They believe Trump or others in the GOP are compromised or just ideologically hostile to NATO and will seek to disband or weaken NATO, which would then open the door long term for Putin to invade Lithuania and/or Moldova or something and then keep rolling through the Baltics. The situation is more complex than you think, Dave. And it is possible they are right even though I don't think so. They fear a long term plan to rebuild the USSR. It sounds farfetched, but it is a fact Putin invaded, and it is a fact he has repeatedly and consistently annexed little bits and pieces of territory over the years.
Now, Putin has pledged explicitly not to do this for this very reason. He has said he won't militarize Russia. We'll just have to see what happens here.

And Russia can barely take the small parts of Ukraine that it acquired, but it's suddenly gonna be like a C&C computer game, where they take over all of Europe???

I agree with you. I find the hypothesis and reasoning to be wrong. But remember, Russia is quite powerful with their weapons. Imagine Putin assembles a military of like 10 M people while we are in a social collapse and have pulled out of NATO. One could see him going after Lithuania specifically to get a land connection to Kaliningrad.
It may not seem likely, but it is always something to fear. I don't completely trust Putin and neither should anyone. This guy has and will kill for Russian power and has already launched an invasion. We have only his word he won't militarize his country. But his word doesn't mean much nowadays.
For the record, I agree with you. I am just showing the other side's view.

And he'd need a ginormous army like that to rebuild the USSR. He couldn't do it with what he has now.
This is devil's advocate. I realize how it sounds farfetched, and that's because it is. It would literally be WW3.

Also, when wars tend to drag on, it usually turns the population against the country waging it.
Vietnam dragged on, and look what happened.
Look at what happened with Afghanistan when it came to the Russians, and with us.
The Iraq-Iran war lasted 8 years. Did Saddam suddenly raise an army of 5 million and take Iran??? Did the Ayatollah of Iran???
And you think if he somehow raised an army of 10 million, the world is just going to be like, "Oh well......"

Depends. Russia is authoritarian and capable of sliding back. Saddam didn't have the economy or power to do it. I'll remind you it wasn't too long ago the USSR had an enormous military. Even before they collapsed, they had 2 million men.
No. The world would fight. That's why it would be WW3. But if America went full isolationist, it might invite an attack on those states.
Can't help but notice you're deliberately ignoring that I agree with you and am simply being devil's advocate here. You already know my position on Russia.

This is a very interesting yet complex topic but the substantive information is public and if you are smart, you can read.
Trump says Putin wouldn't have invaded if he were in office, well, let's examine the claim. Russia invaded Ukraine for the same reason anyone does anything, motive and opportunity. Putin was motivated by fear, fear Ukraine, a country on it's border would fall under the complete control of Western Bloc and he was given the opportunity to act due to the political actions of the U.S. which caused oil to become extremely valuable.
Would Trump have given Putin motive and opportunity by threatening to take control of Ukraine and place it in the Western Bloc or would he tell Ukraine to fend for themselves, come out with a deal and save innocent lives? Would Trump promise to shutdown oil production in America while America's federal reserve raised interest rates aggressively but too late? If Trump wouldn't do these things then the chances of Russia invading Ukraine are far below 50%.
As things stand today Russia will take over parts of Ukraine if not the whole country, they are taking it whether Ukraine allows it or not, the question is, how many must die first?

oh wow... give up territory in ukraine to russia that is pro russia anyway or allow the biggest money laundering operation to continue...
only way i support the latter is if it ends up sending chit libs and OP to kyiv. i think its time for cocktail/limousine liberals, along with their peasants: the fake lawyers, chit smearers that have fake degrees, dying chitbaggers, rapey diabetics etc. go fight for your country, ukraine.

As for collusion? Collusion isn't a crime and is without explicit legal meaning. And if someone is claiming Trump was 'exonerated' from collusion Mueller's words were the exact opposite and you can't be exonerated from collusion anyway since it's not a crime.
