American Brahs - Is Women Who Want A Man Who Makes 6 Figures The Norm?

I've been watching podcasts with American women, and surely it's only in areas like Miami, white collar New York, and California (where a lot of these women seem to be from) that so many women want a man who makes 6 figures a year as their ideal?

Practically every single show, regardless of race, the women say the exact same thing. They want a man who earns 6 figures as their ideal. From girls who are literally still in college, to women who make 6 figures themselves.

I'm genuinely curious.

(Of course, I understand that there's a difference between a stated ideal and practice.)

It signifies high status. You may see people wanting a more traditional and resourceful man but I think six figures is just a standard thrown around for a man who has money.

Interesting thing is that on one podcast I listen to they purposefully ask women what they rank in terms of importance; looks, money or status. Money and Status overwhelmingly are listed as 1st and 2nd ranked, in different orders.

Women are hypergamous and will naturally go for the top 20% of men in terms of physical appearance, wealth, and social status.

Obviously not all of them will settle with their ideal man, so some of them will have to eventually face reality after all the pumps and dumps -- and marry a guy that's closer to average. The rest of them will become grumpy old post-glow feminists who will post hateful tweets about 40 year old men dating 25 year old women.

I agree, there are cross-cultural studies that have lead me to believe that women are 'soft wired' to be hypergamous.

However, here in the UK at least, women do not openly talk about a particular figure that they want a guy to have. If anything they will describe class/socio-economic status (e.g. they want a man who works in management/executive job, Solicitor, a Doctor, etc) but not outright a salary. Women on these podcasts do not speak about the kind of job, just that they want their man to earn a particular salary.

In fact, no other country I've come across has women openly talking about what salary they want their partner to earn. It seems to be Americans (and 1 Canadian).

six figures was a term used for high status in the 80/90s. Since then, inflation has made six figures just above average in most of the country. It's even just below average in high COL areas.

Sure. But that is for women you don't marry.

Marrying a woman over money equals divorce, which equals syphoning away your money and getting dragged in court.

Any woman that expects more than what is comfortable to live on is just money or false "status" chasing. And the funny part is a lot of those type of men love it because they think they're cool af until they get divorced or cucked.

Noone has said that men are less shallow or better than women ITT.

However... It's far easier to be fit and hot, than it is to be part of the top 10% of earners in the nation.

It takes a what a decade + from 18 to get to be part of the top 10% earners, along with dedication and networking? Dieting, exercise, and good make up can make a woman attractive to the majority of men IMO.

Not bitterness, one takes a lot more work.

Lots of people have 6 fig incomes, along with massive debt, high col, and few major assets or sources of passive income. Wealth isn’t your paycheck. The wealthy don’t even need paychecks.

Until you get there and realize its not really all that much. Still many do it on much less.

I think really its relative to the womans status. Her worth, background and looks let you know how much you need to make.

My gf is from a poor background, has a degree that doesnt yield a high salary was making barely 30k when I met her. She thinks my salary is a fortune and has very modest desires.

My wife was making 130kish when I met her (pharmacist) and I was a firefighter making 35k. I remember taking her to this one dinner and spending $140 which was a ton for me then lol.

She must have wanted me bad bc she bought me a PS4 like 3 months after dating loll bc she knew I wanted one and couldn’t afford it

This is first year I’ve ever made more than her since I changed careers to NP and i should be doing 250-300k next year when I open my psych practice. I had more money in my pocket when I was a fireman making 12/hr though lol

From Canada and in my experience, it's usually the women who grow up in big cities and in certain circles that throw that number around.

Someone mentioned that there are groups/classes dedicated to public speaking, specifically to help those with poor social skills. Maybe try that?

Or join some improv classes. As gay as it sounds, I know a couple of social autists who swear by these for their newfound social success.

Social skills are just that, skills.



Classes may help but so does bitting the bullet and just throwing yourself put there.
