I try to read the books and watch the movies at least once a year (along with Roger Zelazny's "Amber" series).

I try to bust out the books and read them to put myself to sleep... always a mistake because I tend to stay awake as long as I can to read them.

Christopher Lee read the books once a year from the time they came out till he died.

My username shows how much I love LOTR, both the books and films.

Thanks OP, this is a great thread indeed!!
Richard Armitage (King Thorin Oakenshield) is 6'2", as is the actor playing Dwalin. Its amazing what they can do with camera trickery.

Thanks for the res. *bow* All the hobbits actors in the "The Hobbit" are the same. It's like who's who puzzle game!

You are kidding right? Many samurai books and movies have no actors other than Japanese or Asian. The same things can be said about all those Chinese Ancient sword & magic fantasies like "Three Kingdoms" and "Water Margin", they are all great literature and many films made based on those.

The LOTR is written by a great U.K. author, based on his reality and a culture he grew up in, so what's wrong about that, I don't get it. If you really want to say about racists, you have goblins and orcs to protect, surely they are treated badly in the story and could use your protection. (just j/k)

Saw this in the cinema when I was 9 years old, first time I remember being completely blown away by something on the big screen. I felt the same way a few more times, especially in The Return of the King, but this is the first time I really thought "**** just got real"

Starting weight 130lbs
Current stats: 6"2, 210lbs.

The 8th and final rule: If this is your first night at Gym Club....... you have to squat.

BTW, did anyone else think the feminism plug with Erwin was off-putting/funny?

Did anyone watch the Hobbit movies? Since they're complementary to LOTR, what was your opinion on those?

The Hobbit movies have some good moments but they are bloated. They stretched what should be a shorty story into three long movies. There is plenty of filler.

Word has it they never had a script and went on the fly. It shows. Watchable but mediocre.

I was glad they didn't insert superfluous useless characters like Legolas in just to cater to the prepubescent fan-girls of Orlando Bloom.

M'lady. *bow*

I can and actually did watch LOTR movies again and again. As for those three "The Hobbit" movies, while there are many movies worse than them, watching them once is enough to me.

Although usually I prefer movies true to the original books, I like Legolas' presence in "The Hobbit". I like the way he moves and fights.

The LOTR movies are fkin amzaing but the books are a chore to read. Pages and pages of boring descriptions about trees and mountains. Have to get through like 20pages until something finally happens.

They get ripped off of youtube alot. Gotta get the extended edition discs. Makes me jelly all these amazing locations they filmed in.

Read all the books including prequels every year or two since I was a kid; marathon all the movies including the hobbit trilogy at least once a year, and loved the games that came out on gamecube and ps2
