Hey Quint.

I got so much on the go right now its crazy. I have 30 or 40 roughed out and in various stages of completion.

My shop is a bit tough to keep at the right temp for curing epoxy and painting in the winter, so I will be finishing them in the spring in a few months.

I will be keeping some, but planning on having 20 or so ready to sell when people get back into the swing of musky early summer.

I also started a not for profit recently called "lures for kids". Whole premise is sending fishing lures to kids around christmas time. Already partnered with several tackle shops and a supplier.

So trying to get that of the ground too lol

Im also looking for a bit of an edge, and am combining trapping with lure making...I am going to start tying musky bucktails with Black bear and wolf fur...This has never been offered before I dont think. Locally harvested bear and wolf/coyote fur, just going to be playing with blade colors and trying to get the powder coat paint to stay on them a bit better.

Do you have any videos/resources on lure makining? Very interested in the materials used and the whole process.

I went hard hard at stuff when I was young. Now that I'm a bit older you realize how truly short life is. Gotta keep pushing.

My goal is to fish one day per weekend all summer. I did pretty well this winter, smoked a ton of fish.

I wanna get the lures for kids thing off the ground this fall too.

I got it registered as a non profit! That's a start!

Nice fish buddy.

Are those fish pretty typical for what you catch? They look massive to me, but I'm accustomed to fishing on little streams out west where 2 lb is a good fish. This is what I'm used to catching:

I had to travel a couple hours to this spot, but they are decent fish. I don't normally travel much to fish.

I don't know what the deal is with embedding. Every once in a while I get someone who cant see my pics, but I think they usually work. Must be doing something wrong, but haven't figured it out yet. Here it is as an attachment.

Yep, fly rod. Actually, put that one together from a parts kit. You buy the rod blank, the guides, wrapping thread, grip, etc and then assemble everything. I have an 11' nymph rod almost complete right now.

laying out the guides:

homemade jig for wrapping the guides:

You put the rod in the v-shaped part and then wrap the thread to hold the guides in place. Once everything is wrapped you seal it with epoxy. It's not hard, just takes a bit of time. I enjoy working with my hands and this kind of thing gives me an outlet.

It's a fun change-up, but if I was catching them like you are, out on the lakes, I'm not sure I would take a break from that to catch the guppies I've been connecting with. I've done a bit of lake fishing with a fly rod, but on really big water conventional seems to be far more versatile. Fly fishing seems best suited to rivers. Could be showing my limitations as a fisherman, I'll admit I'm not expert. Looking forward to your lure making video. I tie flies and I enjoy catching fish with my own creations, so I get that.

Got you off recharge.

ETA: Got to get my bench cleaned up. It always gets a little out of control when I have multiple projects rolling.

So I was on a massive river last Thurs, and a ten lb laker on ten lb test line in that crazy current...would take like 6 minutes to get it.

Fish in current are a different beast!

We were drifting the current with 3 way rigs bottom bouncing.

I never fished like that before but damn!

Big for freshwater anyway.

My biggest until this point was 48". In the fall that 52" could be like 8 lbs heavier when they start packing on weight for winter.

Theres bigger out there. A 62" was netted as part of the MNR netting and tagging program here. Thats world record territory if caught in the fall.
