That's because docs are the specialists of the medical world. Nurses and techs etc do 90% of the work. Docs do the things they don't know how to.

Yea, most nurses aren't making that unless they are some sort of manager, or they have been with the same hospital for years. Not a bad career, but 55k to 70k is a more accurate range with OT. I dated a girl with a masters degree in nursing, working in the NICU, and she didn't make as much as i make as a construction project manager.

RNs (Bachelor's Level education) around $65-70k

Also, there's a way higher ratio of men doing CRNA compared to NP.
My wife is a RN with 7 years experience now, she just applied to grad school Saturday going for CRNA and yes it requires a doctorate now in most states. The CRNAs that got in with masters programs back in the day got in lucky.

There exist RN's who have jobs where basically all they do is pass meds and take vitals, and with OT they can easily push six figures or more. Then most of the real work is shipped out if a patient needs to go to a real hospital away from their care facility. Those are the ones you should really be envious of.

Most nurses that get paid 6 figures, close to or more are working overtime, or are getting paid evening and weekend premiums. The other positions that are getting paid the same are usual 9-5 M-F office jobs with a lot less stress. I'm happy to be in the latter. Inb4 cope.

Can confirm, excellent life choice to become a nurse.

Work three 12's a week, 12/30 days per month, and 144/365 days out of the year. Just LOL @ Monday-Friday workers. Can pick up shifts when needed for extra cash very easily and make really good money if they are offering critical staffing bonuses. Differentials for nights or weekends, and you can basically get a 40-50% pay raise if you take a night/weekend contract.

She'll be making killer money soon. I don't know about overtime but the average CRNA salary is apparently higher than I listed there. I considered it but I'm more interested in orthopedics.

Based off my research, if she just "takes the job seriously" it shouldn't be a bad gig. I was reading about a couple horror stories of chitty CRNA's clashing with doctors. One doctor actually described a particular CRNA fuk up as an "assassination". But the CRNA was like on the phone during surgery and didn't ask for help from superiors. Then she left and the doctor had to tell the family. holy chit.

IT Bro checking in - took me almost 6 years in the field to break the six fig mark. Also location.

Comp Sci dude getting out of college job at Google or large tech place in high cost of living will make more than some dude starting off in tech in Wyoming.

Not at all, and if anything the pay is just relative to cost of living. But there can be huge variance based on location, experience, and title because there's not just one type of nurse.

RN crew checking in. I get paid to know **** and put said knowledge into action when people need it to not die and stuff. I'm a certified emergency nurse. Make $70k base and pretty much have unlimited OT with extra shift bonuses built in due to the huge shortage.

Honestly though, this **** is stressful. Treating time sensitive life threatening emergencies every day, knowing that if I'm unable to complete tasks in a timely fashion someone could die or have a lower quality of life or level of function. I've seen hundreds of people die. I've walked out of pediatric deaths and been yelled at for not tending to some stupid **** the person across the hall wants.

Totally worth it though because 99% of the time it's fun as hell.

My mom was an RN, head nurse ICU at a level 1 trauma center. She loved the action, she hated small hospitals, loved the big city hospitals. She retired in the 90's and was making very close to six figures at the time she retired due to Parkinson’s. It takes a special breed to handle that stress level for a whole career. Great stories though.
