I think firmware OTA updates only really make sense for EVs, and all the new EV brands are doing it from NIO to Lucid to Rivian. Legacy automakers will lean more in that direction when their EV side is established.

Tesla = great to drive, insanely functional, every day driver.

But let's be honest...... These below are, and always will be the GOAT.

100% agreed, but I would say Tesla leads in this space as I have yet to see any Lucids and Rivians on the road. Software logistics can break at scale. I am not saying Rivian will fail, on paper they seem like a fine company and I surely hope they succeed. It will be interesting to see what its like once they hit real production scale and many cars roaming in the wild.

100% agreed and am still in the camp of if I had to chose I would of course choose the cars you listed and many others for the feedback and thrill of driving. But I still give credit where its due. That plaid is a badass car in its own right.

Tesla claims the Plaid will be able to do 200mph through a fabled upcoming software update, as is their modus operandi, but it's governed to 162mph and apparently it's terrifying to drive at that speed when compared to a Porsche or other top brands.

Hybrid powertrains are the GOAT
I think that is both impressive and lame thing about the car. The car looks like a damn Toyota Corrola and its kina dissapointing for arguably the fastest car out there now.

When they were making Tesla P should have made it look like Mclaren Senna or Ferrari to give it that wow aesthetic factor to go along with its impressive acceleration/speed

LOL you fukkin what mate

Most respected CEO's have one company they are known for. This guy is known for 4... Paypal , Tesla, SpaceX, and Boring company. Sure he just lucked out in all of them what a dumb thing to say.

Electric cars were laughed at by most automakers and now they are all getting on board ...the guy put all his millions from Paypal on the line and almost went bankrupt with Tesla. There were times where the company was less than a month away from bankruptcy...the guy was sleeping in the office...His achievements did not come from luck they came hard work and pure determination.

Also prior to SpaceX when you thought of rockets you thought about NASA. NASA had 100's of years in spacr industry and this guy comes along and says we going to land rockets and make space exploration less expensive and does it in a few years ....

Finally lol at people saying but it was not him that actually designed it was engineers like are you even a human being with a brain?

People like Elon and Steve Jobs are visionaries that bring a bunch of smart people together and have them create something amazing. No single engineer would have the means or the possibility to ever create a rocket that is able to land safely back on earth that job took 100 if not 1000's of smart people and alot of expensive trial and error.

Tesla the company existed before him, but it was a chit company with a bunch of idiots who wasted time and money on dumb stuff that wasn't gonna work. They were trying to refit existing cars with electric motors which was a bad idea. After a few months, the car was completely redesigned and was now mass-producible.

Inventions are a dime a dozen. Any idiot can design something and make it work. The real genius is in making it profitable to manufacture on a large scale and getting the finished product out the door. And I say that as an engineer who works in R&D, not some ****hot business/sales guy.
no phavgot, I'm an electrical engineer so I know what effort this takes to achieve. An ongoing senior project if funded properly could achieve the same. You suck elons dick because you don't know jack chit about the tech.

Please reference a similar "senior project" that you are aware of that achieved similar impact compared to what Tesla has done for EVs or SpaceX has done for space travel. Im seriously to see your perspective.

And Steve Jobs didn’t invent haptic feedback(touch screen), microchip, camera, the accelerometer, operating systems or anything; he doesn’t even have an engineering background - but he knew how to synthesize all those technologies together to deliver a supreme product. The Conductor can’t play any instruments but understands how each instrument melds together.

Tech is literally older than the ICE itself. Carmakers have been experimenting with EVs since forever, the reason they didn't become widespread - let's ignore hybrids for now - is because it's not actually possible to make a profit on them without government subsidies/tax cuts. Tesla now maybe had two or three quarterlies so far where they didn't burn an ungodly amount of cash. And that's with them selling their carbon quotas...

Also a lack of power grid, good enough batteries, and fast charging so you don't have to rest for half a day after driving for two hours or so. And let's not forget about "muh carbon" and "green energy" pushed by the governments.

Most companies, especially at this scale, lose a lot of money for decades. So are you ok with Biden's subsidies for car EV manufacturers that are union based? Hint: Tesla isn't union based.

It's always a drag race with this chit because those Tesla's are just overweight boats that are only good at one thing: 0-60 and short drag races. Lol @ racing a 1000cc bike built entirely around taking corners as well, if they wanted to prove a point they should have selected a basic drag bike, but those do a quarter mile in less than 10 seconds.

All Tesla vehicles do seem expensive af for what you get aside from acceleration, a new Model Y Long Range here is fukn $77k for what seems like a pretty basic vehicle. For that price you can get a top trim 2022 Lexus RX 350 with literally all the bells and whistles.

A Model Y Long Range with the standard wheels also has an estimated delivery of November 2022 right now

I wouldnt say its a one trick pony. Its only 30 seconds off the fastest top 10 Nuremburg ring times all held by hyper and super cars specc'd specifically for racing. Thats only 7% slower. The fact that you can remotely update its software and give it new function and feature is part of the impressive engineering. What other vehicle can you do that with?
"It just sucks at everything else a race car should be able to do" - but its not a race car. Its a grocery getter that happens to be able to smoke a lot of cars that are labeled as "race cars" including the two of mine in the garage.

" It's still very limited and any real performance car or bike will embarrass it pretty severely." - Ok but its a grocery getter.
I was waiting for the track argument, because I was just discussing this with a buddy who is all about EVs and brags about the Tesla Plaid regularly.

The Tesla Plaid was outpaced by an Audi RS3 around the Nurburgring (albeit barely). I don't disagree it's certainly an impressive vehicle, but comparing an EV to an ICE vehicle is apples to oranges. They operate in completely different parameters and EVs have an very unfair advantage compared to ICE, with the torque aspect being the biggest one. For this same reason is why it's not fair to compare a bike built for track in a drag race with a car that will specifically outshine most of it's competitors due to it's design.

even a 2020 C8 beats the Plaid, not even a Z06 model. As does a Cayenne Turbo GT.

If i was to get a Tesla it would have to be the x or the S .....

Model 3 looks fukkin terrible and dont even get me started on the tesla truck.

I really do think Tesla missed a big chance here. They could have designed a spercar body and put in Tesla P motor and been selling them for $1 million and it would have sold out in minutes. Instead they put the motor on a fukkin model 3 jesus christ atleast put it on model s way more aesthetic.
