Is there context as to why the old man was in the enclosure in the first place? I hate when animals have to be killed for mans stupidity. Happens a lot with bears in the national parks, people dont follow safety guidelines and get messed up by a bear so then the rangers have to find and kill the bear, sad.

That was exactly my point earlier in this thread. From the video alone there was even a clue as there was a guy walking outside the cage appearing to be trying to distract the lion. Old dude likely knew he was putting himself in danger but took a chance in order to try and alleviate whatever was upsetting the lion.

People like some ITT don't seem to give a $hit about doing any further research or contemplation on an issue and would rather just jump to conclusions.

For the record, lions are famously tame around people they know (they are pack animals). As far as big cats go, lions (along with cheetahs) are considered the safest and most predictable. He had probably been in that enclosure hundreds of times without issue. There are thousands of lions who receive daily human interaction and have never hurt anyone. He took a risk and that lion paid the ultimate price, but clearly he's not some yahoo off the street who jumped in there.

This guy made these animals his life so he obviously cares a great deal about them. He will be haunted by this incident for the rest of his days. Chill out with the insults and wishing him death. You *******s sound like a bunch of bloodthirsty redditors, unable to grasp nuance.
