His ‘wealth’ (or lack thereof) is his whole brand though. Btw, his latest tweet doesn’t say the ny times documents are ‘fake’, it says they were ‘illegally obtained’! And could all be so easily disproved by Trump himself with his tax returns. Surely he will release them before the election?
Are you not smart enough to understand that being wealthy and paying income tax don’t have anything to do with each other?

Or even a basic understanding of how deductions work?

You can really tell who the poverty people are Here by their stark lack of understanding of taxes.

From the perspective for potato OP, let me explain it in a way you may understand: your wagecel job fires you on 12/31/2019.... You don't work for an entire year, go back to school, and collect zero net income... Should you pay income tax for the year 2020? By your logic, yes.... By normal people logic, no.
You’d have half a point if his business was just real estate, but it isnt. What about the hotels, casinos, golf courses? His european course all lose money, his casinos are shut. Obviously his hotels won’t do well during the pandemic especially.

You’re assuming he doesn’t pay tax because ‘he’s smart’. All the evidence points to him not paying tax because he’s a crap businessman

I'm actually assuming he isn't paying taxes because of a very basic, easy to digest, elementary level understanding of accounting.

If he released his education records we could see if he passed accounting 101. Of course, he won’t do that either.

This isn't about his personal income tax return. Read the phucking article:

"The New York Times has obtained tax-return data extending over more than two decades for Mr. Trump and the hundreds of companies that make up his business organization, including detailed information from his first two years in office.."

And the article already covers the question as to whether these are simply paper losses - they are not. He is actually hemorrhaging cash through these "investments".

That's literally how businesses are run.

You have overhead, real estate, insurance, utilities.... The NFL was tax exempt until 2015, is that also a horrible business?

"HE" isn't doing his taxes... a team of CPAs are.

Hotels and Casino's are taxed the same way as real estate as the principle asset is the building. I am assuming the Golf Courses are usually part of the Hotel Property and accounted for in the same filing.

All the evidence points to him not paying taxes because standard GAAP and IFRS practices handle depreciation of buildings in a similar way. If Trump dies transferring ownership or Sells a property there will be a taxable event which will more than make up for the years of not paying taxes...

The three European golf courses, the Washington hotel, Doral and Trump Corporation reported losing a total of $150.3 million from 2010 through 2018, without including depreciation as an expense."

^^^ That?^^^^

You realize that means he was easily making 10s of millions per year right?

He was losing money even before depreciation. What this proves is that he's a horrible businessperson. He squandered his dad's fortune in some of the most incredibly unprofitable ventures ever. He got rich again because of Mark Burnett's work on The Apprentice. He then plowed all that money into ventures that lost a ton of money again. This entire idea that he's this smart businessperson is a facade, and this is yet more evidence of that.

The only thing worse than someone uneducated is someone that is uneducated thinking they know what they are talking about...

Even assuming the "150 million" loss before depreciation in an 8 year period is representative of normative operations...

Think of why that would not matter at all in Trumps situation. It was referred to multiple times on this page.
