Basically instead of the Sprint result being your starting position for the race, they will now be treated as two 100% separate events and each will have their own qualifying, which will replace FP2 on the sprint weekend.

This will incentivize drivers to actually push hard on Sprint races, because they would be allowed to fix the cars if they break before the next quali, unlike the way the Sprint weekends currently go due to Parc Ferme conditions.
I think it would be cool if teams started sitting out sprint races LOL. Like, "hey FIA, this is so pointless that we won't do it."

Also, the fact that drivers are unanimous about eliminating 2 practice sessions was kind of surprising to me.

What kind of people do they even hire that come up with these ideas? I get some broader idea of virtue signaling, making more efficient fuel and having an electrical part of the motor, sure. But who the fuk comes up with these extremely weird ideas?

The FIA must be a committee of middle aged American females.

I mean, they really don't need it. These guys know the tracks well before they even get there. And by that I mean not only the drivers but the engineers. They go into the weekend already knowing 90% of how they're setting the car up. One session is generally plenty enough to get the last 10% dialed in. From there all they're doing is playing with fuel loads, tires, etc.

He's making $24m this year to be a bench warmer.

Imagine THAT.

GOATlonso is getting $5m racing every weekend and landing podiums.

V10 to Vsoy

Pit Girls to rainbow shirts

They should make teams only use a single tire all weekend, you know to save the environment of all that rubber.

Maybe not racing for the last month is part of the environment thing....

Per what Max has been saying with not being home for so long,

they really could get rid of all these "bye" weeks and easily compress the season down to ~4-6 months as opposed to 9 months

Especially for rookies..... 3 races in 8 weeks, how are they supposed to get in a groove.

I feel like they easily could have gotten a race in easily at one of the many Australian Circuits, or even something like Portugal that do race

It's definitely a 100% improvement in every way for Sprint weekends.

FP 2 used to be 100% pointless because they couldn't change anything on the cars anyway. Also now if they fk a car up during the sprint, they're allowed to fix it. Before, that would be a penalty. This will definitely incentivize teams to really take Sprints more seriously and not play it so safe.

I agree that new sprint format > old sprint format.

What I'm not sure of is if I prefer any kind of sprint format over the regular format. It just adds needless complexity to try and earn more money imo.

The fact that the drivers don't get fired up for the sprint kind of says a lot.... Seems pointless.

Yes but now it literally can be treated with the same level of importance as a race, just not as many points. They have nothing to lose really unless they completely total the car.

Two qualies, a sprint race and a regular race on this circuit. FIA better raise the cost cap with a few mil just because of that lmao.
