Free entry to the lounges, especially the centurion lounges is really nice.
Seems like Chase Sapphire is the Mjornir/Ultimate Mjornir of travel credit cards.

AMEX Platinum appears to be the Stormbreaker of travel credit cards right now. Feeling like this when I whip it out.

I just need to determine if I will use all of the features with it.

p much nailed it.

Amex is a slightly higher fee, few better benefits, and a few things that the Chase Reserve beats it on, but nothing really significant.

comparing your two weapons, it's like the stormbreaker is obviously the more OG weapon. But Mjolnir can still be thrown around at will unomsaiyan?

If you have one, you don't really need the other. But if you're choosing between, the Amex is the better card

Not sure if anyone caught it earlier, but Chase Sapphire Reserve currently has no referral bonus or anything. So just go ahead and sign up if you want that one.

Thing is I have to decide if I will use all of the benefits of the AMEX Platinum. I'm sure there are some benefits of the preferred I'm not using right now. Maybe I will be satisfied if I get more referrals for my Preferred before going to another card.

Segue into another topic: do you guys have any tips on increasing your credit limit with certain cards? I have had my Chase cards a little under three years now. My Freedom has had a lot of increases. More recently I was asked about my income. No changes in my credit limit at the moment through Chase but I'd like it eventually. Really to help with my credit utilization.

I really don't care about increase limits, but out of my chase cards they are...

Chase Ink Business Preferred - $9,000
Chase Freedom - $11,000
Chase Freedom Unlimited - $10,000
Chase Sapphire Preferred - $18,600
Chase Amazon - $9,500

I am a churner. So I don't care about my score right now. Was 799 before opening Chase Ink. I open up cards for the Bonuses.

Have the chase unlimited freedom from way back, is it worth it to get the Sapphire ,Reserve or Ink ? I do not travel that often and rarely spend more than $500 on my cards. My current daily is Discover IT since they been so good to me reversing shiity charges , been good with the extended warranties and their customer service is US based

Truth. The only other card I might consider for day to day is the AMEX Blue Cash Preferred. 6% on groceries up to 6K per year, 3% on gas and 1% everything else.

I would get the Hilton Aspire if you're going for Platinum level

You automatically get Diamond level Hilton status, 150k points and a free weekend stay.

I bet I've gotten $300 out of my Amex Hilton just out of executive lounge access

No. He means by how much credit you have and how much credit you are using. Say you open a card and get $10k credit line. You want to keep it under 30% at any given time (of course there are times where you have to make big purchases). Basically just pay your card off each month and you don't have anything to worry about.

I actually had mine lowered on me. I signed up for both Sapphire cards at the same time and they gave me 27k on the reserve I think around 20k+ on the preferred. After a month went by they basically realized "how much credit did we just give you at once?" And dropped the preferred all the way down to 3k but left the reserve at 27k

Echoing the poster above, but the utilization ratio is your current balance divided by your total available credit. Generally speaking you want this number to be pretty low. I believe this is calculated in total. Ex: you have 2 cards with a credit limit of $5k each. Whether you have $1500 on each or $3000 on one and $0 on the other, you're at a 30% utilization ratio because you have a $3000 balance across $10,000 worth of available credit lines.

beyond what the other 2 posters said. having a high utlization - meaning you got 5k cards and had used up 4k of it, shows youre more of a risk. the lender would be more inclined to err on the side of caution of lending you more because if youre carrying around that debt, there's a good chance you can't pay it

which, i guess isn't always true, but again.. its more of a risk to the lender

Consideration: After the airline and Uber credits, you still have AmEx Offers. If you use these at all (and they're really nice - you can still stack them with regular coupon codes and an airline miles portal), the card is effectively free. I've probably used $300 of Offers this year, and have another $200 worth in there of good ones that I might use before EOY, too.

It's calculated in totalandper card. Having any one card carrying a high ratio will ding your score, though not as badly as using 30%+ of your total ratio.

If you must pay something off over time, put it on your card to get the points then pay it off immediately with a low-interest no-fee personal loan (Marcus, Discovery, LightStream) for lower costs and because installment loans are calculated separately and are not very important to your FICO score.
Nah, fukk that. I’m not doing that.

Let's see what you guys recommend for my next card. Looking for airline or hotel points/miles strictly. Not interested in cash back.

In my wallet currently:
Chase Sapphire Reserve
Chase Ink Business Preferred
Chase Freedom
Citi Platinum Select AA
Hilton Honors Amex

I'm tapped on Barclay AA and Chase United. Cancelled those recently

Points wallet:
Loads of UR points
Almost 100k AA miles
3kish Delta miles

I like Hiltons. Yes. The status they give with their cards gives executive lounge access which is worth a lot to me when we travel. Its free breakfast and happy hour daily

Don't really have a preference on Airlines. I fly out of a small airport that basically has the big 3 (no southwest).

I should mention my wife has 120k AA miles and 80k Delta

I'd like to focus on stockpiling some airline miles for a business/first class ticket to Aus/Asia sometime in 2020.
