Crawled under op's car and took a pic of his drain plug for the misc.

op doesn't realize the oil techs been tightening his drain plug to 2500 ft/lbs with an impact

When I change my oil, I let it drip for about 30 minutes to get the old oil out. I dunno how Walmart can get all the old oil out and do their 2000 point inspection in 10 minutes.
Also when I change my oil, I put on a proper filter, not those 10 cent ones Walmart uses. And I know it's done properly and not under/over filled by someone who doesn't care. Who knows what quality oil they use either.

My diesel uses one and I only use an OEM motorcraft one

He probably can't see under the car when this is happening because he's driving lol and the techs at walmart 1000000% don't care what happens to someone else's car most likely
Also, oil change places use an oil extractor, so it's much faster.

If I'm feeling lazy, I like to take my car to the Lexus dealership for oil changes. It's nice to lounge around there and get free snacks and look at the cars. It's like $75 which is a lot compared to $45 if I do it myself(Mobil 1 + filter).

If you have money, always go the dealership route(not Walmart). It's just a good feeling having someone else do the work for you.

Although I have to say my last dealership encounter wasn't so good. Went in for an oil change and they quoted me $2000 to get other maintenance stuff done. This is on a Honda Odyssey with 95k miles.

Just changed struts and control arms. Turned into a 6 hour job and sore as phuk after from fighting with the struts.

I forgot how much working on a daily driver sucks. Never again. Would rather pay someone $200 to do that chit.

I don't understand the time argument. It isn't even about saving 50 bucks. It would take 5 times longer to drive to some grease monkey shop, wait in line, wait for service, and drive home. Especially for my lifted 4x4 I can practically walk under. No ramps or lift needed.

Then you have to worry about them being incompetent, not doing chit right, using inferior bulk oil, damaging or dirtying up your car. Not trusting my vehicles to some $10/hr lube guy who smokes pot on his lunch break.

I did the same thing after changing out the leaf springs and front coil springs on my jeep. I paid a dude to do the ball joints on my truck. I still do simple jobs like brakes and oil changes myself though

This. It's not about money its about having the job done right and timely. I don't trust quick lube places and anywhere else you have to have an appointment and that chit takes forever. I'd rather do it myself then sit in a dealership for an hour

There is a Pennzoil or Valvoline oil change shop in my town. I saw the owner of the place, in uniform, buying about 10 gallons of that cheap Wal Mart Super Tech oil. I doubt if it was for personal use.

are the from the top pump oil changers any good? i feel like they wouldnt get the stuff that settled all the way at the bottom and you cant "flush" out the oil resivor by running new oil through the top out the bottom.

but some videos i watched said they are fine.

noticed some of the oil change shops are using them now, made me rage, like i could just fuking do that if that is all you going to do is pump it out from the oil fill hole.

It's not defining my manhood because I can take off caps on a simple car procedure. It's the power of self-reliance - the [obviously] dying art of having sufficient basic life skills to handle the trivial. There is practical use in having some of these skills and we all know it. Somehow we all have an intrinsic sense of things we should know and not have to rely on someone else to do. I'm not elevating it - that's actually my point. In my eyes, knowing how to change your oil is no more important, but no less important, than knowing how to change a light bulb or how to make dinner.

What a ridiculous age we live in where being stranded on the highway and calling AAA is preferable to just learning how to change a tire because we have "men" that can't teach their sons and daughters how to do it. You're failing and that's the standard by which I say, yes, you are less manly.

Most oil is made by Warren Oil Company, supertech being one of them.

You drive to Walmart and wait in line to purchase the oil + filter
You jack the car up and have to crawl underneath
You have to make sure to wear your crap throwaway clothes
You have to be careful to not splatter your driveway with the oil when loosening the bolt
You then have to clean yourself up because no matter, there's going to be a little spillage
You then drive back to Walmart to dispose the bad oil

All that work to save $50? Maybe if you were poverty making minimum wage but for most people it is def not worth it.

Did it once many years ago, but after decided it was not worth the effort to save such a small amount of money.
