Most wealthy people recommend allocating roughly 5% of your portfolio to speculative investments.

I am sure some would argue that any stock with upward or downward volatility similar to Bitcoin is a similarly speculative investment.

In the meantime, it is now good to get on Bitcoin? I imagine it'll hit $65k or so again and keep going up.

Yeah and I do agree, your investment strategy has to be blended. But your thread doesnt make that statement. You are casting a pretty specific net without laying out your assumptions up front.

For those reasons, it makes you come across as someone bitter and that doesnt help sway "the kid's" choices.
If you came across as someone that actually understood different aspects of life, maybe "the kids" would think you had a leg to stand on with your positions.
It's a ponzi scheme because there is absolutely nothing and I mean nothing backing Bitcoin or any other crypto currency you keep touting as legit. There is no added value in the creation of "Bitcoin" and I use the creation very loosely because you can't just create bitcoin like you can create fuel out of crude oil. People like you who are easily suckered into these things buy into it and it raises the price and once the people at the top are satisfied with their returns they sell it. Once the price goes low enough they hype it up again only to sell again. Bitcoin isn't like the US Dollar. The US Dollar is backed by the worlds strongest government which has the backing of the Worlds strongest military. The US dollar is backed by a GDP of 21.43 Trillion dollars and that number is only growing. Bitcoin is backed by individuals who are stupid enough to invest their life savings into something that isn't even tangible.

At the end of the day the stock market will always be king. Anyone can enter and it is well regulated enough that in the long run you can make solid returns from companies that are legally obligated to produce earning reports every quarter. You're investing in legit companies that are driven by profit and that can be sued if they exploit their shareholders. Try suing the creator of bitcoin. To conclude, you need a sucker dumb enough to pay for the inflated price of a bitcoin in order to make anything from your so-called investment. With stocks all I gotta do is click sell and boom sold.

I feel bad for coincels. The American dream is becoming more and more difficult each day. This looked like an easy way to get some gains. Lot of people did, but a lot of people are going to lose a lot also. I can't see how its not a zero sum game, where any amount someone wins, some other person/people have to foot the bill for it.

I'll give you guys a tip, get in on AMZN, maybe wait for a dip its up a little now, but there is a good possibility they will unleash a stock buyback when that bond sale comes through which was one of the cheapest in history, they outdid Apple's rates last year, AMZN is amazing.

Meh, the US Dollar has been losing more and more value over the years. I wonder what the effects will be after the stimulus money and unemployment going out. There's already talks of another recession. As for stocks, well those can be manipulated just as easy. Will most Americans even be able to safely retire with the typical stocks and 401k?

Ponzi Scheme or not, if you invest what you can afford to lose in Crypto, the risk is worth it for a possible x100 of your investment. People who get good returns use them to pay off debt, student loans, to buy a house, and invest more.

The US dollar still remains the dominant currency tho and the value can go up if the government implemented fiscally responsible policies. Bitcoin on the other hand is just pure speculation. There is nothing backing it. At least the US dollar you know there is a military juggernaut behind it and 21.43 Trillion Dollars. Plus the USA has a chit ton of assets backing it up. Bitcoin is backed up by folks like Elon Musk who are trying to make a quick buck and people with little knowledge about what they are investing in. However, I'd hardly call Bitcoin an investment because it's not something tangible. It's just an idea made by an individual.

As for stocks, yes they can be manipulated but there are regulations in place that can intervene if the manipulation gets outta hand. The stock market is relatively safe if you invest in companies that have decent returns and companies that are actively trying to grow. Obviously if you invest in junk stocks you deserve to lose money. The GameStop drama was a one time thing and I'd hardly call the actions of the hedge funders manipulation because GME was a chit company that was on its way out.

