You group yourselves. ie Jesse Williams complaining about cultural appropriation @ BET awards. I never saw a Death Metal artist complaining that non-Whites are listening to that genre.

I have seen, and somewhat experienced that myself (I was never a career criminal, nor did I want to be, but I did try weed for the first time when I was 15 because I heard about rappers talking about how great it was).

I have seen many black kids growing up, who come from decent social environments, think that being 'ghetto' is 'being black'.

I don't think enough black people acknowledge the pressure within the black community to conform, often to negative stereotypes.

Being articulate is only OK if you drop slang/ebonics every few words, and display a 'ghetto side', or OK if you are religious.

If you are interested in things like; diverse genres of music, classical literature, philosophy, science, and speak with grammatically correctly english you are a 'coconut', 'sell out', 'house negro', 'white washed', etc.

Noone ever question the 'blackness' of a career criminal who sells crack (destroying their own community, and families), or is in prison for murdering someone. They are unquestionably 'real nikkas', and are never challenged on that front.

What does it say when black identity is seen being affirmed if you are a murderer and crack dealer, but abusively challenged if you like to read study latin and play the violin in your spare time?

Muthafukca, I don't give a fukc about Jesse Williams. Never even knew who he was until a thread was made here about him. Let it go.

Lol @ we group ourselves. I'm 35 goddamn years old. I don't listen to rap like that, don't have an idea of these new acts, nor do I care. But yeah, we're all grouped together......just because we're Black. Listen to how you sound right now.

Justin Bieber can drive drunk, get pulled over and have drugs on him? Are you grouped with him because you're a White male?

Lindsay Lohan can get arrested multiple times for coke, go to jail, repeatedly....every White girl trying to be like her? They grouped together too?

Jared Fogle can fukc little kids....you grouped together with That?

Wedon't focus on rappers, pop culture gets criticized all the time. Dude... I used to be a muslim, pop music and pop culture was heavily criticized, the same is true in the christian community (my family is largely christian).

I am focusing on hip hop, because I know many fellow black brahs complain about being negatively stereotypes, and the problems within black communities.

Yet, they don't seem to challenge the culture within those communities.

In general.

I have been very poor, and I have lived a comfortable though working class life. From experience and observation, fellow poor people have chittier upbringings than middle class kids.

Often absent or poor relationships with fathers is common, as is psychological or physical abuse from parents, as is growing up around violence in their social environment.

My cousin went to a grammar school (a school for smart and - often - middle class kids in the UK). She came from a working class background like me, we compared notes. The way I described my school experience was foreign to her, she was baffled when I described the psychological and physical abuse that many people experienced, that was an accepted part of school life.

Pretty interesting statement considering it was large corporations that heavily funded the most gruesome violent shock valued rap music (gangsta rap) to reach a massive amount of people, way more than what these individual rappers could've done on their own.

... since we're talking about taking responsibilities and all

All in all it seems hip hop started as a by-product of it's environment and a retaliation to songs that masked the issues in the black community. It was destroyed by the glorification of violent crimes and materialistic behavior - mainly because that chit sold all over (and definitely not just to black people). Since music is arguably one of the most influential industries, it's no surprise it has an iron grip on those who's lifestyle is similar to it - which is most likely why black communities take an even harder hit than any other community listening to it. There are indeed pockets of great hip hop out there that has positive messages, but OP is talking about the mainstream negatives.

You guys keep strawmanning me.

I am not saying that music is what caused it, however...

Art propagates values, art is an integral part of any culture, the dominant form of art in hip hop culture is music, and the music promotes the lifestyle of a semi-literate career criminal.

Also always found it funny how that 2 of the 3 biggest rappers are not associated with the ghetto culture at all, and they say that even if they grew up around they always were that smart kid that stayed out of dumb unnecessary trouble.

Also the majority of the trap rappers are scrubs or fakes and the ones that are actually about that life end up like Kodak black (free the finesse kid tho)
It's nor just music. It's a subculture. By listening to it..however small the amount - you fall under the stereotypes associated.

Lol, gotta love that selective targeting.
This.

I don't really understand why middle class whites think they have any valid opinion on these topics.

