I actually like going to the gym and I always have more intense and better workouts when there are other motivated people there too. I go to a legit gym where people are serious.

Just lol at "viruses" lol @ being scared of germs.

I work from home and do home gym lol. It does get a little old but probably helps that I'm an older brah (39) so we have a large nice house with lots of space, land, pool etc. Would probably not enjoy it as an apartmentbrah.

I do definitely need to get out of the house frequently but I hang with friends etc for that - miss the social aspect of gym but the convenience, no waiting for a bench to open etc more than makes up for it.

Home gym crew

The closer we approach the uncertainty of life's ending the more we wish to trade all of the things we have acquired in exchange for all of the things we have lost: wealth for youth, knowledge for fresh curiosity, resignation for hope. We'd trade our wisdom for new experiences, but it is wisdom that will teach us that at the end of the road the only new experience is death.

Garages are for tools and nice vehicles.

Basement gym is where it's at. Plenty of space, always a little on the cool side, hidden away.

I was really appreciating these last few years having it.

Whole reason I originally went the home gym route. I hated waiting 15-30 minutes for a squat rack. It sucked.

Been using a home gym for a year now. First it was in a highrise apartment that had AC, now it's in a garage with no AC. Even with a fan, lifting in the summer is brootal.. just not sure if I want to go back to a public gym since I haven't gotten the vaccine yet

Considered it briefly. But ultimately I don't like working out at home. I really like a variety of machines/cables. Seeing hot bishes around. Etc.

I have a three car garage and I put two cars in there and also have a small CNC lathe and mill out there, along with tons of tools. (Heated and cooled with a split unit that works great)

Some of us have serious money in our garages and still prefer the basement gym.

This. I have an extra bedroom that I've strongly considered turning into a gym but it just seems like a waste of space.
Never enjoyed garage gyms, here in Texas its way to fkn hot in the summer to be lifting in a garage. Also, even though we live in a gated neighborhood, I'm not comfortable leaving cars outside with how much fkn crime there is in the city, not to mention the freak hailstorms. Having a nonfunctional garage just seems like a bad idea imo.

Although the price isn't a major issue, you don't really save much money over time like many home gym brahs claim you do.
For $10,000, I can get 200 months of membership for 2 people at a decent gym.

most ppl need their garage space though. Thats the biggest thing

Plus, even if you have the space (lets say a basement for instance) you simply dont have the equipment like a local gym. Dont get me wrong, you can go big with a rack of dumbbells, super nice all in one set, ext but it will cost you $10k (more or less) to build out a bomb gym

brb no sloots
brb no 'sup' nodding the same bros every day

I've worked out a ton at home and used to have an incredible setup, but it always took a lot longer to get things done with nobody watching. Catching people mirin' is the best motivation. That being said, I'm designing a new house and get hard thinking about the basement gym.

I have a tall very sturdy A-frame pull up bar that folds away, really good quality parallel bar that disassembles down to take up less space, medium height parallettes, short parallettes, many different resistance bands, a 5lbs-50lbs weighted vest, Oly rings, some other stuff and I really know how to do body weight stuff using levers. All the stuff I do at the gym I can do at home. And actually, I got a better set up at home for what I do, I just like going to the gym.

This. Would prefer the local gym over a home gym every time.

Local gym
PROS: can be a competitive environment. you see people stronger than you or with better builds. go in for a hour/hour and a half and destroy a workout. 10min drive gives the PWO time to kick in. check out the hot bishes wearing those skin tight see-through short jawns.
CONS: sometimes have to wait for like a squat rack or bench to open. monthly payments until the end of time. can't slam weights, can't use chalk, probably missing some

Home gym
pros: ??
cons: huge startup cost, occupies your garage or basement, up to you to clean and maintain all your equipment, etc

Lol if you arent fully disassembling the gravity in your garage at least once a month so your barbells move smoothly against it.

I mean no pros for a home gym? Clearly your just bias AF lmao.

Home Gym
Pros: No wait for anything ever, can superset & use as much equip as once as you want without worrying about being a major Dbag ,can have specialized equipment a local gym wont have, Can workout in boxers = SO MUCH less laundry, no people around hovering waiting for ur bench, no drive to gym so weather never matters.

Cons: Upfront cost (even though it does pay for itself), can't ask a bro for a random spot... Cant think of any others.

And being social is a 0 factor when considering "Gyms". Thats a personal preference and u choose to be a social at the gym, but you could do the same at literally any place.

My home gym = two dumbells and a bench. Enough to work the whole body, even if not optimally.

Basically if you don't give a chit about the social/sloot aspect, and have the money/space for a proper setup, there is no reason to NOT have a home gym. Just sayin...

No confirmed tracing ever at my gym, equipment cleaned daily and after every use (mostly), music through my noise cancelling Air Pods, legit 3 minute drive away, open 4AM to 11PM, deadlifting with chalk is all allowed, never need to wait more than 10 minutes for something, has AC with legit filters, brb $10 a month with a yearly $40 maintenance fee.

So my gym costs essentially $160 a year. Imagine I go to the gym for 25 more years. That's a net cost of $4,000 over 25 years. That's with a massive gym with state of the art locker room, brand new equipment, free classes for whatever you want, 20 foot high ceilings, every piece of equipment you could imagine with every attachment, and if something breaks it gets replaced with a new one in a month tops. So if you wanted a comparable home gym, you'd have to spend well over the $4,000. Maybe you get it cheaper, but the quality and amount of equipment is nowhere near the same.

Also a gym requires space that most people can't afford to lose. My basement is an entertainment center, and my garage is where I keep all of my tools, and I'm not putting it on the first or second floor so I can break the floors. I think having a home gym is definitely a convivence, even more so highlighted by the pandemic, but it has it's drawbacks. Most of the time you can't afford all the small gadgets and gizmos you want, there's no one else there and no social aspect. I myself don't talk to anyone, but its nice to see people and use that for motivation. It's also largely more expensive over the long term if chit starts to break. It very well could last a while, but then the chit gets dirty/rusted and isn't nice like a typical gym. Most of the time you're buying second hand cheaper expensive chit that already has wear/tear, or you're buying really cheap stuff that I would not trust with my life.

If it was different and I had to commute more than 15 minutes to a gym or it cost more than $50 a month, I'd be inclined to get my own home gym. Really depends on your situation, but for me, it makes no sense to have a home gym right now. But I am mirin those pics of the nice looking home gyms, would work out in if I had the chance.
SO many unanswered questions...

*Any confirmed tracing at your gym?
*How often is the equipment cleaned?
