A society where you are free doesn't exist. Unless you go buy a cheap ass plot in the middle of nowhere and figure out how to hunt/cook your food and build yourself a house.

But you won't do that because you are too comfortable with what you have so you can only moan on a forum. The free market is intrinsic to humans.

People make more and more money because they want to achieve something in life otherwise the brain feels a lack of purpose.

I simply suggest you pick a career that you like to make the journey more enjoyable and that can and will translate to higher wages.

I'm not sure where you're going with your post, I made a simple statement; $30k doesn't afford a nice house or used car.

So how does earning $30k make you the 1% again? Unless you expect Americans to move overseas?

I love money and being able to make it. Who doesn't want to make more money if they can?

When I closed on my commercial building while waiting for the fire dept to come perform their final building inspection for my occupancy certificate I was sitting there looking at duplexes and fourplexes for my next 'project'.

The chase is fun, the possibilities are exciting to think about, the acquisition is satisfying. I'm chasing my next high.

When I'm stagnant and unmotivated is when I find myself unhappy. Complacency is death.

Let me get this straight, I can’t pick anywhere in the world, but you can pick a specific place that has unusually high rent? And why is the rent high in that area? What education and skills do you have to offer employers in that area?

They don’t adjust the demographics to show the least disparity, they do it to show the most disparity. When compared across-the-board with median age, all groups have their wealth gap‘s greatly reduced. When Democrats talk about the poor versus the rich, they are literally comparing a large demographic of the youth versus median age groups. That’s politics 101. This is why people need to be educated on economics

I'm satisfied. I make good money and still live below means. It would take crazy money to make me consider living a different lifestyle. It's weird, just being able to buy something is enough now - (I don't have to have it)

It's never enough.

I remember thinking to myself when I was making 4-5k/mo, "man if I could just make $10k/mo I'd be killing it", once I hit $10k/mo that then became $15k, then $25k/mo, once I hit $50k/mo I wanted more. I've had been in the $40-50k/mo range for almost 2 years, now due to covid I'm in the 30k/mo range. I don't feel any worse or better being here, definitely have felt like I'm not working as hard I could be. I definitely stopped some careless spending just because I felt if I wasn't making what I was before, I shouldn't be recklessly spending like I had.

But it'll never be enough, you will always want more, making more made me happier. It wasn't exactly the financial impact, it was the achievement or success of hitting these $'s/goals I had set. As people have stated in this thread, it's almost the same as chasing that next high. But that next high requires a higher return/income.

When people get raises they also typically increase costs of living. Intentionally or otherwise. They eat out more often, contemplate less as long when debating buying a new toy/item, sign up for subscriptions and let 'em keep going, get some cosmetic work done they'd otherwise accept without, etc. All the while inflation continues, rent goes up, etc.

The only magic method to combat this is to realistically self reflect after a month to look at your statements, and make changes from there. Cook at home more often. Get a job or company that gives consistent annual raises averaging around 3-5% or more. Lock in your rent rate via a mortgage. Etc.

In general there's also the idea of: "Man if I made just $20k more this year I can buy a new car outright". Not only that but people want to compete and be better or flashier than their friends and family.

To feel better about my income I like to look at the average and median household incomes for the country, for my state, for my age, and as long as I'm close, or above, I'll feel reassured that I'm not falling behind. Even if some people I know in my immediate vicinity are doing better.

You're going to get 2 lambos for less than $400/mo each payment?

Honestly - that doesn't seem unrealistic.. 400 / mo a payment per car?

I continue pushing mostly for the future, where I will be or could possibly be in 20 years. Need to be able to provide good lives for the woman/kids/dogs, give them all the advantages I can, accumulate land and property to keep in the family, etc etc

Do enjoy nice stuff but honestly don't even need much for myself, I'm super low maintenance and am mostly interested in building prosperity for my fam and future generations

$1200 rent can be found across multiple states, not just specific areas. We're not talking about cities, we'll leave that out of the equation. I'm talking seemingly normal areas with nothing going on. Even rent in the South is going up. I look at Real Estate listings all day long. Why is it going up? I couldn't tell you, but you have to literally live in the middle of nowhere to afford rent on $30k. And if you live in the middle of nowhere, guess what? You're going to need a car for city jobs. So the money you saved on cheap rent is going towards car note, full coverage insurance, and gas.

99.9% of the misc considers $30k/yr poverty and will laugh in your face calling you a broke loser. So are you really gonna sit there and tell me with a straight face it's a good salary and affords a nice living?? That's $1800/month after taxes LMAOOO

I disagree. Plenty of boomers and folks of younger generations don't care about being rich. Their highlight is fishing, Kayaking, surfing, etc. For a lot of folks, money is a means to quit work. Overall happiness would go up for a lot of people if they could spend more time with their family and doing fun simple things.

Maybe it's the country boy in me, but I don't care about all that materialistic ****

AFAIK, societies like those still thrive on the free market - they have markets with currencies etc. The free market is as old as humans. That and consumerism are two distinct things. I live in Western Europe but I have detached myself from social media and the need to buy excessive stuff than the bare minimum to be functional.

Now just don't tell me what they fight each other to death for food weekly.

Edit: Bro, Latin America is a free market where you have to work to eat. Off-grid grow-it-yourself is just as available in the USA as in Mexico. A lot more people in Mexico are victims of violence and poverty that is unthinkable in the USA.
Actually all those tribes suffer because of capitalism. Big projects like mining and industrial logging are displacing them and literally killing them. Whenever they try to fight back against big capital destroying their ancestral lands the capitalists use paramilitary groups and cartels to kilk them off.

Look at the rate of homicides of environmental activists in Mexico, it's one of the most dangerous activities to do know in Mexico. They don't fight each other for food tbey fight against huge capitalist projects destroying their homes.

Google the EZLN group for example, they rebelles against the NAFTA agreement in 1994 because it would displace them, so they rebelled and raised an army to seize control of their lands from tbe hands of the government and neoliberalism. They succeeded and they still control vast areas of their state that they run more effectively through anarchy than the federal government.

Again nothing materialistic about it. It's chasing the high. After $15k/mo you have all the materialistic things you realistically want. Or you can afford it if you choose to, so you don't buy it because you dont actually need it.

You get that excitement from reeling in a big fish, other people get it from day trading or closing a big deal, whatever it is. To some people that gives them the same result as your 'relaxing' or 'fun' activity.

I have plenty of fun things I do, but it doesn't change that my day still consist of wanting to 'make more' or 'do more'.