Minorities in ghettos have had DECADES of underinvestment by the government in their communities, a lack of the government giving companies tax breaks to set up locations in their neighborhoods, lack of quality schooling/teachers/supplies, police OVERWHELMINGLY targeting them, and drug laws that targeted minorities with prison sentences 100 to 1 vs. whites (the last 2 explain the massive back prison population, not that blacks do more crime you morons). By the way, congress has admitted they were wrong and the 100:1 prison sentences were racist and unjust.

Guess what? Hip hop was born out of white America ****ing blacks over time and again. FIX ALL THE INJUSTICES DONE TO MINORITIES AND MAYBE THINGS CAN START TO IMPROVE QUICKER.

Blacks that bash hip hop like OP are called uncle toms becuase they've internalized all the self blame white guys are spewing in this very thread. Stop looking at black folks as 1 person. Al sharpton does not represent all blacks' views. All blacks don't love hip hop (a huge amount love all other genres). All blacks don't have huge dicks. All blacks can't dance really well. most black men do not prefer white women. Did you notice white propel are never lumped like this and are always looked at first as individuals? Minorities do not get this privileged... White people have reduced minorities into convenient buckets and them blame them for things based on these bull**** categorizations. Yes, blacks no matter their background should have the right to listen to ratchet hip hop and still be respected as educated/individuals/non dangerous/whatever else becuase no one categorizes whites as anything negative for listening to death metal/satanic imagery in music/intense drug condoning rock/etc.

The only reason these threads blow up is becuase when someone says the above, white folks get self conscious and upset. It's he greatest switcharoo ever. Want to have a frank discussion? Let's do it, but no one should have to make white people feel comfortable when we're talking about the decades and centuries MINORITIES have been mistreated. White folks feelings and comfort should not be the forefront, but they always end up being the forefront. White people just need to listen. Yea it sucks most of your ancestors did bad things. But guess what? You benefit from it and have privilege. Am I saying you also did NOT work hard to get where you're at? NO! But whether you realize it or not your privilege WAS one thing among many that got you to where you're at. Whites privilege is not something minorities get to use in their arsenal of getting ahead In life.... And it's a BIG tool. And denial of that plus bucketing them is what pisses minorities off.

White folks don't have any thing appropriated because white propel control this country. They were the ones who barred blacks from getting an education, getting equal jobs, etc. so blacks built several things from scratch... Hip hop being one of them. It's one of the few things whites could not decide to let blacks into or not. And now whites have corporatized it and appropriated it.

You wrote this, and then you wrote this...
All blacks don't love hip hop (a huge amount love all other genres). All blacks don't have huge dicks. All blacks can't dance really well. most black men do not prefer white women.
Which is complaining about stereotyping black people.

Which is exactly what I wrote about in the OP.

I never said that 'all black people are like such and such', I was arguing against stereotyping regardless of who it's done by.

You seem to only dislike stereotyping when it's done by white people, but take issue with me criticizing the stereotypes of black males that hip hop promotes.
becuase no one categorizes whites as anything negative for listening to death metal/satanic imagery in music/intense drug condoning rock/etc.
You and Yiamsomebody are incredibly ignorant of the amount of criticism that the rock, and the psychedelic sub-cultures endured from the mainstream.

Please do some research, seriously.

Here is Frank Zappa contesting the cautionary labeling of rock lyrics, at a senate hearing...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hgAF8Vu8G0w

You are both playing the race card, due to probable ignorance of things like the just linked senate hearing.

The Parents Music Resource Center (PMRC) was an American committee formed in 1985 with the stated goal of increasing parental control over the access of children to music deemed to be violent, have drug use or be sexual via labeling and censorship. The committee was founded by four women: Tipper Gore, wife of Senator and later Vice President Al Gore; Susan Baker, wife of Treasury Secretary James Baker; Pam Howar, wife of Washington realtor Raymond Howar; and Sally Nevius, wife of former Washington City Council Chairman John Nevius. They were known as the "Washington wives" -- a reference to their husbands' connections with government in the Washington, D.C. area.

In August 1985, 19 record companies agreed to put "Parental Guidance: Explicit Lyrics" labels on albums to warn of explicit lyrical content. Before the labels could be put into place, the Senate agreed to hold a hearing on so-called "porn rock". This began on September 19, 1985, when representatives from the PMRC, three musicians -- Dee Snider, Frank Zappa, John Denver -- and Senators Paula Hawkins and Al Gore testified before the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee on "the subject of the content of certain sound recordings and suggestions that recording packages be labeled to provide a warning to prospective purchasers of sexually explicit or other potentially offensive content."

