It’s certainly an exacerbating reason but not the only one. If it were, all the variation in crime and poverty would be explained by the local education system. That simply isn’t the case.

All poverty in first world countries right out of the gate isn't explained by lack of education?

How so?

And crime itself can be boiled down to desperation. If we're talking about the kinds of crime rappers have been known to rap about. The way i see it is if you have a good standard of education (which public schools in poor areas don't) youre not engaged, youre not learning and thus enter into a never ending cycle of poverty, failure & crime.

It encourages degenerate behavior so I agree to some extent. It's mostly because people can't handle it though and are easily influenced. It's hard to blame something as simple as music itself. You could very well make a similar argument that television has been just as destructive to the Western World encouraging similar behaviors.

Even without either of these people are so naive I'm sure there would have been something else that influenced terrible behaviors all the same. The majority of people can listen to rap and just enjoy the beat with catchy lyrics or whatever. The 'problem' is kids from the streets that literally have nothing. They grow up listening to rap with lyrics that glorify selling drugs, pimping b!tches, getting money. Etc. Music that talks about violence/killing people over street beefs/disrespect, Etc. And they completely take it to heart. They grow up with nothing and no positive role model. They hear guys that claim they came from nothing from the streets rap about how they 'made it'. Etc. Eventually the role model is the guy that has fame/fortune/respect/women. And they are willing to do anything to follow in that path.




I don't necessarily think rap is the entire problem. Allowing kids to be immersed in violence (video games, music, movies, TV shows, etc.) definitely desensitizes and hardens them. And if they don't have someone teaching them morals/ethics/ how to act in civilized society. They don't really stand a chance.

Gangsta rap is the significant majority of rap music, it's been that way since the mid 90s.

Rap as a genre hasn't changed it's obsession with violent criminality, since the mid 90s. Things arguably have gotten worse.

IMO even gansta rappers in the mid 90s made sure their lyricism was on point (eg. Biggie, Big Pun, etc). Nowadays... IMO 13 year olds could write on the the same level.
