I experienced the link recently. My stomach issues flared up, and everytime I would have a bout of stomach pain, or discomfort I my mood would noticeably drop, and I would have a lot negative thoughts (I suffered from depression from 17 to 22, and it was the same mindset). Then after the pains or discomfort passed, I would go back to my general optimistic mood.

From this experience I realised first hand that the 'gut-brain' connection was real, and after listening to Dr Rhonda Patrick, I realised that inflammation in my stomach was probably the culprit.
What.

I understand but you can also beat that feeling by joining a social club, etc. you don't necessarily need drugs.

That's not your point. You were discussing what triggers depression as was the topic of my responses. If you wish to digress and delve into how to properly treat depression we can do so also. As I stated earlier, I feel that the most effective and successful treatment is physical health accomplished by focusing on diet and maintaining a regime of at least an hour of vigorous exercise per day. But that's for young, physically capable men. I'm not an expert but I probably wouldn't treat an elderly the same as someone my own age.

I'm not in favor of treating most cases of depression with medication. As stated previously:

It was my understanding that you feel that depression is a mental illness that can be cured through medication and that you validate all forms of depression as the same. Where as I feel only some forms of depression are legitimate and others aren't. The link I posted talks about how someone with bipolar and how she coped with her mental illness and the thing that helped her the most weren't the meds but the fact that she had someone she had stable foster parents and some stability in her life.

Which seems fraught with ignorance and anecdotal evidence so I suggested studying neurochemistry because:

So we came to agreement that in most cases medication is not the answer. It's ineffective and sometimes does more harm than good. Where we disagree is when emotional strain manifests itself as clinical depression and what may trigger that depression. It doesn't have to be a life event such as disease or death. It can come out of nowhere as a result of a neurochemical imbalance. These people don't need to simply grow a pair. They need treatment. It can happen to anyone, be they white, black, man, woman, rich or poor. Did Kurt Cobain need to just grow a pair? Maybe Robin Williams too?

Show me where I said that a chemical imbalance is always the cause of depression. That assertion is contradicted in the post where I state that depression can be caused by a feeling of lack of purpose when onset by retirement, a life event.

Look, I think I've given you more than enough courtesy at this point by responding to your posts and answering your questions but at this point it feels that you're trying to argue for the sake of arguing.

I'll bet in a culture where not only would it be acceptable to be a macho alpha male but it would be celebrated that there were be far fewer betas having problems they need to cry about.

as someone who was depressed from 14-19 i can confirm the difference your diet makes.

From 14-19 i ate like ****, processed foods, tons of sugar etc etc, ballooned to 230 and was depressed AF, some days i couldnt even get out of bed, all i wanted to do was lay there and TBH i did think of ending it there and the only reason i didnt was cause i love my parents and wouldnt wanna put them through it

One day, i decided i wasnt gonna take that **** anymore and decided to lose weight, and realized the best way to do that was to eliminate all processed foods and stay in a deficit. I started to feel better and better everyday and slowly came out of my depression.

Since then ive read a few studies that link high fructose corn syrup with depression due to its decreased absorption by the body, leading to fructose staying in the body, and reacting with tryptophan, an amino acid that is important in creating serotonin in the body, AKA the happy hormone. Less tryp, less happy.

Obviously diet isnt the cause of ALL depression but i feel that simply changing your diet could prevent and cure numerous cases of depression without meds, and adding in physical activity could help as well. Estrogen levels also play a role, and thats why high test is important.

People will change their diet to avoid cancer (avoid processed meats and red meat) but wont do it to avoid depression and that confuses me. At the very worst you try it out, realize you still have depression and get more help after eating healthy and exercising for a month and becoming even the slightest bit healthier.

call it broscience but as someone who has been there and done that, there has to at least be some connection, and maybe when i get a bit more educated ill undergo my own study and report back

cliffs of post; if depressed avoid high fructose corn syrup and exercise and report back in a month

Because men are not suppose to be emotional, weak, talk about their problems etc. I at one point in my life was legit feeling depressed, borderline suicidal (had a string of events that happened in a short period of time) and I talked to an ex-gf about it. At first she tried to help me, but then saw it as an opportunity to take advantage, tried to get me to buy here a plane ticket to go on a vacation. WtF...luckily I got way better and have never felt that down again, but it made me realize that men just can't talk about that kind of stuff w/o being mocked, looked down on, used etc.

The sexes were never unequal. This is the ruse played by feminism that reaffirms the cosmic dance of our species over millions of years.

I'm pretty tired right now but that feels about right to me.
thread should have stopped at this post, this is exactly the 'why' behind it. reps brah

Why does no one ever talk about male mental health?

Because no one would listen anyway.

It's a national disgrace. Nobody wants to talk about mental health, and nobody who wants to talk about mental health wants to talk about male suicide. It's pushed into the background along with the other unavoidable nightmares of society, present and regrettable but otherwise inescapable.

Socialisation is a very important part of gender roles - it's just far from the only or even the most important thing, which is where SJWs get it all very wrong. But fact is men, both by nature and nurture, keep their feelings hidden and fail to reach out for help, as well as having social circles which drop off as they age. It's a very puzzling observation with no clear answer yet, but women are actually better at maintaining supportive peer groups throughout life. Men fail as providers or fall victim to depression or other mental illnesses, and live grim, marginal existences alone until they take their own lives.

this grow a pair attitude is the driving force behind these ridiculously high suicidal rates in society today.
@JD805 who the **** are you to say whether or not someone has a legitimate reason to be depressed. Holy fuark the ridiculous ignorance in this thread is making me angry, can't believe IDIOTS still think in this way.
i'm out.