During his statement, musician and producer Frank Zappa asserted that "the PMRC proposal is an ill-conceived piece of nonsense which fails to deliver any real benefits to children, infringes the civil liberties of people who are not children, and promises to keep the courts busy for years dealing with the interpretation and enforcement problems inherent in the proposal's design."

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PMRC

There is simply no way you can claim that hip hop has been singled out, it is demonstrably false.

Read this article everyone, think it fits perfectly in with what OP is talking about.

Please read BetaAsPhuck.

I see what he is getting at about rejecting Pavlovian conditioning and stereotypes about who you are and what you're capable of...
Do you find the heading of this piece alarming? Good! You should.

Being black carries with it a stigma. One that is held high by every so-called race on planet earth. Nothing that comes along with being black is good. Unless of course we talk about the physical body. Anything related to being physical is gloried.

The women are glorified for their curvy bodies or their beautiful nappy or curly hair. Both the man and woman are gloried in the sports arena, music, dance and acting. (as if thats all we can do). Serena Williams is an icon, because of her body. Her curvy look mixed with a body that cannot be stopped on the tennis court. Lebron James is the equivalent to a monster on the basketball court. Youll even see him pictured on Vogue Magazine where they liken him to King Kong. Basically, they called him a monkey. And black people, for the most part, were either fine with that or completely missed the reference. Donald Sterling showed the truth about how these white sports owners really feel, and what did we do about it? NOTHING!

I dont want to be black anymore..

Why are we not looked at as intellectual beings? Not even by our fellow black peers. When a black person dare use their brain and think outside the box for once, they are deemed fake woke. Or another response is, its not that deep. Oh, but it is! We should always look deep into things to find what is hidden. Often, we find something is there. Could it be that we lack so much knowledge as individuals that the crabs in the bucket mentality kicks in?

Why is it taboo for us to be THINKING? Why cant a black person be intelligent? Is it because we rarely see examples of intelligence? Im sure thats a large chunk of it. And the damage from the school system runs deep. They have brainwashed us with history to believe that we were slaves. Slaves being dumb individuals who could not read, write or perform arithmetic. Doesnt this have an effect on our subconscious? Im sure it does.

Why is ignorance popularized? We celebrate ignorance. Every Monday we see Love & HipHopas the no. 1 trending topic on Twitter. Then we complain when the media portrays us as monolithic ignorant animals. Thats partly our fault because we support it.

I dont want to be black anymore..

Another sad thing is, we re-hash the same experiences of black struggle and enslavement. Its as if we enjoy being victims. It has come to a point that today, in 2016, writing about our struggle is the equivalent to fighting it. The most popular influencers in the black community are those who are masterfully articulate in surfacing our struggle. By being in the struggle, dont we already know that were struggling? I dont think we need another reminder. Being black is enough.

I dont want to be black anymore..

Ive seen people complain about the lack of black spaces. That is truly a first world problem. Do you know how privileged one must be to complain about space? Some people dont have anything to eat or a place to live. Many of these people are children. Black children, in America. And were worried about space? The other day I published an article that showed how Ugandan women are mistreated by Saudi Arabians when they are hired as maids. Many are abused, raped, tortured and even killed. You would think that #BlackLivesMatter would have a voice on that. They didnt. Because, black spaces.

I dont want to be black anymore..

The above paragraph is an example of extreme narcissism. Allow me to provide this excerpt from an article titled, Narcissists Who Cry: The Other Side of the Ego.

The deception of the ego is that the narcissist can hide behind misfortune and victimization in order to shame you into feeling and believing that they suffer more than you do. They will say that you dont care enough for them. They will make you feel that you have not done enough to help them. The ego wants attention, control, gain, and power over others by positioning itself as a poor and helpless victim. It does this; all the while it soaks up the attention and control over others. In the eyes of an extreme narcissist, their situation is always right and totally justified. Instead of taking responsibility for self and consequences, the extreme narcissist tries to make others feel responsible for their plight. Because extreme narcissists are incredibly adept at the game of manipulation, they will always find a way to turn the tables on you. They will try to make you responsible and feel guilty for not helping them or taking their side and cause.

