I hear about male and female mental health equally. I have never felt it leaned one way or another. Please don't be like the annoying feminist kunts we hate and bring the same taint to the male sex.

Is enough awareness being raised about mental health? No, not even close.

Is it leaning predominantly towards female mental health? Not at all. If I had to pick a side I'd say it leans towards male mental health, if anything.

Tempted to neg, and I never neg. And I won't neg. But let it be known, I was tempted.

I believe the point of the thread is to point out how males have such a higher rate of suicides but no one really brings it up. Mental health is overlooked in general but maybe there needs to be a focus on why it is that men are killing themselves at such higher rates. Also the general outlook by society that men should "man up." I feel mental health disorders are looked down on as weakness and people who do not experience them think everyone should be able to just will themselves out of things like depression and anxiety

The disproportionate male suicide rate is global, with the exception of China (men and women kill themselves at equal rates).

So your conspiracy theory appears to be bunk.
Same with autism or diagnosis of it. Hardly ever see a little girl with it. why is that? they arent immune to thsi stuff.
Simon Baren Cohen has created an hypothesis that an 'extreme male brain' seems to lead to a higher incidence of autism...

Virtue signalling leftists in the UK have started now.

And they're like "OMG it's because men don't talk about their feelings". Fuking triggers me so hard. Obvious that they don't really care and just want to turn us into pussies. Probably most men get more depressed if they talked about it because women would laugh and tell them to man up, and friendzone them for life.

brb talk about depression brb cured. Doesn't work that way for 99.999999% of men. They are a bunch of dumb fuks and should be fired by a cannon into space.

In the US or west, the disproportionate white male suicide rate, is probably due to whites making up the majority of the population.

It's troubling mane. I had a friend who was accused of rape. He hung himself in his room that night. That's like 1% of why guys commit suicide but something has to be done about men feeling really isolated in society with no one to express their feeling to. Even if you have a girl, she won't give a fuk or won't understand if you're mental health is all phucked up.

It's because for most reality comes crushing down on men (from a white male's perspective here) in their 30-50's when they are either divorced or single, work in a job they despise, and have sacrificed their best years and dreams to conform to a society that not only doesn't appreciate them, but ridicules them and, through the mountain of debt and child support, they don't see a way out. It's sad, but it's a product of the feminized/ leftist society we live in, and it will reach a breaking point. Either we return to our roots and what made the West great, or a more masculine culture like Islam will take over.

EDIT: Isolation in our digital age is also a contributor, just look at Japan.

The same reason why prostate cancer research doesn't get nearly as close funding as breast cancer research even though the number of sufferers is just as many.

I blame mainstream media hype, big business and feminism equally.
Thus let me live, unseen, unknown;
Thus unlamented let me die;
Steal from the world, and not a stone
Tell where I lie.

I disagree. I think we need to personal, and cultural therapyto help change things.

On a cultural level...

Status-anxiety.

I think is the concept is directly related to a lot of cripplingly low self-esteem in society. And motivates a lot of bullying (from parents, or peers) - parents bully kids if they 'make them look bad', and peers bully people who they see as 'below them'.

I think we need to identify, and readdress our attitudes towards 'success' and status, and I think we need more consoling culture.

In all honesty (and I don't belong to any religion) I think religious attitudes towards status need to make a resurgence. For all it's faults, religion (through the teaching of and actions from figures like Christ and Buddha) teach us to develop a sense of common humanity with those who society looks down upon.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iipn6yM43sM

Parenting.

I think a lot of people have children, just because they want to. And don't consider if they are psychologically healthy enough to have kids.

IMO and IME, if you are psychologically unhealthy you will tend to raise psychologically unhealthy children - even if you don't want ton. Any psychotherapist will state that the shape and quality bond with our parents profoundly impacts our self image, and relationships (of any kind).

This video explains the basics of how our childhoods can phuck us up...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DQA0ec39HNc

The Need To Develop Technologies To Heal Trauma.

IME and through research, the best method of healing trauma is through a succession of approaches.