A lot of folks like you that support bitcoin always bring up risk and x100 returns. Why are you this greedy? Why are you not satisfied with investing your money into stocks that have a track record of delivering results to their shareholders? I'm starting to think the real greedy folks are not those in the 1% but it's the folks who are in the 99% trying to make it to the 1%. You're so blinded by your own greed that you're basically buying a currency that is on par with monopoly money.

I respect your analysis honestly.

I prefer smart contract based projects like Ethereum/MATIC, Polkadot, Solana, BSC, Cosmos, Tezos, Wanchain, etc. They actually can - and do - provide utility to a variety of industries from finance to gaming, entertainment, the arts, etc. I also like digital privacy projects like Pirate Chain, Monero, Secret, Firo, etc, because our privacy is increasingly being trampled on so there is utility for digital privacy projects, especially when it comes to finances.

It's a shame that Bitcoin is still the poster child of crypto, and people think that it encompasses crypto.

The sooner Bitcoin is dethroned the better, for the crypto market and industry IMO.

I don’t feel bad for those retards at all. The only way you make money from a coin “mooning” or having explosive growth is by getting some other bigger idiot to buy it for a more expensive price than you bought yours for. That means that a group at the end, usually the most susceptible to get rich quick bs, has to buy at or near the top and get left with the bags when it plummets

It’s hilarious reading threads from coincels talking about how this is a “bear market” and quoting buffet with things like “be greedy when others are fearful”. This isn’t a bear market , crypto isn’t an established asset class like real estate, bonds, or stocks to have markets. This is a correction and it will continue as these cryptos lose more value and the alt coins lose 90% of their value as they are literally worthless

Maybe I'm dumb, but what happens when an EMP scenario is introduced?. The whole idea of value based on electrical signals just seems odd to me, but I'm no investor.

Yeah, I think some of these other coins might be more viable at scale than Bitcoin (dead end IMO) and could have a future as currency.

But until people start accepting them as payment, I'm not taking them as currency.

The problem I have with crypto brahs isn't that they are making money - I've made tons of short plays that I don't believe in long term just to make money. I think oil is going die off quite a bit 20 years from now vs today, but I just put $600 down in gasoline calls last Thursday. It's when crypto brahs drink the Kool Aid and start evangelizing their short term speculation plays as this long term game changer. Right now, I don't see anything that's changed the game. I see $2 trillion in currencies that can't pay foranythingwithout being converted back into USD, haven't made any progress there in the 10-ish years they've existed, and fluctuate 10-20% based on Twitter posts and late night shows.

If you are going long on Bitcoin/crypto right now, you are paying top dollar to bet on a zero cash-flow asset doing something you've never seen it do in a decade. I'm staying away.

That's not true for all crypto, but I understand what you are saying about many.

People for example can buy some projects and set up a node/join a validator pool and earning passive income from the transaction fees.

Also, number of projects actually have utility other than a speculative asset. The market has not matured yet though, and there is a long way to go.

I find it funny how people think fiat is not akin to monopoly money. Fiat isguaranteedto go to zero over time. Bitcoin is not, no matter what anyone may say. I don't own any bitcoin btw

I agree. IMO the long term plays are privacy currencies, smart contract platforms, and DAPPs (decentralized applications, built on top of smart contract platforms).

Bitcoin though will likely stick around due to network effect and first mover advantage, but I don't think it will be the dominant crypto in the next 10 years.
I see $2 trillion in currencies
Honestly, cryptocurrencies are not the majority of crypto projects.

Many projects are smart contract platforms (that double as currencies), and applications built on top of those platforms.
that can't pay foranythingwithout being converted back into USD, haven't made any progress there in the 10-ish years they've existed, and fluctuate 10-20% based on Twitter posts and late night shows.
Smart contracts and DApps have made leaps and bounds, crypto really is unrecognizable to the way it was 10 years ago.

(A good 4 minute video on smart contracts, for any lurkers...)

This, there are lots of future utility coming up from RDIF tagging on logistics, to tracking water levels to pollution levels, to financial transfers to financial security.
