Alberta to North dakota.

The death rate was 8x higher in North dakota.

That means 6200 more albertans would have died in the past 9 months had we done the bare minimum.

With a vaccine literally on the way, does this even make sense?

Did anyone else wonder why Fauci waited for the Moderna vaccine instead of going with the Pfizer vaccine which has already been widely administered to health care workers (husband got it last week)?

We did the actual numbers in the COVID-19 thread.
Expected deaths in 2020 should have been around 2.9m (2.84m in 2019).

When it all shakes out there will be between 3.15m and 3.2m all cause deaths in 2020.

Albertan here: we've had minimal lockdowns.

We're just a wee bit more careful with the treatments.

Not sure how demographically similar we are to ND, but Alberta skews young.

Exactly, we've done the bare minimum as far as lockdowns go, and it shows that they do help.

I think climate and population density are the biggest factors. It makes no sense to compare alberta to Florida or California.

It's scary at this point how dumb you all are.

The states with the biggest lockdowns have the highest number of "cases." If you can't see the man behind the curtain pulling strings to take away rights then you are truly a lost cause.

Average age of COVID death is higher than average life expectancy. It's going to cut some peoples lives short. Working age population should be carrying on as normal though outside of basic human hygiene and courtesy.
Replace pandemic with "war". In a war people die. Wouldn't the goal be to minimize the deaths? Would you send people to underground bunkers if there was an air raid going on, or would you be screeching about people's freedoms being trampled? Working age population still need to take precautions because you can't expect every old person to live by themselves. Most of the ones getting infected/dying are from a younger person who is out being exposed and then comes home to give it to their parents/grandparents. The response doesn't work unless everyone is doing their part.

take a closer look at the data

It starts on week ending 2/1 not week ending 1/11

The data for the most recent (3-4) weeks is incomplete.

For the 44 weeks inclusive from 2/1 to 11/28 there has been 2,736,200 recorded deaths. Averaged out per week - 62,187. Prorated for a 52 week year - 3,233,700.
