All in software dev. I still do some dev as I am transitioning via shadowing as well. But I am a dev from a grad scheme and I am doing the BA equivalent of that. No downgrade.
I hate the corporate jungle as, unlike lawyer/medicine, it is more of a jungle than set paths. But from observations / trying to decode/rationalise it seems like there are two paths:
BA ---> Senior versions ---> Product/Project Manager types ---> Beyond
Software Developer (whatever sub-speciality, excluding admin/IT support as that, is not even in the industry) ---> Senior Software Developer ---> Software Developer Manager ---> Beyond
I just feel the former progresses faster and is considered more important for some reason. I also think the work will be better as I will not be stuck in some specific technical segment. And as you have said if I have a personality and I actually have some understanding how a business requirement translates to a proper feature and surrounding technologies, I can shine a bit more than the random non-techie.

only benefit of software dev is prob easier to find jobs of the sort more easily/stably, not that its crazily difficult for BA or anything

That is why I will continue to code to attempt to create a business.
2. When you are a BA/Product manager you still work you have responsibility. Maybe I worded it wrong and just software development is simply too narrow in a business scenario. Whereas you have more visibility as a BA and are more on top hence why your work is seen as more pivotal.

There aren't very many product managers, however.
Moving between companies every few years is not at all uncommon until you find your dream position. Keep going for it, and congrats for your new role!

but mathematically speaking Product managers have multiple senior/non-senior software developers so the ratio is skewed

Looool no offense, OP, but you sound like another naive recent college grad who thinks he has the world figured out 2 years into his career. If the business side makes you happy, then good on you for making the move to something you enjoy more. That said, there's plenty of "non-autists" who "have a personality" in finance/business that never get close to what your aspirations are - just fair warning. There's a reason why really smart people opt for high floor fields like medicine/law/engineering - corporate politics are no joke & not something always in your control. Best of luck to you, but if you're expecting to make the C-suite just because you're "social" or think it's that easy to get promoted past a certain point, chances are you're going to be very, very disappointed.

BA is a tough role, you have to wrestle with quite a lot of ambiguity, developers who don't give a chit about what you do and clients who expect you to be a mind reader and put no effort in. Software requirements is very underappreciated unfortunately.

I mentioned a page back that I might go 180 degrees and leave corporate (although you also mentioned law, where everything outside the public sector is corporate law).
You mentioned engineering in that trio so I will just split it into software development and real engineering. In both, the smart ones who stay into that - they deal with politics as well.
I never said C-Suite works out if you do X route, speak Y stuff and do Z work. It absolutely doesn't - it is 50% right place right time at least.
But what I did say is that it usually works out better in the average case and in the average case you do less deep technical work and more surface which can be more interesting and possibly more promotions.
It is just me being smart not breaking my back learning all new tech stuff and specialising in what I am told to without any independent creation. I can do that myself outside work in projects I think are beneficial to keep my skills.

Software developers also feel like this, as this is how I feel working on a small technical segment. Yes, it is tangible but such specific detail.
You are right about delusional people thinking CEO is all about the grind and stuff. But from the tech perspective - BA/product manager gets closer on average to that. Don't act dev tech is something outside the corporate world.
It is not rocket science. I thought as a CRNA you would understand but you weren't smart enough to get an offer from a medical school like me.

Atta boy OP surely copying what other people have done in their career will lead to a prosperous future.
Or is this the kind of BS thinking everyone with a lick of experience realizes is toxic to corporate culture?

This is not something original... literally, nothing in the corporate world is.
I explained several times why this, on average, results in better outcomes than what I left...

I am not done yet - this is an interim just to escape the ballz deep coding. And explore it as a possible permanent route in that side of the tech world.
Switching to:
a) law
b) medicine
c) mgmt consulting
d) investment banking
e) teacher (private school)
is still on the table.

OP that's not really the "business" side. Go get an Executive MBA if you want to do the business side and be a $10k/day CEO.

Otherwise, can you please elaborate with specifics as I have done the research and it came out like that?
If you are talking about something like Sales. Yes that is very business, very client-oriented but that is like leaving tech (no BA in tech) altogether and going into sales. Sales in tech is still sales - just software sales.

Congrats and good luck, but sounds horrible.
Could never go back to the corp world. Feel like a cuck slave regardless of how much money you're on.
Atleast on the sales side you can get away with being a little wild. Tech can also get away with less cuckery as they're expected to be autistic. Business side is cuck central with 70% of ops just trying to look busy, full of useless plebs generally.
As a tech BA you will spend most of your time explaining the autists to the cucks. Fook that life.
