This is a complicated issue and im not going to pretend to be an authority on it but my instinct after watching the first 30 seconds of the video was they should stop the practice of blackface because its 2018 and its pretty obvious why it would offend some people. Im a white man who took an African American History class in college that told me more about black history in one semester than i learned in 12 grades of school. So im not even going to attempt to argue with people who would be me if i had not taken that class. When you see the post cards of hundreds of white people surrounding a black man hanging from a tree it drives home something i cant express to you with words on a forum. Blackface was used in America to make a mockery of black people to dehumanize them. No the Dutch didnt do anything to blacks. No they dont need to feel bad about race relations. Yes they need to acknowledge that with snapchat, twitter, fb etc they should stop the blackface practice because this is bigger than just their country.

Those nations wanted multi-culturalism and diversity. Now their traditions and history are going to be called racist. Only a matter of time before said traditions start being dismantled.

Oddly, being one of the only very few black kids in school at the time, there was no link with the character and black people whatsoever from what i remember. Sounds a lot like the protestors wanting to take down statues of Robert E Lee because he was a hero of the war against the United States of America.It was a war based on treason and defense of the indefensible institution of slavery.Anyone in the 21st century that defends it as part of our "traditions and history" is a piece of ****.
