To spell it out to lurkers...

The blackface character, with a black curly haired wig and painted on big lips, is the bad guywho beats children.

The white dude that gives away presents to kids, is the good guy.

Those are the 2 characters, that were developed by a nation that engaged in the colonialization of darker skinned nations.

It's pretty easy to see why people believe that there are (intentional or unintentional) racial undertones.

wish times weren't so sensitive. On the radio before halloween all the DJ's were warning against people doing black face, saying it's racist, offensive, etc. To be honest I don't get the big deal as long as you're not being overtly racist. I'd love to go as Tyrone Bigums for Halloween, but apparently dressing up as a fictional character is racist

I haven't read the books. Are all the villians dark skinned humans in the book?

In the movies most of the bad guys are explictly stated to be non-human, and there are bad white humans. Like this guy...



So, I think your example between the Lord of the Rings - and the Dutch tradition of depicting the good guy as white, and the bad who abuses children as black - are a poor equivalence.

I don't know wtf the holiday is about, nor do I care. I think that either way, people getting upset over this, black, or white, is stupid. Anyone who is legitimately going to look down on another person or oppress them over skin color is a low I.Q. piece of shyt.

Also, that's a bit of a stretch calling Tropic Thunder a comedy film, I'd rather smack myself and drink my own piss than watch that piece of crap, it's the only time I ever walked out of a movie. Some girl wanted to see it, I was so furious I made her get our money back, srs. It amazes me that we live in a world where people get paid millions of dollars to create gutter trash such as Tropic Thunder.
