If someone wants to sacrifice their time to make money, to spend their money on a $3000 dinner to make them happy, then all the more power to them. They shouldn't concern themself with some anonymous miscers on an internet forum opinion on that. You honestly sound "mad" about it to make a post about it. You did start this thread, no?

All I am saying is that the counter to your opinion is that.. nah, it ain't cope. I'm not mad about your post, I just don't see any factual basis on it.

So I ask, where's the cope?
You don't understand the concepts you refer to. "Spending time to make money" makes it seem as if folks can't enjoy what they do (e.g., making a pizza) while getting paid for it, because they would have "sacrificed their time for money". There is a massive conflation of concepts here, all based on your personal projection which seems to be that spending time basking in the glory of your god is your prime goal in life and the afterlife.

Enjoy. But abdicating yourself from the world around you in this way is the coping mechanism I refer to.

Clearly I have struck a nerve, hence why you continue projecting your faith and your cope around you.

Put simply, there are folks here who have 'earned money' who have 'done more with that money' than your entire family tree has done for humanity. For all your 'faith', you haven't done much to pursue your religious ideals. Rather counterintuitive, no?

Some of us look at life and decide what it is we truly want then do what we have to do to obtain it while slaving the least amount of time. Others look at life more arbitrarily with the perspective that they want as much as they can get.
That's an infantile way of looking at the world - overly simplistic. "Slaving" "as much as they can get", shows a maladjusted character - that you lay claim to leading the best life a human can lead just shows your delusion.

That's the point of this thread - thanks for highlighting it for me.

Your mind is closed. "Time" is the ultimate sacrifice. It's the only thing we cannot get more of. Some find what they believe is their balance of sacrifice for time because there is only 24 hours in a day. Some sacrifice all their time to make money (to spend it, invest it, to do something with it), some sacrifice a little of their time to making money, others don't sacrifice any of their time to make money, and everything in between.

We sacrifice our time for family, work, worship, fun, friends, hobbies. All a sacrifice. Everyone has to find their balance and not concern themselves with others as long as they are happy with the result of their sacrifice.

Worship is a sacrifice of time. You sacrifice time to just pray. You sacrifice time to attend and participate in Mass. You can sacrifice time to make money and worship... millions of happy people do this.

If you cannot understand this concept, then that's it.

I'm going to sacrifice my time to go to the gym now. Gotta make them gainz.
I'm not blessed with riches, but I am rich with blessings.
Thank you, LORD, my God.

It can be nice to have lots of money. Not like I've been there, just have known some people.

It can also be a PITA.

My interest in having it was about security and family. I can see if someone feels they have enough and doesn't feel responsible for any dependents deciding that they don't want to chase it anymore.

If what you're passionate about in life aligns with money -- chase that dream. As for me, I'm waking up at noon and going swimming again. Thursday the gf wants me up in the morning to go gem mining at some place a few hours away...she knows my style though and said I can sleep in the car on the way there.

But dude, I've been there and done that. I've lived for years off of 30k a year stipends with no obligations other than check ins with my supervisor (which I could do down the bottom of a well if need be). It's not right. Man isn't meant to be up at noon and doing nothing all day. Even despite having a goal to work for-- my doctorate-- eventually the lack of structure and bare amount of money wears you down mentally.

It sounds good on paper, but years into it, it will affect your mental health. It's not the way the brain or humans evolved.Evenafter your eventual retirement with hypothetical millions of dollars, you're not meant to stop working. You're just escaping the rat race.

All that money simply facilitates you being active in the way you want to be. Travel, hobbies, public speaking tours, volunteer work, open a restaurant, create a start up etc. You are never, ever, meant to be inactive.
Back off, Warchild.

Seriously.

That you see the world around you as an immensity of 'sacrifice' shows that you don't understand what the word means, and yet you keep insisting that you know what it means for all people e.g., to meet a friend is "all a sacrifice".

You fall into my definition in the OP, which is why you seem particularly disturbed by the fact that some folks have done much, much more for others with their "almighty dollars" than your praying and self-focused existence has ever achieved.

Let that sink in, if it can.

Note that here, the narcissistic and sycophantic OP implicitly assumes there is an absolute and objective scale of what "better" means. He also seems to think everyone ought to share his preferences on how best to spend their time, such as on chasing clout or accumulating material goods. OP should review Arrow's theorem before he commits suicide or is killed by someone he attempts to impose his will upon lol. There is no global morality or absolute hierarchy to define what a "better" life is. It is inherently subjective.

