Looking at numbers right now, was pretty happy with CA's performance in cases and deaths relative to our population. Then I check out testing data. Fukking hell, we have beat Kansas....and that's it, we are #49 in per capita testing. What in the actual fuk, we have San Fran, LA, huge homeless population, Disney Land, so much fukking risk it's unbelievable. The governor has been pretty forward acting so far and probably has prevented a catastrophe, but we might be sitting on a powder keg here unknown due to lack of testing. We are #3 in total tests performed, so perhaps there's a bottle neck holding up progress. Hm...

Was having a look through the UK's Office of National Statistics March update on covid mortality.

I was intrigued by this table, showing that the mortality rate in March was lower than the average for the past 5 years for that month. The ONS suggests that the higher mortality in previous Marches might be driven by some "cold winters" over that period.





So how does covid kill an extra 3,300 people in a month while the overall mortality rate decreases slightly? As you'd expect (mathematically), it's because some other causes of death (particularly cardiovascular conditions) dropped by a similar amount to the number of new covid deaths. Ie the same people died, but attributed to a different cause.

People talking about the peak being hit don´t see the bigger picture. There will likely be many peaks. Once we open up again there will be another peak and so on. If we go slowly down in numbers over a short peiod of times, it´s still very bad. For every new person that gets infected it will be harder to stop, actually impossible to stop. The media are downplaying it because no matter how bad the virus is, mass panic will always be worse. The virus might be here for many years, depending on when and if we find a cure/vaccine. For every person that gets infected the likelyhood of a bad mutation rises. There are already many different strains circulating the globe, and you can get infected by different strains at the same time as research shows.

Even if the numbers, which by the way we cannot trust, are slowing down it doesn´t mean things are getting better. Thats a false sense of security. As long as there are many thousands new infected every day, things will get worse and worse. Hitting the peak is a meme to comfort people that don´t know better. Since there have never been successfully developed a vaccine for coronaviruses, there might not be one for thi new one either. Well, maybe someday, but by then half the world population will have been infected, and hundreds of millions might suffer permanent damage, resulting in further economic disaster and civil unrest. There was an attempt to create a vaccine for the SARS virus, but the vaccine ended up killing the test animals because of the Antibody dependent mechanism of the virus. Resulting in an overreaction by the immune system, and the immune system don´t know how to cope so it starts to destroy the body from the inside out.

Many people think this will all be over soon, but things never go wrong until it does. Since we likely have 10+ million infected, it will be close to impossible to stop the spread. Borders will be shut down for years, maybe, and travel will not be possible for at least 8 months or so. As soon as people feel comfortable going out again, numbers will possibly spike again and again, and from there we will be in a long cirlce of death and frustration. It seems like some people think the virus will just magically dissapear, pooohf gone. Good luck with that when it has confirmed to infect rats, cats, dogs, and likely every other animal in the book.
We will see the biggest economic decline in all of history. The pandemic has just begun. The clock is ticking.

Based on Worldometers, UK had 1,789 Corona deaths on 31st March, and now they have 16,060 so far. The number of daily victims is slowly decreasing - maybe -, but it's still far from over and we can estimate and additional 3-4,000 victims by the end of the month.

If herd immunity is the way out of this then it would be rational to relocate to or invest in an area that has already been hit hard by the virus once the caseload there has verifiably maintained a downward trend for a decent interval.

Family member got results back over the weekend and tested positive. They did go to urgent care after coughing up blood but before the positive result came in and were prescribed Azithromycin (Z-Pack) and Benzonatate - I think this was diagnosed as Covid-19 related bacterial pneumonia but I'm not 100% certain on that. Current symptoms are dry cough in the day and night but with grey phlegm in the mornings, fever and chills, muscle aches, extreme fatigue, taste and smell has been gone for days but apparently back this morning.This is tremendous news!
