I remember it started to go downhill in 2014/2015 with all the lookizm blackpill incel *******s that were flooding this board everyday, then after 2016, like everything else, everything became political. Plus like others said - social media taking over online communications.

I do remember back in 2013 or so when the front page of the misc was changing at lightning speed. Like a thread would stay on the front page for like half a sec before another updated thread or new thread replaced it.

I don't even bring the lulz... and I recently caught a 3 month ban.

Ban happy mods/admins is usually the final phase of a forum's lifespan. The bans are done to appease the whiners who harass the mods about speech they don't like, but the end result is that the whiners obtain total control over the forum as a result. I've seen it happen before.

I've only recently come back to misc and I would say this. Doesn't help that now forums are locked away to newcomers, mods still banning people -> dwindling population. The dozen good mates I've met on here actually came to this forum because of misc then later got into losing weight or lifting. I was 1 of those people, joined for the memes, ended up losing a bunch of weight as a result of what people posted. The forum loses people by locking away what made bb forum what it is today. Misc is a cancer sure, could have made it so that posting here requires rep or after owning an account after x amount of time but locking it away entirely was a dumb move.

The Moderation.

There were numerous mods who banned people for petty or emotional grievances, like KenKong who banned anyone who insulted his boyfriend Bobby.

Also mods with a clear political agenda that would ban anyone opposed to their agendas.

Mods like Iceman who would ban people for sexism or offending female posters.

When you look at it objectively many mods were not interested in enforcing the rules but rather trying to mold the misc to their own personal, subjective bias. Many mods saw themselves as content quality control rather than just rule enforcers. Their big egos helped annihilate this place.

This forum used to filled with lulzy threads with pics. Remember when people used to demand "Spoon pics?" Then slowly the people who carried the forum started to get banned. Even reds in those days were funny. And who could forget when they almost nuked the forum with the 2014 (maybe 2013) redesign? They had that stupid scrolling banner at the top of the page that would take up like 25% of the screen when reading posts. Now the forum is filled with incel and political threads, which completely fukked it. I long for the days when people used to make "Wat Do" threads.

Remove the politics and it will be some other topic that kills the forum, thus it's not the topic per se... it's the chitty members (usually not many, but enough that they can coerce the mods into acting to appease them) who try to wrestle control of the forum so that they can control the content. That's what doxxing is all about. Doxxing is a sociopath's way of trying to control a forum by making those who oppose them fearful. It's about power and control. It's not about specific topics. People like that (*cough* Wincel *cough*) can make the mod job a miserable one. Eventually the mod resigns or gives in to them. Those people kill forums.

Same here.

The first time I got banned was for answering the question "Why don't escorts want to see black guys". Since I actually know escorts and so on for work, I knew the answer.

I supplied the answer and got banned.

That mods not moderating but moderating based on feelings and ego. As I've said, you have to be a very smart person to moderate conversations.

when i joined in 2015 this place was still super active and cool and fun/funny.

i feel like it got really depressing in 2016 when trump became president, and then got even worse in 2020 when covid hit. like all the miscers died or something. this place feels like a ghost town sometimes, just spam/trash threads made by the same dozen troll miscers.

it's a sign of the times, but also a social media thing. younger people aren't really looking to join dated forum/message boards when reddit and twitter exist. I personally really enjoy the slower pace of forums and I'm active on a few others like NeoGAF and IGN Vestibule.