The point isn't about "having money for its own sake". The OP clearly shows the sorts of people that are giving lots of financial and life advice on this forum lately. Some of them have difficulty 'eating out' once in a while, and at least one is a derelict parent too.

It's not about "how much money you have", it's what you do with it, and as I've said multiple times elsewhere: "retirement is a number, not an age". But ITT, I have also said multiple times that some folks who earn and earned a lot of money give away the vast majority of it. And, in doing so, contribute much more than unemployed LARPers who 'checked out' think they do by having 'checked out' to 'retire cheap'.

Again how are you measuring contribution? You seem to have an internalized view of a hierarchy aka an ordering on individuals to define what is a better or worse life. You expect everyone else to share your preferences on how best to spend time. This is idiotic.

I don't think you've even thought it through. Can you compare any two people, for example, to decide whose life is "better"? Does it even respect transitivity? If person A beats person B, but person B beats person C, does that imply A beats C?

I don't think you have the slightest idea what you are talking about.

Why do you think your ability to relax is unique to you? I also sleep a solid 8+ hours. I also go swimming, and the gym. I also eat at nice restaurants, and spend time with my wife. All while managing very gainful employment as well as collecting rents from the tenants in my investment properties as a side hustle.

All so thatmyretirement number can be reached.

Just a little reality check, as your pontificating about your mistakes in life is itself cope when faced with the truth that is mine.

Your real objective here is to feed your personal insecurity. You want people to praise you to help fill that hole in your life. You feel a constant need to "mog". You want to measure your dick somehow and win. Well, you can whip it out, but any one of us could just cut it off. So, you'd do well to remember that, I think.

It's a bit cynical IMO, but I take the message as that the "happiness" awarded from consumerism is fleeting and can entrap you in a vicious cycle. I do not see anything wrong with taking joy in a frugal and simple/minimalist lifestyle. I also understand some may seek more. I condemn those that seek what I perceive as excesses at the expense and oppression of others. But that is my own personal value. I don't expect others to agree. I expect us to fight over it. I expect to destroy them. That's the commie way.

That 'life of leisure' typifies 'checking out'. The person you're speaking with there has a child being raised by extended family since he can't hack it. The very idea of 'trying' is too stressful for him, and he doesn't understand that those with high incomes can also kick back and relax.

But our feet are on his back, so to speak. He's deliberately oblivious to that fact - that's the COPE I point out ITT.

That's true. The only thing to debate to yourself is sometimes at Costco. I want peanut butter but fuk not a gallon of it, or do I? It shouldn't take more than a second to figure out.

You'll get put on the naughty list if you don't abide.

Wanting for nothing is not allowed. You must play the game in order to give validation to others who do play.

Exactly what I took from it. Some need others to play and become part of the cycle to validate their choices or how well they've played the game in their mind.

He is right about one thing. IDK about him, but many of the ultra wealthy Americans do have their feet on the backs of everyone else. They do exploit the labor of others and oppress them. And those men who yearn to be free or those who feel for the oppressed will need to fight for that freedom. The class war exists. Your primary source of income is either from capital or from your labor. If it is from capital, then your economic motives are inherently opposed to those of the laborers. And in our society, especially among those who own a lot of capital, oppression exists and is widespread. And we should not forget how our country uses its military to oppress and exploit the world as well. Those people need a voice too. They deserve justice imo. Again, I don't expect everyone to agree. I expect those who disagree to fight us and die miserably.

That's not what he said though.

What he actually said, he has a point

Gen Z? LMAO

Technically I'm only 5 years removed from the start of the "Gen Z" generation. So I'm not much different here.

I'm not advocating that Gen Z is some almighty generation, but you have to look at things practically here. Going to school to get a bachelors degree is now the minimum, before it was considered extra.

And just like the post above me said, you legit need a dual income to survive. Or you have to live very minimally in a low cost of living area. Working hard doesn't seem worthwhile if the environment around you just keeps inflating in cost.

And we haven't even got to the dating world yet. Divorce rates, dating apps, yikes.

It reeks of a LARP - some hammer and sickle crew offshoot here, a relic from that moderator who was trying to recruit leftist lunatics, lol.

One of them here eats out at McDonalds for his 'treat'. My rate dinner threads would send him into a seizure, as did my rate lunch thread because 'omg 2 sandwiches' to the moron on the first page crying 'consumerism'. LOL
