Anything with Timothy Olyphant is a must watch for me and this was awesome.Chad Pitt was uber cool and imo made the movie.Loved that last scene and have been listening to that song "Keep me Hangin on" by Vanilla Fudge since watching this.Man who woulda thought one could want Hippies, who one in general relates to as cool and peace loving, to get the chit beaten out of em like in that final act.WOW.

Do you believe that artists 'should' not take responsibility or be held accountable, for the potential or actual impact of their work?
Let's say an artist (which has happened historically) makes racist cartoons, depicting entire demographics as inferior and sub-human. Do you still take a lasseiz-faire attitude to those artistic depictions?
For examples of what I'm talking about, just google some of the cartoons about Jews circulating in Nazis Germany.

You can like it or you dislike it, but you can't say he can't do it.

I was checking to see how extreme your seemingly lasseiz faire attitude to the - potential or actual - impact of the work of artists was.
Ironically you've jumped to as wild a conclusion as the 'woke' people you are criticizing.
All you had to do was ask what was the intention behind that post was.
Like I said beforeshouldis a strong word to me - it denotes the belief that something is a rule or obligation. I didn't once use that word.
IMO it was an irresponsible representation of Bruce, for someone who says that they are a fan. Especially given that no other real actor is caricatured in such a way in the movie by Quentin.
If he was generally caricaturing real actors, then it would have a different impact... People who have no prior knowledge of Bruce Lee will likely walk away knowing that everyone's characteristics were being exaggerated for comedic effect. However, he chose to portray Steve Mcqueen and Roman Polanski -who raped a 13 year old- in a straight forward way, but chose to single out Bruce Lee to be caricatured.
A rapist wasn't caricatured by QT, but someone who he's a big fan of was single out to be? Seems bizarre to me.

To borrow from the video I posted in post #71, "Movies are about what they're about, they are not about what they are not about."
Bruce Lee is caricatured the way he is because exaggerating that particular personality flaw fit the story both comedically and narratively.
Why were Steve McQueen and Roman Polanski not caricatured the way Bruce Lee was? Because it wasn't part of the story he was telling...and the movie is about what its about, its not about what its not about.
This is similar to the criticism I read recently that the fact that the Manson family were white supremacists should have been a factor in the movie. Now again, if it fit into the story he was trying to tell I'm sure that aspect would have been included into the narrative, but it wasn't....Because again, the movie is about what its about, its not about what its not about.
In order for QT to address those things he would have had to deviate from the story he wanted to tell. And his story wasn't about Sharon Tate or the Manson family's racism or the fact that Steve McQueen was a philandering, woman beating drug addict or Roman Polanski being a future rapist.
It was about Rick Dalton and Cliff Booth struggling to find their place during a transitional period in Hollywood history....That what its about, its not about those other things.

Watched the movie last night. I LOVED it.
No one wants to discuss the hairy armpit on the chick (Andie McDowell's) daughter as she's laying on Brad Pitt's lap?
Leo was great in it, Pitt was even better. He's just as cool as he was in Ocean's Eleven. Margot is HNNNGGGGGG.
How about the way they had that child diddler Polanski dressed up as Austin Powers?
The scenery was cool, I dug the Cadillac. And as soon as Kurt Russell showed up, it was affirmation that I knew I was going to like it.
The end is what should have happened to those scum. Brandy for the win.