Neil Strauss followed that path to heal his childhood trauma in his book, and PTSD expert Michelle Rosenthal used as similar approach. A lot of stories I've read of people who have attained psychological health, consciously or unconsciously - do so through going through a succession of healing approaches... Self-help, religion, professional therapy, exercise, nutrition, art, etc.

Instead of having one therapist - or one form of therapy - for years on end, you switch your form of therapy, say every 3 months or so. Approaching the problem from various angles, seems to be more effective than trying to stick with one approach.

It's like weightlifting, you need to change programming routinely, for maximum results.

However, despite that approach being effective, it's expensive.

So working class/people living in poverty, who want therapeutic approaches to heal trauma have to rely on religion, philosophy, or self-help.

I look forward to technological advancement, that can make more effective pharmacological interventions, and AI/computer programs that can provide therapy.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5u45-x0-zoY

Emotional technology/affective computing isn't a far-fetched notion. It is currently being developed.

Religion.

I think we need a resurgence of religion.

But forms of religion that are compatible with humanist values, like secularism, egalitarianism, scientific inquiry, and free inquiry.

Here Atheist Alain De Botton lays out a case for the merits of religion...

The exploitative capitalistic economic system along with demonic usury banking system which creates economic slaves and debt ridden servants is one of the main reasons for male depression in the West. A lot of the social ills stem from economic ills. Realising you are an economic slave until the day you die or having to work just to survive is a life crushing blow for many.

Obviously social ills like feminism and break down of family also play a major role but economics trumps all especially in the West.

not reading the entire thread, but other than the whole "stop being a pussy/man up thing"

we also live in a time where showing off and bragging about how happy and great your life is such a necessity to most people these days especially girls

if these same people see that someone especially a guy is depressed they automatically think 'loser with chit life' which no guy wants to be deemed on top of being depressed

I used to complain alot. Now I was convinced I need to be on meds, which I take daily for anger and anxiety. Now I try to keep to myself about it, and I managed it. In my experience, the more I cry to others, the more people I drive away. Ain't nobody got time for that. If I did feel like my heart was full and I needed to vent, I'd probably seek a support group. I will NEVER discuss my baggage in a normal or non-mental health setting.

It's a system that will fix itself my friend

The Earth is a system that will seek to return itself to nature, you can't destroy it. If we burned down 99% of all the tree's there would be too little oxygen and enough humans would die so that there isn't enough humans left to keep burning trees, then the tree's would repopulate and humanity would come back more slowly and might learn it's lesson not to burn down all the trees.

The oppression causes the environment for depression, but what you now have are millions upon millions of men with a deathwish, they don't want to go on living. Give those millions a cause and they'll die for it in the process restoring order, and maybe humanity will learn it's lesson about creating the types of system we have inplace today

Thanks to depression I'm bipolar so I lose it around people sometimes lol. Even at work I try to hold it in but just end up acting rude or distant towards people. It's a bad feeling faking your smile everywhere you go, I want to change this but I can't seem to stay in a good mood

Feeling like you have no purpose in life is a rather legitimate claim for depression. That's why you see the suicide rate increase dramatically for men after retirement.

You really need to study brain chemistry. Depression can be triggered in anyone regardless of life circumstances as a result of a neurochemical imbalance.

Have you watched the recent Joe Rogan Podcast with DR Rhonda Patrick, where she discusses studies that show a positive correlation with depression and inflammation?

She also talks about how to heal inflammation (ie. avoid sugar, consume anything than water within an 12 hours window, and grow your own broccoli sprouts to eat, decrease lifestyle stress, aerobic exercise).

I experienced the link recently. My stomach issues flared up, and everytime I would have a bout of stomach pain, or discomfort I my mood would noticeably drop, and I would have a lot negative thoughts (I suffered from depression from 17 to 22, and it was the same mindset). Then after the pains or discomfort passed, I would go back to my general optimistic mood.

From this experience I realised first hand that the 'gut-brain' connection was real, and after listening to Dr Rhonda Patrick, I realised that inflammation in my stomach was probably the culprit.
