends and it's fine if they have been attracted to me at some point.

I just care if the hope of sex is the only reason they are hanging around me. I don't think I am a special snowflake but I know I have more to offer than that. I try to be a good person and I want that to count for something. That's all.

That's what I find depressing, hedonistic and sad.
Friendship bonds are different between men and women. That's why it's hard to truly be platonic friends. A man's friends are peers who he has shared activities with (school, sports, work, etc.). A woman's friends are peers who give them emotional support (and vice-versa).

Because we are looking for different things from our friends, something else would have to be involved to bring men and women together as friends. Attraction serves this purpose, but also prevents truly platonic friendships.

Something else that's different... men have friends who come and go with no skin off either parties back and no hard feelings. It's not uncommon for men to have good friends we haven't talked to in 5 or 10 years for whatever reason, with no chits given by either side. I have some old friends from school and work like that. However, if women lose close contact with a good friend, it's treated on the same level as losing a romantic relationship. Men don't just invest emotions in our friends. Women can't help but invest emotions in theirs.

The exceptions to these rules are probably the only ones who can have truly platonic friendships.

Unemotional women can probably be friends with men. Overly emotional men can probably be friends with women.
