You realize that in the US, you can still be arrested for defending yourself, right?
The police don't know if it was in "self-defense". As far as they're concerned, you just committed murder.

As long as it is something that once he is cleared the arrest is removed from his record, etc. and there is no reference to him legally if it ever happening.
The concern isn’t for him at 78...what if you’re 23 and this follows you for life?

When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song and die like a hero going home.

Homeowner released on bail.
http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-london-43648896
What's amazing that he was "arrested" on suspicion of murder, and that he had to come up with bail money.
Also that the "accomplice" hasn't come forward, nor has the stolen jewelry as the investigation continues. Surely, for grounds of the being arrested means that the the accomplice who took off during the "incident" is innocent and was simply going to clean the jewelry for the old gent and was planning on returning it.
The friendly bloke who died was Henry Vincent, 37, and wasunder investigation over a separate burglary involving another elderly victim.

I'm surprised anyone is shocked by this. You basically have to offer tea and crumpets to any burglar that breaks into your house over there.

So he wasn't charged, just detained for questioning. This is actually not a story. Someone died, if there was no investigation that would be worse, no? If there's doubt to the story, detaining makes sense.

He was held because if you think about it for a nano second, the only witness is dead. It's only this guys word that he was being burgled (or indeed that there were two of them)

A friend of mine was stabbed to death in 2004. The scum that murdered him said that he had broke into his flat. What do you think the police did next? yea that's right, they took him in for questioning. This old guy has been released on bail now.
Having said that, uk justice is a sham. My friend who was stabbed to death, his uncle was murdered just 2 years earlier (unrelated). The murderer got 10 damn years. The police were called 20 minutes before he was murdered
http://www.worcesternews.co.uk/news/...s_prison_move/
Also about 17-20 years a go a farmer shot a burglar and he was sent to prison. There was a lot of outrage about it at the time, and at that time we were not allowed to defend ourselves. Which is against our god given rights. The law was changed after this farmers case and we may now use reasonable force.

in 1997, in a country lane just outside of my town. A man was murdered, the mans girlfriend was not. Some guys pulled up, killed the boyfriend and she managed to get away. The police obviously pulled her in for questioning as she was the only one to question. It was the right thing to do too, because it took me all of 5 seconds to work out it was her who murdered he boyfriend.
All you have heard is that this guy got arrested for defending himself. That's not the official police story at the moment , that is just the medias story and people are running with it. Though I do believe that that is likey the actual events.