Please take this excerpt above and juxtapose it over the actions of the LGBT & #BlackLivesMatter community and you will see how the wool has been pulled over many peoples eyes.

Because extreme narcissists are incredibly adept at the game of manipulation, they will always find a way to turn the tables on you. They will try to make you responsible and feel guilty for not helping them or taking their side and cause.

I dont want to be black anymore..

The very same people who scoff at so-called white supremacy are the very same ones who up hold it. Tom Ford, *****, Ralph Lauren, Nike, Coach, Louis Vuitton. These are all households names. Walmart, Chick-Fil-A, Starbucks & Popeyes. Isnt it crazy that Popeyes is white owned? Founded by Alvin Charles Al Copeland. Everything we love is white owned. We literally fund the so-called oppressor. Yet we say, we love to be black. How embarrassing..

I dont want to be black anymore..

We complain about the station FOX and how it is the voice for Republicans and racists. Yet, we support their programming via the TV show, Empire. Did you know that Empire was the highest earner of advertising dollars next to the NFL? And isnt this the same station that props upStacey Dash to enflame our emotions? And didnt FOX just buy the rights to the Nat Turner film, Birth of a Nation? FOX is literally purchasing, influencing and controlling the black mind.

I dont want to be black anymore..

Lets talk about the NFL and how black football players put their lives at risk of brain damage and bodily harm, all in the name of entertainment. Most notably, the running backs who almost always have a short career from all the collisions they face. While the QBs, a position dominated by whites, are protected, by linemen. And tend to have longer careers. And black men love it. Where are these owners when poverty strikes in the communities that surround their stadium? And what about the NCAA and their profiting off the backs of black athletes, who get penalized if they take a dime from ANYONE. Meanwhile, in the previous Taco Bell sponsored college football national title game, sponsorships ran between $14M and $16M with a 30-sec commercial costing more than $1M. For the win, Alabama coaches received an extra $1.1M. Guess what the players got? Chicken, from none other than Chick-Fil-A. During the 2014-15 school year, Alabamas football team brought in $97 million and its basketball team generated $12.8 million. Yet, we watch the games and support slavery in its modern form.

I dont want to be black anymore..

Bottle girls, bartenders and strippers are now the money making opportunities for black women. And to be honest, can you blame them? Look at the money they are making. The means justify the ends. The salaries for careers that reward a black womans intelligence cannot compete with those that pay for her body. You could say the same for white women, but they have no cakes, therefore no place in the black bar.

I dont want to be black anymore..

We are more than our bodies. We do have minds. We need to start using them more than our bodies. Our so-called oppressor is using their minds to control our bodies. We need to become intelligent beings. We need to think books before TV. Knowledge before sports. Ownership before consumership. You want to know how we overcome oppression? That is how. By becoming MINDS before BODIES. We need more investors, teachers, bankers but most of all THINKERS!

I dont want to be black anymore, because what it is associated with is downright embarrassing and the whole does NOT represent me one iota. I just want to be GREAT!

Kendrick Lamar?

I don't know what you think that...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hRK7PVJFbS8

Note the phucking (approx) 5 year old kid trying to act tough like the males in the video, and that fact that Kendrick chose him to stand there with a scowl on his face showing 'westside' handsigns (that came from gang culture).

IMO that kid needs to be phuckin smiling and playing, being a kid, not trying to emulate 20 something year old gang bangers.

"My bitches I like em brown, just like my drink, the phuck you think?" - Kendrick Lamar, the recipe.

'My bitches'.

Nothing positive about that reference to women. He's not even talking about women he doesn't like, he's talking about women he likes. Exactly the habitual abusive language that Lenon Honor points out.

J Cole...

He even talks in a song about his mother objecting to him talking like he's from the ghetto, when he's college educated.

Here is a track called...

'lil ghetto nikka'...

You were the one who brought up J Cole, andeven J Cole agrees with what I'm saying.

I hope you don't ignore the lyrics that I quoted, and the sentence that I just wrote.

Art imitates life. What do you want these guys to rap about? They're lives were about struggle, drugs, gangs pursuit of a better life out the trap. Their music reflects that. Like a writer writes about his life experiences, rappers will rap about theirs.

And to be clear, while a larger % of black people relative to their population listen to the music, the greatest consumer of rap/hip-hop by volume is by far white people
