Retirement with friends and hobbies is friggin awesome. I can't imagine being retired with literally nothing to do, I'd rather be working.
Eat in a deficit to lose weight.
Hit your protein and fat minimums to stay healthy and keep your gainz.
Lift heavy and do HIIT to look and feel awesome.
Use the internet to learn why you should do these things and how to do these things.

Good thread OP.

For me personally, I’ve paid my student debt off and mostly work because I enjoy it. I’m blessed to have a job that I love so it really doesn’t feel like working at all. Honestly, I don’t ever see myself retiring unless I am physically unable to do the job. Being debt free means I’m not forced to work for the bills. I just work as much as i want to.

Other than work, I enjoy fitness and family. I spend a lot of time with the family and take care of my health. Once COVID is in the past, I have a lot of other interests that I am going to pursue.

Definitely not a hoax. We live in a Capitalism based country, anybody can make it, sky is the limit. So it's purely your fault and you fault only if you can't retire when you want.

Younger generations are so fcked. Wanting a normal typcial middle class life is now getting harder than ever for the average western person. I'm also leaving out other metrics like the massive student debt some carry.

So cliffs:

- more productive jobs (aka more stress)
- stagnating wages
- no more life long guaranteed jobs with benefits like pensions, etc
- globalism making you compete with workers around the world
- rising housing prices
- basic living costs higher than ever
- unstable longterm job outlooks
- ...
All this is cope yet again. Go to Russia, China, or North Korea if you want to know what real struggling looks like. Truth is most of you don't work hard enough and want handouts. If you want retirement, go get it. There's practically nothing stopping you

People live paycheck to paycheck, double their income and then live paycheck to paycheck.

Its not definitely not easy for everyone but I know way too many people that are kind of dumb but still worked their way up to an early retirement.

No one seems to listen to me, but if you're very serious about retirement the fastest route would be buying a house with cheap property taxes and paying it off. Keep your COL below $1k and you don't really need to work all that much

Knew of this one girl's brother who was one of those super frugal (cheap ass) guys that was just all about saving money for retirement. For me at least its not about retirement. There's a constant fear that you could be unemployable well before you intend to retire. Like how manufacturing used to be a good career until it got shipped overseas. I.T. used to be a good career until we started importing visa workers. Same thing could happen to me in my 50s, 40s or even 30s.

If I knew for certain I could maintain my income till I was 65 I would be spending a lot more money today.

So I feel like I need to save as aggressively as possible because the government and business may collude together to put me in poverty.

Americans are also retiring in South America. Cheap cost of living, beaches, cheap booze, and nice women. If life is rough and you can't retire by 50, South America should definitely be in the books

My dad planned for his retirement, took the slow and steady investment route and worked hard at his job (to be fair, he loved his career), only to die of cancer at the age of 57.

That moment changed my entire worldview and I haven't taken a job or the concept of retirement seriously since.
