Lots of plastic fittings get brittle and break over time. You also get mold and mildew and even barnacles growing everywhere. It's a hassle.

I understand the 120k bass boat if you are fishing in competitions but I dont understand them for 99% of fisherman...

Yeah.....that's just the nature of boating. If you don't factor in yearly cost of ownership, you dun goofed.

The drive components sure, but the blocks, nah homie..

You're telling me muh****ers are losing their boat cash to driven shafts and props? Seems silly. Maintaining the blocks should be straight outa an auto hand book. Filters, plugs, and oil.

Great deal. I want that exact same boat. Thing is I want a newer motor. From what I've seen they are 20K+ newish. Don't see many used 17' around here.

No real need for hyd jack plate where I fish. Gen 3 lowrance hds. No real need for poles either. Ultrex came out like 10 months after I bought it so I need to upgrade that. probably upgrade to lowrance live but electronics go out of date every day so that’s a hard trigger to pull.

You were asking why people complain about the cost of owning a boat. I was answering that general question, not one specifically for the type of boat you bought.

Buy a proper cabin cruiser sailboat full of teak and you'll understand.

Also, if I'm not mistaken, for expensive motor yachts, owners tend to budget at least 10% of the purchase price every year just for maintenance.

He was asking why people say that IN REPLY to some one telling op to break out another thousand aka for that type of boat. So yes you are correct about the larger boats but people say that about all boats. And he’s right...plugs, impeller filters pretty basic on 2 strokes. Glad I could clear things up.

This is pretty much what I was thinking. Don't get me wrong, if you buy a quarter million, 45 foot yacht, you had better have **** you money in the first place. Us broskis running under 24 foot should be all easy mode. Also yeah, teak is a bitch, but only on the exterior where the sun burns it. I don't see why you need to keep refinishing teak inside a cabin. You're not going around keying your teak are you?

EDIT: own 2 teak porches, Varathane erry 2 years or sun burn/sanding/rinse repeat

It's not that bad, depending on the boats. I have a Yamaha 250 on my Grady white, a Yamaha 50 on my welded aluminum, and a supercharged 1.8 liter in my waverunner. All four strokes.

Impellors every few years, just in case on the outboards.
Lower unit oil and oil change every year
Engine oil every year on the waverunner and plugs every two years just in case. Ring free additive before oil change, you'll go thousands of hours.

Can confirm, I can do all maintenance in a half day.

That center looks cool. I sell waverunners at a boat show every winter and the jet boats are really well received.

Thats pretty much all I've heard about the 1.8Ts - bullet proof. Basically the goat of the jet boats, and that 21 footer is running two of the 1.8s, similar to the 242. I like the scarabs, but they appear overpriced and suffer from unreliability compared to the Yamahas, which is what you'd expect I guess.

Scarab used to be great when they were dominating the offshore race scene, but lately they seem a bit outdated.

The yam jet boats seem to have a cult following.

My 1.8 in the waverunner SHO is at 200 hrs and I expect to double or triple that.

2016-17 era 1.8s would blow timing chains and scramble the engine, but Yamaha will send you a new engine lol. Problem has been fixed. Pretty solid now. If you are going to wreck one you'll do it by sucking up a rope and bending a rod

Timing chains (belts formerly) have been the bane of my life on the auto scene too. Audi owner here. Brb 70K detonation. Thanks for the FYI, I'll remember that when I go to buy.

EDIT: waiting for when the japs and germans will switch to 100 year old double rollers to solve their piss poor engineering.
